Maybe he's not Latino?

Or maybe not every ethnic family has to choose first names corresponding to their ethnic heritage?  I'd say the surname is a bit more telling.

For instance John Diakomihalis: Is he of Greek descent?  I don't know... his first name is John!

Tyler Ferrara

Mark Botello

David Ogunsanya

Jude Correa

Maybe Ryder Yoshitake isn't of Japanese descent!

Weird to question someone's ethnicity based oh their given name...

Sure, let's jump in. German.

Have you seen Fernando Mendoza?

Sometimes the name tells you more than the face or the first name.

He may have some world medals on his resume should he have chosen to represent Deutschland.

I'd say Ben Darmstadt (name of an actual German city) is a pretty good German wrestling name.

It is a fine German name... now do yourself a favor and translate "Dieringer", more specifically "die ringer."

Darmstadt is so cool, it doesn't need a translation.

I was thinking about how hard it would be to assemble a Dutch team and stumbled onto the etymology of Dekraker. Like Smith it stems from an occupation, more special the job of cracking / breaking bodies, ie an executioner.

Dekraker wins the best-wrestling-name contest.

Yeah, no. "Dieringer" is the best wrestling name.  Someone asked about Brazil....Nebraska has 2 on their roster who compete for Brazil internationally: Marco Christiansen and LJ Araujo.

Yeah he is.  Cesar Alvan (3rd last year at 165), too. Those two plus the Nebraska athletes all compete under the Brazilian flag in international competitions.  I had to confirm some of these because a lot of college wrestlers have BJJ careers, but obviously not every Latino/Latina wrestler who does jiujitsu is an actual Brazilian, LOL.
