I know a guy that gets something similar to Jimmy via ESOP. There is definitely some luck involved beyond hard work and intelligence. This guy has partially retired at 41 and plans to fully retire at 45. His salary is nothing crazy but the ESOP is averaging 30% a year. Nobody wants to retire because they must sell out of private stock when they do. It is cool that when the business owner was going to sell to German in the 80s, they employees took out a loan and bought it instead. All I can say is kudos to him. I have been openly encouraging my 12 nieces, nephews, and extended family to invest as the first are about to graduate college. They must own assets and start as early as possible. Working since 14, worked over a dozen jobs, worked multiple jobs at once, worked through college, grinded 55 hours weekly for years, sometimes 100! hours, used to read 30 books annual, largely self help. I wish I knew then what I know now… Since my dad died so young and I have never had dad advice as an adult, it is rewarding to give my extended family dad advice…

Provide a press release from any affiliate that predates the release of the podcast and Benny Johnson's X post (~1 hr earlier) reporting Carr's threat and teasing the episode. Or any reporting that any affiliate made the decision before the threat. The only other affiliate group I am aware of that was planning to not air Kimmel's show was Sinclair. The article you linked to in this post describes the Sinclair announcement like this "Late Wednesday, Sinclair, which owns more ABC stations than any other affiliate group (including the ABC station in Washington D.C.), said that it would run a tribute to Kirk during Kimmel’s timeslot on Friday." Late Wednesday sound like it happened after the podcast published (~2pm) and after Johnson had posted to X (1pm). Also the earlier article on the Hollywood reporter did not mention Sinclair at all, but mentioned nexstar. The Sinclair announcement came after nexstar. Your timeline is most likely incorrect. Threats from Carr>Nexstar announcement>Sinclair announcement>ABC announcement.

I was fortunate enough to work at a great private company that gave me both a 401k (w match % that went up with tenure), a pension (with a lump sum option) and retiree medical. Worked my ass off but it was well worth it. Pre tax investment is absolutely something that people need to take advantage of.
