I've seen some talk about Cornell having Joy moving up to '57 with Benny Rogers filling in at 49?

Thought?

As I discovered I might be a Cornell fan this year while discussing incoming freshman I would like to hear opinions on this as well…

IMO it really depends on what Joy's ideal weight is. I would say that, all-things-equal, Joy is probably around the 7th/8th guy on the totem pole at 157 where he is currently rightfully ranked #5 at 149.

I don't think he should hold 149 this year if it's a bad cut. He should wrestle his ideal weight and let the chips fall where they may.

I'll be honest though, I don't even know who Benny Rogers is.

I think Joy's NCAA tourney was an aberration.   He is as likely as anyone to win it at 157 - although 157 has quality and depth.

He’s one of my fav wrestlers. 157 just got more interesting.

Joy definitely has a big frame and as someone who grew a few inches freshman year of college its certainly possible, but I would be shocked if he grew 2-3 inches from 20 to 21 Cornells website lists him at 6'0 both last year and this year and I generally subtract at least an inch from all roster listings but if hes actually 6'2 I have no clue how he's making even 157. Wick is 6'2/6'3 and seemed to carry less tissue on his frame and he looked like absolute death at 165.

As to how I think he does, His top game is going to keep him in matches with most guys. I do not see him beating Landon I sort of have Landon in a tier of his own this year I think that kids mentally just built different and is only going to continue to get better. Of all of the performances this summer I think him beating khalili until the last 35 seconds is up there with one of the most impressive (I think Khalili could win gold at seniors). Joy should be in a match with just about anyone else there is a chance Antrell and Kasak move into the Landon tier and are much better than everyone else but I am waiting to see them this year before I make any proclamation about that.

(This turned into more of a 157 tiers post and I believe I heard he may be going 165 so it may not be relevant but I think Kannon webster may mess some people up this year, he had an incredible summer at 74kg.)

the way valencia came back on him....I honestly don't know if it was or not, when you watch it you can't believe he's gonna lose for most of it, and he doesn't just break...so you I guess you say no one was gonna beat valencia that weekend he wrestled that well....but hell even with fan mentality hat on Joy has to take some responsibility for it....obviously i don't know what to think.

 Ohio bias...🤫

in a related topic, this year kind of broke my pro-cornell bias, getting hard to cheer for(iowa file).....I don't have a fetish for bashing them like a certain team....

Thanks! You gotta just laugh at the international accounts. They like to talk trash but it makes things interesting

I don't think Joy's tournament was indicative of how good he is, but we're talking about a guy who lost to Buesgens, Valencia, and Gaj in the final month of the season. Those are very good opponents, but there is no chance that I am picking any of them to be a serious contender at 157 right now. I would argue that Joy has a much higher likelihood of failing to AA than to win an NCAA this season. I'm not saying he can't win it, but as likely as anyone is quite a stretch.

There is no way he is 6'2". Idk if Cornell Kev was having a little fun in that post, but Joy is long, but I certainly didn't think he was Wick long.
