Congrats on the team title. It was unofficially locked up Saturday so dreading having to wait three days for it confirmed was miserable.

They already said he is coming back at 97. Not sure what will happen. I assume he can only get worse as a wrestler from here due to his age and injuries.

Firouzpour and him have never wrestled.

Valencia was a buzzsaw. I was super impressed with him. I think he was just an inconsistent guy who always had great athleticism and ability. It would be hard for any coach to stop a guy in that form. On paper Ghasempour was/is better but i'm not sure any coach would have reversed that. Especially if part of it was weight cut related.

That is my point.  David Taylor, the coach, managed to turn an athletic guy who was a second rate wrestler into an unbeatable wrestler.  We need coaches who can do that.  That is not Dorstkar

Ok, and David Taylor's heavyweight was completely terrible and went for a head pinch at 125kg which got him teched against a guy he had beat before. I don't think it's fair to put it all on 86. Azapira has wrestled two matches this entire year and is in the final.

Man, that win by Hidlay is one of the best comebacks I have ever seen.  Firouzpour vs Hidlay will be fun

Fair enough, we see it differently.

I still would love to See Dabir and Dorostkar removed, and see a new regime.  I know it's not very likely

If 97 then he has to beat azarpira at the trials which is a great test to see how he can transfer to 97

I see it go down similar to Taylor vs yazdani.

Firouzpour style is very annoying to wrestle against for a lot of wrestlers . but hidlay can counter the underhooks and actually gets takedowns.

Bad matchup for firouzpour.

Kyle vs azarpira is 50/50 match

Kiyooka has the edge over amouzad though. He's defensively wound and doesn't seem to gass unlike amouzad who put pressure and fade the last two minutes.

Last few meetings have not been particularly competitive outside of the actual score imo. I don't think Kyle can let Azarpira in like he allowed Yoshida. My perception on it despite Azarpira beating Taz is probably that it's closer than I thought going in, but I would still probably have it like 70:30 Azarpira.

In DT's defense for Wyatt, Wyatt was probably third or fourth on the American ladder before he went to Stillwater. Now a lot of the guys ahead of him did not compete this year but he beat two guys in folk that were clearly ahead of him before going to Stillwater.

I think Firouzpour and Trent were the best guys at 92kg. Magomedov probably does not replicate that success against either guy now that they have a feel for him. His chest wrap is incredible, reminds me a lot of dake but I think both guys know they can probably just hand fight with him and get him tired and then execute later on.

Recall that Hidlay and Yazdani wrestled barely over a year ago, here. Going into that match, I was pretty high on Hidlay, and I was posting here saying that Hidlay would give him a competitive match.  I still say it was more competitive than most thought it would be.... but the score didn't really bear out my prediction.

Man, you guys just ran away with the world title, and it isn't particularly close.... and you're calling for the coach's head?  Tough crowd!  :]

I agree they should get rid of him

Of course no one was giving Azarpira a chance to beat Tazhudinov. So that was great outcome for Iran.

I would have thought even if the coaches jobs were on the line( which they were not) securing the world title with 8 medals and the icing on the cake of Azapira winning today against a guy who everyone without exception a day ago was saying to be unbeatable has neutralised effectively any talk of coaching changes.

It depends on how many golds we end up with.  One gold does not cut it for me, two golds is OK, three golds would be great.  I think our coaching lost two us golds in 79, 86 and 92.  If they end up with golds in 65 and 97, let's talk

It all comes down to expectations.  Below is my personal assessment

57 - DNP as expected no positive or negative impact on the coaches

61- Exceeded expectations, positive point for the coaches

65 - If Amouzad wins, positive if not no impact

70 - DNP, Disaster, negative for the coaches

74 - 5th as expected no impact

79 - bronze, negative for the coaches

86 - bronze, major negative to the coaches

92 - bronze, negative for the coaches

97 - silver or gold, if silver, no impact, if gold, positive for the coaches

125 - Automatic gold, no impact on the coaches

If i was voting, if we get two golds tomorrow, great job coaches

If we get one gold, they keep their jobs

if we get two silvers, fire them, Call Trump and see if we can trade Dorostkar and Dabir for DT.  Given Trump's expertise in Art of the Deal, it just might work 🙂

I really enjoyed watching that.  he uses the same Bulldoze approach that DT and Yazdani too.

How has he done against Valencia?  Would love to see a video of those matches

Valencia has never lost to Hidlay in any style and they have wrestled many, many times.

The closest was this last spring, where Valencia 'only' beat him 4-2.

The expectation in Iran at least for Firouzpour and Ghasempour was gold. The fact that American guys won rubs more salt in the wound especially in the absence of Yazdani and Ghasempour going down just to lose to Valencia. Every year the expectation is the team title and multiple gold medals especially since both the US and Russia are in a rebuild.

How much of that was due to the bracket though? If he was on the other side the best he could have gotten was bronze and if Ono and Vito were here he wouldn't be medalling. Him and Ahoura Khateri sort of had identical results they both navigated their way to the final only to get dominated by the number one guy in the field. Have we started to develop decent 61s or is it just a fluke result.

He won a close match at the last second against the North Korean.

I want to be fair to the people I am firing in case there is a law suit 😀
