Cutting from 9 to 3 scholarships, but the worst part of all is:

They will not allow any wrestler that is on scholarship to compete.

In essence going from 9 to zero scholarships for their actual wrestlers.

I don't understand how they can justify this part. Obviously we disagree with all of it. But the cutting from 9 to 3 scholarships, the admin can "justify" by saying they need to save money for other sports etc.

But the other part. How can that be justified to anyone with a brain?

Totally agree. Campbell needs to get an attorney and get really aggressive with the admin. We are dealing with bureaucratic scum in the admin layer of athletic departments and they are not very smart, on average. This is the rule of thumb at athletic departments across all D1 universities. A lot of University of Phoenix online MBAs and devry grads. Get a lawyer or 5, threaten to sue for breach of contract, and you'll see a reversal of this terrible decision.

For a long time, wrestling has taken the approach of begging to not be cut after a decision like this. Emails, calling campaigns and twitter posting won't get it done.

NILs and major conference shake ups have left wrestling in the most endangered position we've been in the 20 years or more. Sadly, I expect to see a lot more of this.

As of this year, NCAA DI rules do not allow the reduction of a scholarship unless the athlete quits, becomes ineligible, or enters the transfer portal (there are some other exceptions, but those are the big ones). Holding scholarship athletes out of competition is an unfortunate way of encouraging them into the portal and removing the obligation to keep them on scholarship.

This is really disheartening to see for a program that has really elevated itself from losing to club teams 15 years ago, to now producing All-Americans and beating Big 10 teams. I hope the community can come together to save the program, or better yet the AD figures it out.

I talked to Alex Tirapelle about the Stanford situation just a short time ago. He is still emotional about what happened. I would suggest that Campbell coaches and the person leading the alumni charge against this disaster contact him where he is coaching now: American University. Not only is he whip smart, but he's also been through this particular situation.

Yes, I know that the endowments are different and there is likely no Shane Griffith at Campbell right now, but there was more to that in saving Cardinal wrestling.
