First one in a tournament counts as an official loss (and by extension head to head seeding criteria) now right?

Unless the previous match was a default (by same wrestler)

Okay, I am still confused.   On OSU/Iowa BTN broadcast they list Gabe Arnold as undefeated but he MFF out of SS?

Wrestlestat list his as undefeated but also shows the loss to Ferrari.

I know it won't matter, but shouldn't he have 1 loss on the year?

Matches against teammates do not count in official records

Let's just use Cory Land at CKLV as an example. He lost to Knox via injury, so he isn't further penalized for his MFF loss to Witcraft. Whether you are injured or choose to MFF you will only accrue one loss. But I believe you are correct about the seeding criteria.

This made me curious about Starocci last year. He stepped on the mat to injury default twice at B10s which is why he took two losses on his record. I'm curious why he needed to step on the mat the second time rather than MFF. Obviously there must be a reason?

To be eligible for an at-large spot a wrestler has to participate in at least two matches at their conference tournament (this was new last year). Stepping on the mat and taking the injury default counts as participating. It also means that both count as losses. This is intentional so that a wrestler cannot MFF their way to a pre-allocated spot while only taking a single lose.

Ah that makes sense. I was curious why it was different at conferences than during the regular season, but that does make sense.
