...per Trump. I've changed my mind and im voting for him. This is a big problem and I think he can fix it since he has the guts to talk about it. Hoping he can fix it so they're born in the 7th or 8th months.

Do you live in a swing state?

You can poke fun at Trump...

And you can downplay with cherry picked statistics...

But the hard numbers are there...

Elective abortion does occur after the baby life is feasible...

More late terms elective abortions occur than kids killed in school shootings...

No matter what Kamala claims about Trump banning abortion...

He will not...

It is amazing that very bright Americans are picking Trump...

Why would that be true...

Another  bs right wing deflection. Late term abortions are very rare and in almost all of those cases, the woman's life was at risk or fetus was already dead. . Despite being incredibly rare, the wingers constantly talk about late term abortions where the fetus is actually still alive and woman's life is not at risk.

Almost rare, considering.

U should look at the actual circumstances when this happens. I've never heard of a normal pregnancy terminated after 30 weeks.

I do. I already voted 3 times using dead relatives.

I tried that but one of those trump observers at the polling place busted me.

I’m against a lot more than just late term abortions.  I’m also against putting puppies in burlap sacks and throwing them in the river.

The factual comment highlights inconsistencies in how society prioritizes the protection of children.  If protecting child lives is a strong reason for gun control, then the high number of abortions logically deserve greater focus.

FACTS

Guttmacher.org research indicates 9 STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA DO NOT RESTRICT ABORTION BASED ON GESTATIONAL DURATION.

While its rare (~1%) to have later abortions, it is legal and does occur annually (~10K instances) for mostly the same reasons as the first trimester (e.g. elective) per this fact check by the Washington Post (see also: congressional research).  Most women seeking later abortion fit at least one of five profiles:

  • They were raising children alone
  • They were depressed or using illicit substances
  • They were in conflict with a male partner or experiencing domestic violence
  • They had trouble deciding and then had access problems (location and finance)
  • They were young and nulliparous.

Florida and Utah provide women’s reasons for having an abortion by gestational time periods in their annual state abortion reports.

The table below (source) for Utah in 2021 shows that 56% (9 out of 16) reported reasons for abortions past 21 weeks are for economic reasons (e.g. elective).  Note that ** means 5 or fewer in the chart.

Florida doesn’t separate abortion reasons specifically for cases over ~20 weeks; instead, it groups the entire second trimester (13-26 weeks) with the following breakdown:

  • Elective: 85%
  • Baby’s health: 10%
  • Mother, non-life-threatening issues (physical/emotional): 4.2%
  • Mother’s physical life at risk: 0.4%
  • Rape/incest: 0.4%

Doctors like Warren Hern, described by The Atlantic as an “abortion absolutist,” hold strong views on abortion. According to Hern:

  • A fetus remains a fetus until it is “born alive.”
  • In Hern’s view, a woman’s life, humanity, and wishes outweigh the fetus’s, often to the point of being the only consideration.
  • Hern once shared that a patient sought an abortion solely because she didn’t want a girl; he did not refuse her request.

When asked what he would do if a healthy woman sought an abortion at 30 weeks, Hern’s response underscored his stance: “Every pregnancy is a health issue. There’s a certifiable risk of death from being pregnant, period.”
