Does that sentence mean some random person should be running the country? Of course not. I shared those links to help make the point clearer. When the majority boycotts elections, it takes the power away from the billionaires. It forces the system to actually turn to experts to build something fair. Voting in these rigged elections just gives people the illusion that they’re in control of their future. If you read the article I linked, Chomsky lays it all out - how U.S. presidential elections aren’t all that different from a dictatorship when you get down to it.

No no no no no, that is not how it works padawan. 2025 there will be 300, 2026, there will be 600, 2027, there will be 1000 total, 2028 there will be 1500 total, 2029 there will be 50000 total, 2030 there will be 500k total. It is the D expectation curve of wishful thinking. Under perform in the beginning humiliate completely alienate and humilate your core supporters, and do so for years, and then all of the sudden, it will happen and the goal will be met. The above is just a fantasy. WA is the most green state in the union except taht we aren't. Haven;t met a single climate goal yet, but we are paying lots of money for it. Just gave us the highest tax increase in history so that we can be even more green with no mandatory reporting of progress or anything. One WA guy went to court to get a WA gov report and the court said he didn't have standing. That's how we roll in the PNW. mspart

Action got underway today from the U17 World Championships, and Greco-Roman was the initial style. Half of the American Greco contingent saw the mats on day one. When the dust settled, all five Americans have been knocked out of the chase for gold, but three remain in repechage. With a couple of wins, they still can come home from Athens, Greece, with a bronze medal. Of the two Americans that have already been eliminated - Isai Fernandez (80 kg) and Alex Taylor (110 kbs), both were able to garner wins on the day. Each came via tech. At 55 kg and 65 kg, Alexander Pierce and Arseni Kikiniou, respectively, suffered losses in their round of 32 bouts, but managed to get pulled back into repechage. The lightest member of Monday’s group of five, Michael Rundell, managed to post a win and is still in medal contention. In his opening round match with Ukraine’s Artem Kolos, Rundell got to wok from the par terre position after Kolos was deemed to be passive in the opening stanza. That opportunity was all Rundell needed as he secured a head pinch and exposed Kolos four times for a 9-0 tech. The remainder of the Greco-Roman weights will start their tournament on Tuesday morning. Before they get going, the wrestlers in repechage will continue their quest towards bronze medals. Below are the results for the Americans on day one, plus their repechage opponents, and the gold medal match at their weight. 48 kg Round of 16: Michael Rundell over Artem Kolos (Ukraine) 10-0 Quarterfinals: Nurdaulet Kumaruly (Kazakhstan) over Michael Rundell 8-0 Repechage: Michael Rundell vs. Gurban Majnunov (Azerbaijan) Finals Matchup: Nurdaulet Kumaruly (Kazakhstan) vs. Bunyod Hansanov (Uzbekistan) 55 kg Round of 32: Nurali Askar (Kazakhstan) over Alexander Pierce 8-4 Repechage: Alexander Pierce vs. Lavozier Wadik Maruso (Brazil) Finals Matchup: Nurali Askar (Kazakhstan) vs. Alkham Abdirasulov (Kyrgyzstan) 65 kg Round of 32: Janes Nazaryan (Armenia) over Arseni Kikiniou 4-1 Repechage: Arseni Kikiniou vs. Huseyn Isgandarov (Azerbaijan Finals Matchup: Huseyn Isgandarov (Azerbaijan) vs. Erekle Tavberidze (Georgia) 80 kg Round of 32: Isai Fernandez over Valentin Valentinov (Bulgaria) 10-0 Round of 16: Nurislam Oskonbaev (Kyrgyzstan) over Isai Fernandez 5-1 Finals Matchup: Luka Martiashvili (Georgia) vs. Abdulaziz Kholmirzev (Uzbekistan) 110 kg Round of 32: Alex Taylor over Essam Hussein (Egypt) 10-1 Round of 16: Denis Lazarov (Bulgaria) over Alex Taylor 3-3 Finals Matchup: Yazdan Delrouz (Iran) vs. Hardeep (India)

There is lots to criticize about American politics and democracy. That's why plenty are coming here from other countries. It's so bad here we import more folks than any other nation. It's so bad ..... mspart

Also, im assuming this is Jim Heffernan's son? Lots of great wrestling history in that family... Best case scenario in my opinion for the area is they start a team and become a powerhouse national prep program. Maybe many of those kids go on to wrestle at other schools around the country but some would definitely potentially trickle up the UB program and that would make them a lot more competitive and they get to keep these kids at a young age in one area or system similar to what David Taylor and Jordan Burroughs have described. While it would never be at that level given that UB is in the MAC it would still amazing to see the area really blossom. Given its proximity to PA and Ohio and any kids that want to cross the boarder from Canada.

Way subsidized here in WA where diesel is 5.00/gallon at the cheapest. But it is because the oil companies hate WA. They don't hate Idaho or Oregon where the prices of fuel are cheaper. But they hate CA too. Funny how Oregon escapes the wrath of the oil companies as well as most other states in the union. mspart

Lock Haven announced today he’s been added to the staff. Short time he spent at Northern Colorado.

Because oil and gas is heavily subsidized by the government already.

Cal will have close, low scoring matches with Mesenbrink but I don't see MM losing unless he has a mental lapse and forgets about riding time again or something. MM will light up his other opponents but overrespect Caliendo, which will make it seem closer than it is. We've seen similar with Nolf (Hidlay), Starocci (Kemerer), RBY (ADS), etc.

I just learned Coach Heffernan relocated to Buffalo, NY to become the AD at a small private school in Buffalo which unfortunately doesn't have a wrestling program... I know his wife is from the area but wonder if he's looking to get a program going there for high school or hanging around to potentially get involved at University at Buffalo? Does anyone have any connections to him?

There was discussion of this I think on one of the BB recruitment threads. I think @MPhillips is referring to the Designated Student Athlete rule which grandfathers athletes onto their team. Schools aren't required to keep the extra athletes, but can name anyone who would've been cut from the roster as a DSA so they don't count towards the limit (and it also follows the athlete if he or she transfers, so they don't count against their new school's roster limit). I think the deadline has passed for schools to name their DSAs, so it's probably safe to assume that the guys you see on Bloomsburg's roster today are protected.

Chomsky is one of those people involved in private power. FOR THE LEFT sooooooooo

All but 50 or so schools have opted-in so at this point, it's might be easier to see which ones have opted-out of revenue sharing. For wrestling, I believe the schools are the Ivy League + Air Force American Bellarmine Binghamton Bucknell Citadel Gardner-Webb Lehigh Mercyhurst Navy Presbyterian Queens VMI JB probably has a complete and accurate list on his website

Sucks. I think Wyoming and UNI have new facilities in the works too? Can't remember who else. I think UNI will be funding its new wrestling facility 100% through direction donations, so hopefully it'll continue forward. However, UNI's athletic department hasn't been self-sustaining for at least a decade, and gets funding from the university's general fund to keep sports afloat. That's not a huge surprise, since the MVC doesn't pull big media money; but UNI athletics has opted-in to revenue sharing and it's unclear what its path forward to self-sufficiency is, especially when the BOR is under pressure to stop transferring money from academia to athletics. There was a proposal in the state legislature for Iowa and ISU to share a % of their sports revenue with UNI, but that was shot down to no one's surprise. Tough road ahead, haves vs. have-nots, etc. Panthers insiders here may have details on what's happening.

That article’s about how the media shapes and controls public opinion in the U.S.. If you don’t have time to read the whole thing, just take a look at this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Noam_Chomsky?utm_source=chatgpt.com Criticism of United States democracy Chomsky maintains that a nation is only democratic to the degree that government policy reflects informed public opinion. He notes that the US does have formal democratic structures, but they are dysfunctional. He argues that presidential elections are funded by concentrations of private power and orchestrated by the public relations industry, focusing discussion primarily on the qualities and the image of a candidate rather than on issues.[55] Chomsky makes reference to several studies of public opinion by pollsters such as Gallup and Zogby and by academic sources such as the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland (PIPA). Quoting polls taken near the 2004 election, Chomsky points out that only a small minority of voters said they voted because of the candidate's "agendas/ideas/platforms/goals."[55] Furthermore, studies show that the majority of Americans have a stance on domestic issues such as guaranteed health care that is not represented by either major party.[56] Chomsky has contrasted US elections with elections in countries such as Spain, Bolivia, and Brazil, where he claims people are far better informed on important issues.[57]

Not that it had much impact on the final result but not giving Caliendo concussion protocol in the finals might have been the worst single call of the year.

I don't know about the rest of the MAC schools, but it's hard to see the PSAC schools - which, of course, compete in D2 in all sports except wrestling - ever opting in to revenue sharing with their athletes, especially given their financial situations. All of Bloomsburg's roster spots should be safe - BU needs those tuition dollars to keep flowing. Long term, don't be surprised if schools that don't opt in market themselves as "no cut". They won't compete with PSU, Iowa, etc., but more kids wrestling at more schools is, in my opinion, a good thing.
