yeah i see your point, but you're not a little grated by the "HAPPY FUN TIME" vibe that the videos waterboard you with? If they took some of that out and added a tiny bit of the dirty backstage it would be considerably better....if it was fully transparent it would be the most compelling content in media but obviously thats a pipe dream.

I got word 2nd hand from member of the IU staff that Goldman was so bad he operated on a third of of the budget of next least funded big ten school. He never asked for anything and the administration just thought wrestling was supposed to be that cheap....yeah the admins there didn't care at all.

ok, well when you got nuanced about "hot seat", I thought you were pushing in a different direction. But, I'd say ASU shouldn't be out of trophy contention for long. Though maybe thats different now, i think they lost their money guy, so historical comparisons might not be in order.

well, the reason Rash's post was such vapid trash is that we'd have to be in contact with the admins to know whose on the hot seat. Some of these programs that don't seem to care do have hot seats, some coaches are in contract situations where the hot seat has to wait. I'm not sure how we're supposed to know besides pointing out programs we think are underperforming.

I think Jones does a poor job. He was really good tuning violins at the senior level, he's better at it than Cael and CO, but that is not what makes a good college coach at all. He's not really equipped to coach folk at all from what I can tell.

I don't think he's gonna be a bonus machine, but I don't think he's gonna be a significant underdog unless he hits MM, which won't happen anytime soon cause Cael hates wrestling when its not working harder for him than vice versa. Two or three seed.

For the record I think Lockett is completely cringe and won't route for him till PSU is in imminent danger.... One thing i haven't heard mentioned, Lorenzo Norman is really really good, he's not MM so it makes sesne in a PSU/OSU topic, but I didn't realize he landed there till recently. Top 4.

Yeah i certainly agree they are doing as well in the room as anyone, I guess my push back is against the bandwagon jumpers taking a dump on Smith from the heights of Taylor's inflated reputation. Also I should compliment the forum, I don't think his reputation is artificially inflated on here, just like I don't think there are any obnoxious PSU fans on here now that Tbar found the light.

I sort of agree with that....I think Taylor gets outsized credit for in the room coaching based on his ability to pull in top top kids (often via shady recruiting practices apparently), but thats kind of splitting hairs, he's gonna get compared to guys who all were great wrestlers and had a massive recruiting advantage based on that. I think Vega and Forrest would be very similar under john smith (though he wouldn't have gotten em), a kid like robideau benefited massively from taylor (he's in the haines starocci style mold that PSU and apparently Taylor can just churn out). Anyway I guess my main reaction is that I'm gonna give Smith a pass on Lockett being boring unless Taylor turns him around. Thats all just free flowing thoughts from my I don't mean it to contradict anything you said directly.

I think Lockett has been in that room sense he was a kid. That makes me more pessimistic, if he was gonna figure it out he's every opprtunity.
