Do we put too much emphasis on heavy lifting?
alliseeisgold replied to Eagle26's topic in International Wrestling
Nope not even close. Had better international feel. Knew how to move contort his body out of brooks 2 and knew how to score on brooks in an international position while brooks was doing folk. Proved big muscle guys still can have that slick feel to em. Nickal could of helped brooks. -

Only "physical" advantage Russians have is balance .... And quick twitch muscle fibers. Their muscles are trained for each position ...not through weights. They break down each biometric muscle pattern used in wrestling ....understand the most efficient movement and through wrestling develop those reactions and thus the muscles needed to do it better. it's wrestling function. Pure strength is completely useless on its own. That balance and instinctual twitch to move through a position is basically their advantage. I call it international feel. Bo nickal had an international style. How many Americans will give you a leg ? Would of liked to see nickal develop. -
Carr doesn't dominate quite to the extent nolf and others before him did in college imo. Even zain. Steiber. Unprecedented run of 4 time champs recently and 3 timers. And look at them in the senior level. Our guys just don't jump levels at the senior level. Meanwhile just read kiyooka was like 8th at u23. We flatline or get worse. Other countries get better.

Nolf is one of the last of the Mohicans ...like nolf alot. Dake I think will wrestle 28 if I had to bet But after nolf. Those replacements look a lot worse. Yianni was supposed to be the next great one. Didn't happen. You have to go to a guy like a David carr. Just not on the level of a nolf. All the great cadets we thought we had just not elite enough. Truly just witnessed a golden age of USA wrestling. Back to being a bottom dweller

If people think it's bad now....just wait. At least this crop has the talent. Don't even think good coaching can help the next crop. No Taylor's dakes Burroughs cox Snyder's walking through that door The dropoff is real. Don't even see any Metcalf walking through that door. Messenbrink isn't even close to being it. That's like saying Micah Jordan would win a medal.

how many medals do we nab in Paris
alliseeisgold replied to Truzzcat's topic in International Wrestling
If I knew we were going down like that I would of preferred to go down Metcalf style. Another brands guy. Like lee. The way those guys wrestle puts a smile on my face -

I only predicted one gold (dake).....yet I still think we massively underachieved. Lost as the favorite in many matches and didn't win any as underdogs. Carl didn't even show up. He must of known not to show his face. He must of been in state college. -
Perhaps better to have studs spread across RTCs?
alliseeisgold replied to Dark Energy's topic in International Wrestling
absolutely wild i see few people acting like usa didn't underperform - when they and everyone else predicted better results, we got great draws, and russia was not there. If you think we did not underperform - you are admitting you wouldn't take brooks in a best of 5 series against the bulgarian. Shit - you'd take brooks tomorrow all day. He was controlling the first period. Same with dake , your admitting you wouldn't take dake in a best of series against the japanese, would take him all day tomorrow. And admitting you wouldn't take snyder against the iranian, or parris. That is the definition of underperforming - losing to guys you are better then. -
all i know is post his first olympic gold when nike was involved the only way rudis could sign him was to give him stake in the company. unfortunately, that was snyders peak. From a business standpoint - that is called buying at the top. I would not say he is a very personable marketable guy either like say jb that is a media draw. The play rudis should of went at that time was spg alum TAylor. His value just skyrocketed. of course the ultimate play would be for rudis to go sign a real winner like taz, sadulaev, or penetrate the international scene. With those fans i couldn't imagine how much the brand would increase.
-
Don't believe Snyder ever talks to bo Jordan any ex teammate or Ryan or any Ohio state affiliation at all whatsoever except for rudis where he is a part owner. Talk about a bad investment. Watching Snyder wrestle is like watching paint dry on a wall. Just a very boring style.
-
As I recall he just pulled a tiger on Stevie Williams or Mark omeara. Basically tervel was as responsible for Snyder developing as cael for Taylor. Sure was a can't miss but heavyweight training guys are rare ....more then that it wasn't a classic coach player relationship more of a best friend relationship and Snyder is on record saying the unique approach of tervel changed his mental approach to wrestling. Pretty much credited his Olympic gold solely to tervel. If you noticed tiger was never the same after leaving Stevie Williams.

Should NCAA wrestling adopt all or some freestyle rules?
alliseeisgold replied to peanut's topic in International Wrestling
How much would you pay to see folkstyle retherford vs the Iranian that crushed him. The Iranian is strong as an ox...I think he rides zain. If USA is going to have folk...it takes much of its luster away knowing we all prbly suck at folk and it's like what are we cheering for ? A rich guy needs to put up a prize tourney to engage internationals to give folk a go for entertainment. Sanctioning it as a style like swimming would be great. How about an "all around" medal for ability to wrestle all 3 styles. 6 minutes is much too short for an anticipated bout....combining all styles would be nice. -
I don't think JB and Taylor wrestled junior worlds So answer me this. What country has developed junior world talent into senior level talent worse then the USA ? Only diahhamolis Lee and brooks and parris have made it. None have gold. I bet Iran Russia Japan etc have multiple junior world champs developed successfully into senior champs. If Lee didn't wrestle freestyle cause of folk scrap it. Burn folk.
-
Yes and no - I think we overate our talent. We normally don't have a run of JB Taylor cox dake Snyder etc in .....never will be as talented as Russia. But we should be 2nd place. Junior worlds shows we have the talent for 2nd in world. The problem imo lies in developing them at the world stage against even talents and not losing based on technical aspects. Outside of JB and taylor none of these junior world champs develop into Olympic champs. Wonder why that is ? We have the participation and money and facilities but not the freestyle coaching and training system. So I believe we would need better resources on the coaching side. Maybe bring in some Japanese. Should we can folk ? Maybe. Or we just need some new blood on here for freestyle coaching besides the same ole guard. It's also not like Russia and Iran would not dominate folk. They would freaking own folk. Would be better than USA because those countries have such naturally brute phyiques and styles they would be absolute beasts in top and bottom.

USA has succeeded recently due to an abnormal run of elite talent , combined with watered down weight classes and the surprise of never seeing our new guys before...and once that has gone away the USA has failed expectations. We should be good enough to take talents like dake and win gold....which is just asking for our training system to be on par with the world. Anyone honestly doesn't believe dake is the most talented wrestler at his weight minus Russia ? If they wrestle 10 times I bet you'd still pick dake to win gold still. So dake failing at both Olympics is a failure. Outside of Taylor and Burroughs. It's all pretty much taking elite talents and underperforming on the highest stakes when the world has time to prepare for us The rtc system has had 0 impact even tho there was a correlation made there.. Even ppl said college wrestling made USA tougher. Those don't add up. Historically USA is mid. That's not changing. The movements just look more "natural' for other countries. Not sure how to describe it. Just innate feel. Prbly gotta have a different system to develop it.

We all know the woman follows the man. Snyder didn't need to cut off his best friends from Ohio State. Obviously he felt cael was the secret sauce. He was wrong. Clearly.
-
I would argue the synergy between Snyder and tervel is the kind you really never see between a coach and athlete. Think of any others ? I can't think of any The kind that gives you a competitive edge
-
100 percent. The synergy with tervel was great and if anything Snyder has a coaching edge with tervel. Countless interviews of Snyder talking about how much tervel helped him, mentally as well. Just not sure how you go from that, including being best friends to just completely cutting everything with Ohio state off Sounds like karma.
-
Wow just saw Snyder lost , as a favorite again. We still don't think he's regressed since going to Carl ? Been saying he's more average then elite all week but even I thought he would pull out a bronze. Boy.....RETHERford was the best performance by carl this week. Sometimes your just outclassed and that's ok.

Best p for p all styles top 10
alliseeisgold replied to alliseeisgold's topic in International Wrestling
very likely 35 % or more of the p f p best in world were not present at his worlds. -
1 amouzad 2a sidakov 2b semen novikov 3 Lopez Cuba 4 yaz 5 jap women 6 David Taylor 7 sadulaev 8 yazdani 9 uguev 10 rashidov
-
Couple more thoughts. Snyder had an admirable loss. Zain too. Can live with those. Dake - post interview he was like "yea I scored Everytime the jap got in on me'. Too stubborn and won't change Why is the USA coaches too incompetent to develop technique like the Japanese to expose dakes weakness ? I may have to give carl a pass here as why would he think dake needs to be concerned when nobody has threatened him there ? Well except for takatani last year who looked good in the same position ( Jesus USA coaching) How are there ppl pretending like Taylor wouldn't of run through this bracket ? Would of easily teched that guy (whatever the hell he was doing) in the bronze medal match for brooks. Never seen someone with such bad offense. He would of teched the Bulgarian too. No doubt.
-
And expectation wise one of if not the worst (without Russia) No getting around it. We shit the bed. Tactical coaching errors. Mental preparation. Did not live up to our talent. Unacceptable. Except for brands. Who should replace zadick

How does one become an ioc member ? Be a rich guy with power ?
-
The white haired ioc guy at every wrestling event just handed the gold to USA basketball. No idea of the ioc structure. But 111 members. Guess he's pretty high up ? Thought he only did wrestling.
