FloWrestling Improvements

As suggested, we need a thread dedicated to our ideas on how to improve FloWrestling. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander...or whatever. 

Personally, I'd like to see less docs. The reason Marstellar was their crowning achievement is because they waited for a long term story. Not while they're in high school.

The docs aren't taking away from anything.  If you wanted something else instead that would make sense.  But just wanting less content is weird.

the docs got me (and friends who i showed them to) interested in wrestling content, so i have to say i immediately disagree

i'm not really sure what you mean, you said you wanted to see less docs? do you want them to be higher quality, or?

They need to do a better job of talking about a wider range of teams. Its all penn state, iowa, oklahoma state, and they make a whole dedicated 10 minute video if the smallest change happens to their lineup.

Less bombardment of click-baity articles; especially the ones that don't really go anywhere.  The College page was flooded with new articles in the lead up to NCAAs but most of it I would call junk; just regurgitating the same info w/ a different team in the title or be titled "Everything you need to know about the MAC tournament" and the article just says it starts on Friday or something like that

Lots of layout issues in my opinion, but number one that needs to be addressed is FloArena. Honestly inconvenient to find an event you are looking for, be it upcoming or in results. They need to organize that a whole lot better.

 

Other Functions

-Subscribe to a favorite college team/RTC. That way you get personalized articles rather than the bombardment that people have mentioned.

-List where events may be streamed with links even if it's not on Flo.

-Change their schedule page so you can search by competition level, rather than show every event upcoming (also, FRL should NOT be posted on their schedule page).

-Also limit the number of articles on the homepage being displayed. Otherwise we are all doom scrolling looking for something new.

I would like the brackets to have an option to be interactive in the sense if I am watching an event on replay - delayed I can have an option to have a bracket without any updates and as i watch i can update a bracket by round or by match as i watch the event. Or if i want to watch a match then i can click the match and watch it and then have the bracket update.

This! I rarely am able to watch live, but love the idea of not knowing the outcome of matches and the bracket prior to viewing. This would be a game changer for Flo in my opinion. Basically a bracket that uncovers itself as the user chooses it to happen.

I had envisioned them keeping the current setup for brackets that show results per usual, but also offering another path for users to choose a "hidden" bracket as an option. Just an idea as I've always thought that not knowing the outcome would be a more exciting way to view a match or tournament that couldn't be watched live by the user.

Going through their video library sucks. They need an easier way to navigate collegiate wrestling replays.

Also, they need to enable multiview on their streaming app like they have on their desktop version.

100% - Lots of good things happening at mid/lower level programs. Unfortunately a majority of fans fit into three programs right now.

Multiview on the app is a must. Slightly annoying to have to plug my laptop into a TV or constantly switch mats on my phone.

I'll agree here, though remove Oklahoma State from your list until two years ago

I actually would like less content, or at least better organization of their content. They're constantly pushing out new stuff, and it all gets the same priority/hierarchy treatment on their page. Lists, interviews, speculations, event schedules all fight for visibility on their page. This is fine for engaging with their page, but it makes it hard to engage with the sport they're covering. For example US Open is soon. I'd like to know when it is, how to watch, who's competing, and a general schedule of competition. I can find this information, but I have to open all their articles and read through them to find it; even then, the article I found linked me to several other articles. There should be a pinned article that just stays at the top of the home page or at least the International page with all this information, giving viewers easy access to the info they need.

This happens consistently with their coverage of wrestling events. I'll have 5 Flo tabs open to compile the most basic of information for engaging with the event as a moderately informed individual. 

I'll add that its not just them, modern web design has moved away from "we're connecting you to your hobby" and towards "we want to be your hobby". So they're in line with the competing-for-clicks game but it would be nice if we didn't all have to play that game to watch wrestling coverage.
