Oklahoma State obviously benefited greatly from their transfers. I doubt they'd even be top 10 without Hamiti, Fish, and Hendrickson, but guys who transferred to Iowa are even better (Parco, Teemer, Buchanon).

I guess Cal State Bakersfield probably benefited more than anybody getting AJ Ferrari. Just one guy but they had squaduche before so he's a huge bump.

I still am one that looks at transfers in two different lights.  Teams gaining Grad transfers vs. teams getting portal under-grad transfers.  Since Grad-transfers have been around for ages, I don’t look at that as a change that would be any different than usual. As opposed to  under-grad portal transfers that are now having a new impact on some programs quick moving up or down as a dual team or in NCAA AAs.   So to throw a side bar into your original question I’d say what teams are being effected most from those  under-grad portal transfer.

Are we talking just this year or historically?

Oklahoma State and Iowa have probably benefited the most this year. Historically I'd say Iowa and probably Penn State. And for the record I don't see anything wrong with using the portal to build a strong lineup. It's part of the recruiting game now. The same goes for NIL.

Have lost track at this point.  I thought Michigan was the Portal Gold Standard for a few years

Bakersfield also got 9house but he is doing bad this year.

PSU - Kerk, Mesenbrink

Minnesota - Flynn, Askey, Whiting

Lock Haven - Noto, Henson

Northern Colorado - Poulin, Serrano, Ulrey

South Dakota State - Tagg, Rhodes, Glazier, Siebrecht

Lehigh - Beard, Trephan

Little Rock - Williams, Delsignore

Utah Valley - Barraclaugh

Oklahoma - Sax, Belton, Lorenzo, Schwartz

Proof that it’s not just the big schools benefitting

I'm just asking about this season.

I also think the real sweat spot of taking advantage of the new portal system is a teams ability to get Sophomores-Seniors.     As I mention before Grad transfers have been a thing forever so I call that statistic a wash.  And there’s a pretty standard history of Redshirt Freshman or even regular Freshman requests on a transfer due to not liking the program after reaching campus or not feeling they will get into the lineup quick enough due to tough upperclass competition.  Get those Sophomores-Seniors that could have remained at their current school seems to be the portals sweet spot for changing a teams dynamic.

Kerkvliet has been at PSU his entire college career.

They got Heindselman from OU at HWT now. Huge step down from UM's usual heavies. He'll score 2 or 3 points at NCAAs.

I thought of them and forgot to mention them. So yes, Michigan has definitely benefited greatly. They managed a runner-up finish at NCAAs with their portal team.

Good point about grad students.

For the record I don't have a problem with the transfer portal.  Guys aren't slaves to programs and signing a letter of intent shouldn't  mean they are signing their lives away to potential tyrant coaches.

Be interesting to see what % of the starting line up are portal transfers for the Top 20 teams.  I’m not digging into  that research/math but if you want to be my guest.

Cardenas and Saldate are their big ones this year.  I forgot them on my list.

They have actually lost a few as well: McHenry, Amine, Lamer

Kerk never wrestled a single match at OSU. Does it really count if the guy never actually wrestled any matches before transferring?

That article would be heartbreaking from a Buckeye perspective, missing out on a soon to be 5 time AA and 3 time finalist in favor of Chase Singletary, who never made it to NCAAs again after his R16 season. I bet Rom Ryan still kicks himself in the butt every day.

This one always causes debates.

Just wanted to say that it’s kinda weird and a little sad that someone here is so distressed by the postings of the real Jimmy Cinnabon that they would create this look alike account.

How do you know I didn't create this one first, Fred?

Yes it counts.  He was enrolled at Ohio State and transferred via the transfer portal

It wasn't about choosing Singletary over Kerk. Kerk quickly left tOSU and redirected to PSU for personal goal reasons which happened to include following Snyder. Singletary was never involved in the equation as far as Tom Ryan was concerned other than "we have a solid backup / backup plan if Kerk gets hurt or leaves."

The question was which team benefited most from the transfer portal.  Kerk used the transfer portal.  PSU benefited.  This seems like it would be on topic to me.

Then clearly the biggest beneficiary of transfers is easily PSU if you go back far enough. They have 2 straight up NCAA champs that I know about that transferred in: MM and Kerk.
