125 and 174 were decided solely on a stall call. Make these guys go get a takedown and earn it. Figures Penn State gets the call in their favor when neither of their guys did anything to earn it. But when you're the obvious team champ, you get these calls. These matches were the stinkers of the tourney, and don't bring in new fans. Fix this, NCAA.

Both stall calls were good. Force these guys to wrestle

Both calls decided the match. Neither PSU wrestler was getting after it for a takedown. If this was freestyle, they would've both been hit for passivity and evened up the match. Terrible way to decide a champion.

Both opponents are stall merchants who rarely initiate any of their own offense. They paid for it.

I do think Minto will realize this and become more active moving forward.

That's the Cowboy mentality that will keep you from ever surpassing PSU.

As much as Taylor tries to change that mentality, Okie State fans still think the best way to wrestle is to do as little as possible.

So it is here. The direct translation of your comment is that if a wrestler stalls to avoid being scored on, they deserve to win, not lose.  That says it all.

I agree Minto and McGowan gifted titles to their opponents by not making any effort to win.

Nice try.  He isn't an OSU fan.  But your obsession with the Pokes and your effort to attack their whole fanbase reveals a lot about the insecurity of whatever fanbase you represent.

Calling stalling is good and the sport generally needs more of it. However, when you compare those finals matches to the way stalling has been called most of the time, I don't feel like Luke and Levi did quite enough to earn those calls. The right guys won of course, but I think letting them go and get it in SV would have been preferred to what ultimately amounted to a referees decision

Offensive wrestling doesn't earn stalling.  Stalling isn't a reward earned by the offensive guy.  It is a penalty on the guy who refuses to engage and try to score points.  The ref wasn't rewarding Haines' offense.  He was penalizing Minto's lack of engagement.  Haines has nothing to do with it.  Sudden victory would have been awful and would have failed to penalize blatant stalling.

You understand that controlling center puts the other person on the clock in FS, right?

LL and Haines controlled center. MAM in particular just flat out refused to engage or do, well, anything.

Neither Haines or Luke did enough to justify getting the match gifted to them. Both should've went to overtime and let that decide it. Watching with friends who do and don't follow wrestling, they were like wtf kinda match was that? Nobody scored? I had no answers

You are fundamentally misunderstanding wrestling.  Stalling has nothing to do with what the offensive guy earned.  And believe it or not, the response of the crowd you watched with doesn't either.

Neither of those matches had any business going to overtime.

Freestyle ideology shouldn’t be applied to folkstyle

I'm not the one who brought up freestyle, am I? No.

It's strange that you're quoting me for correcting his incorrect notion, but not him for bringing it up in the first place. Why is that?

I'd argue that you'd be gifting Minto or McGowan a chance to steal the match in OT after refusing to wrestle for the first 7 minutes. Haines and Lilledahl were both in their face and ready to wrestle, but they decided to retreat and break ties for 7 minutes instead of engage. If you're going to waste 7 minutes of match time doing nothing, you don't deserve two more.

I am the defender of folkstyle rules.  I don’t care where the bad stimuli comes from. If it was not you I apologize.

Deciding titles on a referees call is a bad look for the sport. Make somebody earn it.

Neither PSU guy did anything worthy of a title. It's like an MMA title fight being decided by the ref based on who took more feints, but landing no punches. If I were them, I'd hide that title in my closet, cuz that wasn't earned, it was gifted.

It'll be fun watching you lose your composure more and more as Okie State transforms the sport. Those PSU glasses are getting foggy.
