Did brooks compete at junior worlds/U23?
-
I saw Taylor win the last two world championships including over the guy about to dominate the guy who beat Brooks. Exactly. All the complaining about the defending world champions having too much of an advantage making the team led to a change that made the team worse.
-
You need to keep in mind that Taylor wins this match easily though. Brooks looks more on the level of Jake Herbert/Andy Hrovat battling for medals than Taylor.
-
You see it in NCAA where a guy who is worse beats somebody in a wrestle off and then underperforms against other competition. It seems like that’s what happened here. Brooks didn’t look great in any of his matches.
-
How was the guy not prepared for those positions?
-
He didn’t look prepared at all for international wrestling. Like he had trained for Taylor and only Taylor.
-
That’s kind of random that there’s an Iranian wrestling diaspora within an Indiana wrestling forum of all places.

WFS 50kg: Vinesh Phogat (India) missed weight
billyhoyle replied to peanut's topic in International Wrestling
Nobody else had a problem making weight the second day. Why should the rules changed based on one person to advantage those who cut more weight? -
If you value your own sanity, you won't read the shit he said in the Amit Elor thread.
-
If you want to argue that this person: is better than Simone Biles, go ahead. But it's like claiming Robin Reed is the greatest American wrestler of all time. Yeah, I get that he pinned every wrestler in his wrestling room with his legs, but it's not a serious argument. The sport was barely being developed in the 50s when she won. And even if you go medal for medal, Biles has significantly at the world championships to go along with similar Olympic succcess.

Should Amit Elor wrestle in college?
billyhoyle replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Going to MMA would be unwise. Along with getting punched in the face, it's not as if women's MMA is hugely profitable in the days since Ronda Rousey. She would likely be the marquee wrestler competing in 2028 and to profit greatly from that (like JB did in 2016). -

I was going to make weight on the second day, but I Phogat. -
I'm not an expert on the sport, but I'm pretty sure it's not even a question. I think she's at like 20+ world championship gold medals and 7 at the olympics. She also objectively has done moves that are much more difficult than anyone else ever has or has even attempted. It's not really like wrestling where we can debate whether Jordan Burroughs could have beaten Saitiev. You can see the video of the moves/flips that they do in gymnastics and hers are objectively more difficult. So I think we are in Wayne Gretzky territory with her, where it's not even up for debate.
-
^^^^ There’s a reason he doesn’t lose at the Olympics.

A loss of 6.5% is definitely inconsequential. The market is still up 10% YTD and 16% over the last 12 months. If a 6.5% correction worries you just because we are back down to a 10% return YTD, you are gambling, not investing.

Lopez has those silvers by choice, because he lives in a country with few resources for athletes. He is unquestionably the greatest wrestler ever.

Harris Picks Walz as VP Running Mate over Josh Shapiro
billyhoyle replied to PortaJohn's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Just keep in mind that to win the election, it's not you that they need to win over. It's moderates-most of whom don't buy into conspiracy theories like what you're detailing here, but they do want to see candidates closer to the center. It's exactly why J.D. Vance was an historically bad choice. So the person that you like the most isn't necessarily the best person for winning. Kamala is a very progressive candidate, and she's the person who actually makes the decisions. She has done great, but adding somebody like Shapiro or Kelly would have been helpful to her goal of winning. If the goal is to trend on twitter, she made a great choice, but unfortunately it's not going to help much where it counts. It won't hurt her, but it won't be very helpful. -
Republicans Will Complain No Matter What

I just don't think they are well organized in their messaging. Going crazy over a 2% drop in the stock market after it being up 25% on the year...Anybody who has had a 401K longer than a week knows that is not a big deal, and now they look stupid because it is on the way back up. The inflation was bad, but not historically bad (it was up to 12-13% when Carter lost to Reagan). I think overplaying that hand was a mistake as well. There are a couple issues that they could focus on like immigration, spending/debt (this would require an actual conservative running and not a populist like Trump), and crime (in a reasonable way, not the over the top language that trump uses) that could be very effective. But they can't help but repeatedly overreact, which minimizes the issues that people feel strongly about. -
Phelps winning 8/8 gold medals is a singular accomplishment that may never be done again, just like Lopez winning gold in 5 straight olympics might never be done again. Usain Bolt is the single most impressive athlete that I've ever seen compete in the olympics though. The reason I say that is that I don't think there is a person who has ever lived that could have been faster. And he maintained what he did over 3 olympic games. I'm not sure his 100 or 200m records will fall any time soon. Lopez is incredible, and the greatest wrestler of all time, but I don't think the best athletes in the world become wrestlers. With that said, Simone BIles might be the greatest olympic athlete of all time. She is the greatest gymnast ever, which is one of the marquee sports in the olympics. She also competed well beyond what is typical for female gymnasts. And she is a survivor of sexual abuse from a predator in USA gymnastics, and came back from that abuse to win again after struggling mentally because of it. It is a story that we will only appreciate more with time, since I don't think people really understand the magnitude of what she has overcome and accomplished. I don't think there is a story as impactful in sports.

Harris Picks Walz as VP Running Mate over Josh Shapiro
billyhoyle replied to PortaJohn's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
"Credibly accused of." Nobody actually buys that it was a cover up. It's a specific murder case while he was the DA of the entire state. The guy has 60%+ approval in PA, where that case happened. Maybe you buy it, which is fine, but it's not an attack that would have actually mattered because it's nitpicking a single case from the DA of an entire state. The bottom line is they let a huge opportunity go to waste-this decision makes it less likely that she wins. -

Terrible choice. This guy adds absolutely nothing. It’s not JD Vance level bad, but she had an opportunity to almost guarantee winning PA and passed on it. This guy adds absolutely nothing, and for somebody still the underdog, that’s not wise. -
Elor is the 5th best US female wrestler of all time
billyhoyle replied to peanut's topic in International Wrestling
I would go 1. Maroulis 2. Elor (never lost at senior level) 3. TMS Olympics should be valued more because there are only 6 weights. -
Would a Brooks Yazdani match be extra spicy?
billyhoyle replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in International Wrestling
Hopefully Iranian fans don’t know or forgot about it. I know he hasn’t said anything nearly as bad since, but Brooks never apologized for the comment. If he wins, I really hope he doesn’t use the opportunity to say the same thing. -
Here’s the thing. You aren’t the arbiter of who is an American. That’s the US constitution and our laws. You making up your own arbitrary definition of who is an American is about as meaningful as if you created your own personal version of the Olympics. It’s also strange that you have created a cutoff at a third generation American counting. Native Americans might not consider you to be American. I also don’t think you understand how genetics works-your genes don’t change based on where your parents are born. If you can’t celebrate that one of the best wrestlers in the world is American (born here, trained here, representing our country), ask yourself why that is. I’d also consider changing your handle, since using JB’s moniker to espouse this nonsense just isn’t right.
