Drew Blogs posted on X he went to the CSU dual yesterday and was setting up for pre-match interviews with some coaches and wrestler when a SID came up and informed him no. Media can interview wrestlers or coach’s on campus.

That is crazy these boys will be looking for spots some where and are being blocked by Administration.

CSU can't ban "the media" from campus, that's literally unconstitutional at a public university.  I suppose they can threaten to revoke schollies though or threaten to withhold future information to media. In any case making threats, even empty ones, is a dick move.

That is exactly what he said on X.  Sounds like he stated they could not do it and first amendment violation.

Either way it was a low class move by administration.

Tom Ryan made sure to call out Cleveland State during the OSU / MICH dual. "We gotta save Cleveland State wrestling". Glad he's being vocal!

Tom Ryan is wrong. CSU doesn't deserve a wrestling program, and soon they won't have one.  My condolences to the kids who accepted scholarships to wrestle for such a rotten school.

Also pretty standard in countries with free speech.

What’s stopping them from doing the interviews? What are they gonna do, cut the program?

Most cut programs at least honor their scholarships through an athletes graduation.  While CSU isn’t giving out 100% scholarships the % they do give likely means something to athletes that may not be sure of their athletics future.

I’m definitely no lawyer, but taking away scholarship money for talking to the media during competitions could lead to some lawsuits, and I’m guessing CSU would lose.

Yes but most college kids can’t afford to take that chance considering the court case will likely be tied up for a few years and they only have a limited amount of finances to graduate and move on with their lives.

I believe that last time, JB was instrumental in bringing the program back by humiliating the CSU admins that tried to drop the program. So I get why they don't want anybody asking questions.

The real question is whether we as a wrestling community are willing to fight to save this program.  This isn't BU. CSU is a public university in a state with one of the largest fanbases of wrestling, where one of the most powerful political figures is a former NCAA champion. At this point, the Title IX excuse is gone, and it all comes down to $$$.  Can wrestling fans in Ohio convince the state that this is a program worth keeping?
