I had heard Khateri's name before this tournament, but really knew nothing about him nor had I ever seen him wrestle. Whatever match it was where he was down 6-0 or 7-0, he looked pretty unreal as he stormed back to win 14-14. He was a fun watch. Quick to the legs and a great finisher in that match.

He was the guy who lost to blaze at worlds last year, and lost to Seidel first round at U20s. Showed a lot of grit and mat savvy here, he was down in 3 of his matches

USA had a terrible tournament and Iran looked incredible also shoutout Khateri I thought he looked so much healthier at 65 and is only going to get better as he grows into it but just going to list our guys that could have and should have gone

57kg: Luke was our best best I believe he is 21 now he may still be 20 but I fear he may be out growing the weight or he was sick not trying to make excuses but he just looked like a shell of himself. If he is outgrowing the weight I am pessimistic about 57 outside of the olympic year sounds like Jax and Ben may both be going down.

61kg: Davino was great but we could have also sent Seidel (20), Forrest (19), Blaze (19)

65kg: Bo was our guy (20) is Khateri 18? good grief

70kg: Robideau was our best guy (20) Khalili was irans but Elahi is a stud as well

74kg: Jayden was far and away our best guy (18)

79kg: Levi Haines was our best (22) I think Will Henckel or Matty singleton would have been our second best Will may be 20 still or 21 Singleton I believe is 21

86kg: I would send Aedon again but one could make a strong argument for Mcnelly I believe they are 20 and 21 respecitvely

92kg: Josh Barr (21)

97kg: Rademacher was our guy

125kg: Dreshaun ross (19)

Everyone has different wrestlers they could have sent but each team was chosen for a reason so you can’t look back and say actually we should have sent this guy instead

i was responding to the implication that the USA’s MFS team underperformed because they were young and inexperienced. That’s not true - Iran’s team was younger and 2 of our champs were under 20 years old while the US only sent one guy under 20 at all.

The US team were inexperienced relative to the U23 circuit. Apart from Lilledahl I don't think anyone else had competed at the U23 level prior to this tournament. In comparison Khari, Karampour, Azimi, Yousefi, Rahmani and Mohammadnezhad had all competed at this level at least once. That isn't to discredit our success we are the best in the world deservingly. Age isn't always correlated to experience.

I don't know how Khateri was making 61 he is quite lanky for 65 as well. I could so him filling out to 70/74 in 2-3 years time in all honesty. In saying that Blaze and Seidel are top wrestlers and are a really bad match up for him. I think if Basset was wrestling Khateri instead of Jaskaran he would've won gold.

The us team had a lot of guys who were sent because other guys turned it down. The weights where I said "this is our guy" were the weights where the guy earned the spot outright and did not get it by someone turning it down.

that is a silly metric. the US MFS team was very experienced and credentialed at the age level of international wrestling and 9/10 of them are over 20. Iran's team was significantly younger on average.

LL - 21, 2025 U23 world champion

Bo - 20, 2x U20 world medalist

Jordan Williams - 23

Sealey - 21, U17 world champion

Sinclair - 20, 2026 U20 world champion

Shumate - 23

Rademacher - 21, 2x U20 world medalist

this is hardly some mega young and inexperienced team, lol. you don't need to make excuses for them. they were competing on home soil.

Bassett's losses will hopefully be motivation and build match tactics wisdom. Better U23s than senior worlds if he has to take a tough loss and DNP.

This has aged better than a freshman Bo Basset 😎
