the federal government is not permitted to "withhold investigative evidence for the purpose of shielding law enforcement officers from scrutiny where a State is investigating serious potential violations of its criminal laws, targeting its citizens, within its borders

So Madison is too liberal crazy for RV.   That's a revelation.

It looks like the mayor is tired of the autonomous zone.

Madison mayor seeks to end ‘autonomous zone’ started after police killed armed man

The mayor of Madison, Wisconsin, called for protesters to disband from an “autonomous zone” established at the site where police shot and killed a knife-wielding homeless man last month.

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said the city is preparing to tow vehicles that activists have used to block off the intersection at Williamson Street and Baldwin Street in protest of the police killing of 38-year-old Corey Durell Ruiz.

Authorities said officers shot and killed Ruiz, an ex-felon, while he was resisting arrest on July 22 in the state’s capital city. Madison Police Chief John Patterson said Ruiz pulled out a knife during the altercation and wounded an officer before police fired the fatal shots.

A guy pulls a knife on cops while in an altercation with them and the cops are supposed to you kufujitsu to deknife the guy?   At that point a cop has every reason to use his firearm in my opinion.

Sounds like the Madison PD is now obstructing justice by withholding evidence from the Madison Police Monitor.

Likely because there was at least some level of police misconduct and they know it.

He had just been tased and was literally laying on the ground when shot.

Probably not criminal because he can always play the "i was threatened" card but misconduct at a minimum.

Don’t pull a knife and attack police and you won’t get shot.

this will be a clean shoot

Criminally but he'll still get fired and mpd will get sued and will have to pay the victims family a hefty sum. 110% unnecessary and I still see zero evidence that he was stabbed like he claimed. They cant withhold the evidence from the police monitor forever.

Its a madison specific agency and associated ordinance. Get an independent set of eyes on police incidents because pds in general are corrupt and just wants to protect their own.

DCI/FBI are the independent investigators on this case.

You mean Wi doj? Only for purpose of criminal charges and they either charge or they dont. Thats it. Its good to go deeper than that though and give the people the answers they deserve

Ummm...I mean DCI/FBI, which falls under the WI DOJ and Attorney General. They are an independent entity and are trained to do very deep investigations when there is a death during police involved incidents. And they use their findings and present to the AG and that person decides if there are going to be any charges filed. AKA...there is no other entity that can "go deeper".

And let me guess... unless the cop is charged with murder you and your ilk will continue to go crazy/riot/etc.??  So maybe you and your drunk buddy GWN should sit this one out because you both are completely irrational.

Sounds like letting actual law enforcement investigate is the right answer lol

The Monitor cannot:

  • Arrest or charge anyone with a crime.
  • Fire, suspend, or discipline officers directly.
  • Override the Police Chief's decisions.
  • Direct the Wisconsin DOJ's criminal investigation.
  • Order the department to adopt its recommendations.

If the Monitor uncovers evidence suggesting criminal conduct that investigators have not considered, they could refer that information to the appropriate law enforcement agency or prosecutor. But they do not have independent prosecutorial authority.

Like I said, doj investigates for potential criminal charges. Theres a lot more reason to investigate than just that.

We already know hes playing the "but i felt threatened" card like they always do so he won't be charged.

Whether he was an incompetent p.o.s. is another matter and that's what they're there for
