Very well said, and I agree. I feel like he is the true king of "excuses are for wusses,' as while Spencer was saying that, he was telling the world about his injury. You never hear boo from Yianni in regards to his injuries. A good portion of those Yianni injuries were smack dab in the middle of the Yianni/Zane Final X debacle. Just kidding about Spencer, he is obviously tough as nails. I just like how Yianni never even speaks of this.

The most recent one was to repair his labrum which was his 9th surgery in last 7 years. He has had both right and left elbow ( Senior year of high school which prevented him from winning his 5th straight NYS title and 4th super 32 title, which still has not been done. Then he had acl surgery on his knee from the Quarterfinal NCAA match vs Dean Heil his true freshman year at Cornell. He then had a meniscus surgery summer of 2019. Then he had a Bakers cyst surgery January of 2020. That developed into a dangerous infection in his leg that blew his leg up and could have killed him but was able to have surgery on that June of 2020. He had a couple other growth plate surgeries as well I believe. You just do not hear much about it as a result of this kid being that tough. I don't think people realize how tough this kid really is.

He is going to wrestle 70kg for the foreseeable future. When 2028 comes, he will hurdle that obstacle. He is recovering from surgery on torn labrum. I know many people wrote him off but it is foolish to. He is the only American wrestler for team usa to have earned a medal at 65kg in the last 20 years. He won a silver and then was in final X and that call vs Nick Lee being reversed was a killer. Not to mention his ill advised decision to shoot so late in march #1 with the lead. If he had won that he was the #2 seed at that worlds on the much less competitive seabass side of bracket. He had teched seabass the year prior in a min and without a doubt makes the world final again. Instead rather he doesn’t go to worlds, he wrestles Nick Lee off for pan am spot and after leading early hits his head and is done. He had a hell of a time sucking weight to make it for the trials which hindered his performance there no doubt. A whole lot of bad forks in the road you could say. He isn’t done though he will be back this year!!

I know Cornell recruited him and they were one of his final choices but fell short. As soon as Ryder committed I knew Penn St was a lock for him. Guys have been friends their entire life. He transferred schools going from Carmel to Minisink Valley (after pinning his way through states as a 7th grader on varsity going 51-0) in order to train with Ryder. Ryder committed to Penn St, then Duke. Ryder forwent his senior year of high school to train at Penn St, sure we will hear Duke doing the same in the upcoming weeks.

Vito missing always stings. Cornell is 11-4 on the year and Vito missing all 4 losses. The difference with this door was had Vito been in Cornell. Still loses the match if Vito is in against Ohio State and Lehigh, they only lost two by one point each, and clearly Cornell wins. Those two is him being out in those two matches were at the very least of nine point swing had Vito been in against Iowa State along with having Meyer and Ramirez and then Cornell Wednesday match to when you do the math on it, this one, not a chance

Cardenas was a U23 Bronze this year, and U23 Silver last year..never won a Gold. Cornella was really hurt, had to be carried off the mat vs Mizzou cause of Knee. I was at the match and I’m honestly surprised that he’s gonna be back for Binghamton tomorrow so the only other guy missing from Cornell is Vito. I know a lot of people act as if Cornell’s was missing half their line up, but thats not the case. One could argue that really, it was just Vito missing because I’m not sure Cornella would’ve done much better than Saunders did against Jack. But Cornell had 8 starters in

An absolute horrific example of this issue took place at Final X in regards to comparing the calls of the Yianni/Lee and Richards/Gilman matches. Not only were the grounded situations called in a consistent manner, but they actually penalized a wrestler who was grounded and did not penalize a wrestler who should have been. Richards who was getting backed out of bounds by Gilman literally just dropps to both knees intentionally to avoid push out point. What do they call ? Just call grounded. So no point awarded to Gilman, and they start back center mat. What should they have called ? Should have been a caution 1 against Richards and he should have then started down in parterre position center mat. Nick Lee is pushing Yianni back and Yianni attacks the same way he has a million times before where he fakes a shot right and tries to duck left. Nick Lee ultimately blocks the duck sending Yianni to his knees. Even then , Yianni attempts another shot from his knees to the right and Lee pushes Yianni out of bounds while Yianni is grounded . What do they call ? They caution -1 Yianni and have him start parterre center mat. This not only gives Lee a point but then he got 2 more points from that parterre with a trap arm followed by Yianni getting 1 point reversal. This decided the match as the final was 7-6. Lee should have not gotten the 1 point for caution 1 and should not have been in the position to get the 2 point exposure. Yianni would in turn not get the 1 point reversal. that’s a 2 point swing Yianni’s way in a 1 point loss. Now who is to say that the rest of the match doesn’t end differently if Lee is down instead of up in score. Bottom line, we will never know cause the officials screwed it up. This should have been called grounded as him being on his knees was a result of Lee’s defense against Yianni’s offensive action. It would be one thing if they both did what Richards did (going to his knees intentionally to be grounded ) and they called it two different ways in each match. It is another thing altogether when they call both scenarios wrong opposite of each other.
