For civilian workers. Let your friends and family know.

I want to see REAL cuts to the budget and you can't do that without going after social security, Medicare and our fat bloated military spending. Cut all 3 of these including raising the retirement age.

DOGE (going after federal workers) is a joke and a red herring unless they address these. We're being lied to.

The goal is not simply to save the money spent on salaries, but to also save the money that these employees spend.  Agency programs are to be eliminated and the personnel operating them.  Social Security should definitely be up for reform.  For one plan, click on the photo below and read Sen. Mike Lee’s proposal.

It’s almost there is another thread to complain about this somewhere.  Anyone know where?

Most of what they spend is still on social securility, medicare and military. The main agencies under attack are drops in the overall bucket, even when u count what they spend.

When was the last time you heard about the SS lockbox?   Not dumb.   It was never intended to be part of the normal budgeting process until someone decided to raid all the funds in the SS "lockbox".   Now the lock box is full of IOUs.   That's it.

Welcome to the real world, where nothing exists in a vacuum. SS is part of the fed budget, bottom line. Personally, I think our fat bloated military spending should be separated out.

SS spending is rising fast. Why? We're all living longer but the SS age hasn't changed since 1960. Ridiculous.

If u really want to cut the fed budget, this is a VERY ez and simple way to do it, and do it by a lot. WAY more than attacking fed workers.

Why in the world raise retirement age?  Does anyone want to have some balance before they go?  We are already putting twice as many years into the workforce as we are enjoying it after.

But Al Gore wouldn't like to me would he?

Of course he did.   I've been in the real world.   SS was not supposed to be part of the budget, but it became so when people in Congress decided there was too much money there and they needed it more.   When does this happen in the private sphere and it is not punished by prison.

You continue to deflect. First, it wasn't technically illegal. 2nd, both parties supported this. 3rd, we still have this problem, regardless of who caused it. We need to deal w it. Let's make REAL cuts to the budget instead of this small time bs that really fixes nothing whatsoever except scoring political points for the idiots.

How should cuts to SS and medicare go RV?

mspart

Are u serious? It's very simple. You raise the eligibility age and/or cut benefits. Those are the only options if u don't increase the respective taxes (which is better imo but political suicide as we continue to drift off the deep end to the rt).

U could also save a lot of money by elimating the fat insurance company profits but that's also impossible since they own the politicians and that's associated w "socalism."

Raise the age to what?    Cut benefits how?   Do both?  One or other?

That's arbitrary. One or both, enough to make the fund solvent long term. This is a very simple concept. MUCH simpler and more effective than trying to make a sand grain sized dent (at best) by going after federal workers.

Perdonally, id raise ss taxes but thats politicsl suicide so, if not, I'd then start by raising the full benefit age from 67 to 69 and see what that does to the fund.

If it still isn't solvent then decrease the benefits.

However, there is an infinite # of ways with combinations of degrees with which to accomplish this.

@mspart this is correct.

So you don't have a concrete proposal, you just want to do something.  There are infinite ways to do things, but I thought you had an idea of what to do .  Try this and see what it does?   Does not sound like a solid approach, especially since there are analysts that can do this with out having to go the hunt and peck method.

You're simply being obtuse. There are math gurus or actuaries that can do the calculations. I don't have hours to do that. I provided something to start with. Raise the eligibility age first and see if there's still more to do.

This is a VERY simple and sound concept. Fund is not solvent.

Simple and sound.  We the gov are not accountable and took your $$$$ so you need to work longer.  That went over well in Western Europe no?

how about there is accountability for spending tax dollars on crapola before you make it the workers fault.

Another deflection. Yes, our govt sucks and screwed this up. So should we keep this bs going or cut it out right now?

Fix it in other ways.  Divert all bs spending…. Illegals.  Grand ol trans research.  The free liquor in congress etc.  Let doge uncover stuff before you respond for the 483848484848th time it won’t be enough.
