Part of the reason why GOAT conversations are silly is because we all have our interpretations of what qualifies someone as the Goat. I would never argue it because the results don't add up but I still think Cary Kolat is the best US wrestler to take the mat in freestyle. I think he's the most talented American to do it. I'd put Spencer Lee as a close second. Maybe even first. IMO their freestyle skills far surpass JB, Dave Schultz, Bruce, John Smith etc. But they don't have the hardware to enter the conversation.
What are we arguing? Carter said he could go 197 or heavyweight. Emphasis on the word "could". That's different than what you implied. I do believe his trash talking to Ferrari about 190 was childish and low
I don't ever remember him saying he was going 197. He said he could when talking about his dad calling him up telling him to do it but he wasn't sure if his dad was joking. Cael was the one that said, "Carter 197 pound NCAA champ". He did say it was possible.
WKN, thank you for doing this. I've got another one. Little more challenging. Transfer portal success since 2018/2019 season. To qualify wrestler must've competed in his conference tournament prior to transferring. Wrestlers like Mesenbrink wouldn't count
Pritzlaff was the other multi time champ. Thats 7 champs (14 titles) compared to 125 5 champs (12 titles). I definitely missed the mark on 125. I should've gone with my first hunch 149. I think it's only (7 titles).
Oof - Just off the top of my head I can list these multi time champs at 165- Taylor, Cenzo, KOT, Dierenger, Hendricks, Perry, Imar...Who am I missisng?
