Pretty crazy scramble starts around 10:15.  Davis shoots and comes close to a TD of his own, but then Waterman comes close to a danger TD, and then a regular TD right afterwards.

Not nearly as egregious as the Kilkeary match last year, but I kinda think he was taken down there.

edit: worth noting that Davis did appear to tweak his knee early in the match which could have impacted him

Ironically, when I watched that, I was wondering why they weren't giving the danger count to Waterman, i.e., 3 for Davis. Looked pretty clear to me that Davis had him beyond 90 degrees for a while and the ref didn't bother swiping. Really weird exchange.

I had that thought for a second also, although it was hard to tell from the camera angle.  But I’m skeptical since even though the ref was on the wrong side at first, when he got to the other side the position hadn’t really changed IMO and he did not count danger.

Close calls either way but keep one thing in mind. When you are counting for a danger takedown, you don't start counting the instant the other guy goes to his back. You give it 2-3 seconds to be sure he's being held there.

IMO, it was a “regular takedown” after the danger situation(s).   Right before Drexel threw the brick.

The match being competitive is probably the biggest cause for concern to me. First match of the year at a new weight so can't take a ton away from it but between this and his US open showing I wonder if he's not going to be as prolific at 133 as he was 125.

Was he a beneficiary of a size advantage that came with a massive weight cut to 125?  It seems he was able to handle the ill-effects of the cut, until nationals.

Now at 133, he may not be able to use his size/length as effectively?

I think he will be fine in the long run.

I would put that more on the apparent injury most likely.

He had a great year for a true freshman, but he wasn’t exactly “prolific” last year IMO.  He should’ve lost to Kilkeary, and a lot of his wins were very close including 2 SV wins en route to his B10 title.

I’d be very surprised to see him place top 5 at 133, but he could certainly AA.

Sure it was close but called correctly.  From the video angle, it seemed Waterman might of had a TD after the neutral danger but its clear Davis had his leg and then pops up with it.

I also thought the score was deceiving.  It was 2-0 takedown match.  The reversal made it seem closer and iWaterman was close to stealing it if he would came out on top in the last scramble but I don't think any PSU should be worried about Davis based on that match.
