The entry date (May 2nd) has come and gone for the transfer portal. Now, any additional entries will be tied to a coaching change or perhaps from a graduate student. One of the more interesting twists and turns from the portal this offseason came this weekend as the presence of 2025 All-American Sammy Alvarez was noted. All of my trusted contacts (and I) are unsure how Alvarez would have another year of eligibility and if he’s been granted one. I’m sure his 2025 WrestleStat Page has received a bunch of hits with people trying to make sense of his eligibility (or lack thereof). We’re about a month and a half removed from the eligibility saga of 2025 Pac-12 champion Tyler Brennan of Little Rock - so I’m sure coaches are very hesitant to approach the Alvarez situation unless their compliance and conference are 100% confident he’ll be eligible in 2025-26. The precedent I’ve referred to in this situation is Lehigh All-American Josh Humphreys. Humphreys was said to be out of eligibility, but entered the portal. Apparently the coaches/conferences/compliance officers agreed, as well, and Humphreys was unable to compete in 2023-24 (and beyond). Maybe that’s the case here - or maybe it’s a completely different situation and Alvarez will be deemed eligible to compete in 2025-26. It’s just another twist and turn in this new portal-era of college athletics. While entry into the portal may have stopped (for the most part) due to the May 2nd deadline, there still have been plenty of commitments from wrestlers already in the portal. Some notables include Dylan Fishback to Ohio State and 2025 SoCon champion Sergio Desiante to Virginia Tech. We’ve already written about Fishback individually and his addition to the Buckeye lineup. Desiante brings a seasoned veteran into a Hokie lineup that needed a replacement for 2024 All-American Lennox Wolak. The first list of wrestlers we’ve listed have already publicly committed to a new transfer destination. That new school is listed first, along with their projected weight, followed by their former school. Below them are notable wrestlers that have gone into the transfer portal. It is not a comprehensive list. Parker Keckeisen is the NC from UNI who is also an AWA guy (like KOT). They grew up together. The UNIC was a typo and should have been UNI for University of Northern Iowa.

The last two fights weren't great for Cejudo if those are the ones you're referring to. He got dominated by Merab Dvalishvili who is the current Bantamweight champ and to be fair, has a gas tank that makes Messenbrink look like he's standing still. His most recent fight was against Song Yadong and Cejudo was getting pieced up some but Yadong had more than a few eye pokes in that match. If you're looking for more 'peak' Cejudo check out his fights from about 2018-2020 before he retired/took off 3 years. If you're curious on the age front, Cejudo was 30 or 31 when he won the title.
