I have absolutely zero clue what this says.

Penn State has 9/10 starters ranked in the top 10 Intermat
Tigerfan replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
So if I’m reading that correctly, PSU during Cael has had 82%, 82%, 70%, and 100% of its top 4 seeds meet or exceed their seeds, respectively. That seems phenomenal to me. While I understand probabilities and the resulting math would say 7 champs out of 9 top 4 seeds is “unlikely”, the eye test would lead me to not being shocked in the slightest. -

But what about a PSU guy seeded #1 in the last decade or so? And is there a team with more champs that weren’t seeded #1 than PSU? Is that the PSU bump to which you are referring? Maybe I’m being too fatalistic, but moving forward I don’t see how the field narrows the gap, or God forbid, overcomes it, with all of the systemic advantages transfer/NIL provides PSU. I’ll be more shocked if PSU ever fields a team that has less than 5 champs than if they have 7 or even 8. -

Didn’t PSU start the season with 8/10 ranked top 3? That was/still is impressive. And maybe even 7 of those were either 1 or 2. Would it shock anyone who’s paid attention the last decade if PSU predictably over performs at NCAA’s and has 10 AA’s and 7 champs? Not likely, but certainly not shocking. -
Can we move past the "He's only wrestled six matches" bs?
Tigerfan replied to buckshot's topic in College Wrestling
How exactly are they being penalized? Everyone knows the minute they get the minimum match count the coaches will insert them as #1. It’s not like they’ll have to climb the rankings slowly having started at #20 or something. Everyone recognizes that this set of rankings is missing PSU’s demonstrated studs. The only people who attach much meaning to this poll are Mizzou fans who are grateful that at least the coaches haven’t forgot that Mizzou preseason had the 2nd most returning points (behind PSU, obviously) and despite all ranking services assuming that not one single starter would improve rather than regress. The results so far show that Mizzou has finally resumed its rightful place as 2nd. Is that how things will finish, only time will tell. At this point in time, however, Mizzou deserves to be ranked 2nd until results disprove that. That has not happened yet. In fact, most of Mizzou’s lineup is ranked higher now that week 1, based on results, quite the opposite of what Flo, Intermat, etc. we’re projecting initially. -
You quoted Corby’s excellent explanation while posing the question. You were literally told 2 min before you asked the question that 16 was not necessary. I guess I don’t understand why.
-
So you think in another 5 weeks there will still be a lot of PSU guys with less than 8 matches and less than a .700 win pct?

Is an opinion that you admit was ignorant of relevant facts worthy of respect? Does every person under 40 demand that the rest of us respect their ignorant opinions? I’m not bitter, just thought it was curious, that’s all Carry on!

I find it interesting that after proclaiming you didn’t understand how it was possible for Beard to be ranked behind Elam and Buchanan, you then immediately admit you don’t know any history of those 2, and we’re apparently unaware that Elam has placed 5,4,3 AT THIS WEIGHT, as well as undefeated. This has nothing to do with your lack of knowledge, I’m glad you’re getting into it. No shame there, at all. But, what concerns me was your willingness to have such a strong opinion about anything, while almost simultaneously admitting you don’t possess even the most basic relevant facts. I’m gonna guess you’re less than 40 years old and move on. Sorry, that sounds preachy or whatever. I just found that exchange interesting, that’s all. I should delete this whole post, but wth, no shame in sharing my stream of consciousness in this instance.

Career-wise maybe, but strictly this year, up to this point, Cael certainly would not warrant the #1 spot. They started the year projected to annihilate the field, but injuries and lackluster performances in a light schedule with a steadily shrinking projected points doesn’t scream coach of the year. There are several other coaches who appear to be doing much better with less talent. Seems like A-LR, Navy, OkSt, and a few others are exceeding expectations rather than diminishing them.

Looks right to me.

Fair topic, pastry troll or not. Dual or tournament? Iowa is terrified of dualing Mizzou and refuses every year. I think it’s a legit unknown, but Iowa, Nebraska, tOSU, NCST, Mizzou, and Cornell all can get hot and finish 2nd. Don’t think we’ll know until Sat nite.

Methinks you might be mistaking humor for solemnity. No worries.

Who cares? Neither Benji Cutiepie nor Hash Nutmuncher sniffs the podium this year, and they wrestle for the two most hated schools in all of sports. (I might be biased though).

Didn’t someone on this thread coin him Hash Nutmasher? Hilarious! -

And Volk beat Caleb Smith, wrestlestat’s #2, iirc. Wild weight. -
Seems to me Brock’s problem has always been giving too much respect to his opponents. He’s a different wrestler in the room and against clearly overmatched opponents, but he clams up against the top 8 or so guys. It’s like he’s convinced he can’t be taken down and can always win with one takedown, but year after year the top 5 or 6 guys CAN take him down and he’s always shocked that it happened. To be fair he has opened things up this year and I’m even more confident he’ll finish top 6 than ever. To climb any higher, he’ll need to stay offensive against the best. Alas, I doubt he can make that change at this point.

Yes, you can watch a replay on there.

Agreed. Texas is undisputed king. I actually like Carolina, but I’m an unabashed mustard fan.

This event was never intended to be anything other than a school-funded vacation, by the coaches who started it. Maybe I should have warned y’all to not pay for it. On another note, I wonder how many matches Flo’s favs will have to lose before they stop trying to justify their rankings? Time will tell.
