  1. Yes and no - I think we overate our talent. We normally don't have a run of JB Taylor cox dake Snyder etc in .....never will be as talented as Russia. But we should be 2nd place. Junior worlds shows we have the talent for 2nd in world. The problem imo lies in developing them at the world stage against even talents and not losing based on technical aspects. Outside of JB and taylor none of these junior world champs develop into Olympic champs. Wonder why that is ? We have the participation and money and facilities but not the freestyle coaching and training system. So I believe we would need better resources on the coaching side. Maybe bring in some Japanese. Should we can folk ? Maybe. Or we just need some new blood on here for freestyle coaching besides the same ole guard. It's also not like Russia and Iran would not dominate folk. They would freaking own folk. Would be better than USA because those countries have such naturally brute phyiques and styles they would be absolute beasts in top and bottom.
  2. USA has succeeded recently due to an abnormal run of elite talent , combined with watered down weight classes and the surprise of never seeing our new guys before...and once that has gone away the USA has failed expectations. We should be good enough to take talents like dake and win gold....which is just asking for our training system to be on par with the world. Anyone honestly doesn't believe dake is the most talented wrestler at his weight minus Russia ? If they wrestle 10 times I bet you'd still pick dake to win gold still. So dake failing at both Olympics is a failure. Outside of Taylor and Burroughs. It's all pretty much taking elite talents and underperforming on the highest stakes when the world has time to prepare for us The rtc system has had 0 impact even tho there was a correlation made there.. Even ppl said college wrestling made USA tougher. Those don't add up. Historically USA is mid. That's not changing. The movements just look more "natural' for other countries. Not sure how to describe it. Just innate feel. Prbly gotta have a different system to develop it.
  3. We all know the woman follows the man. Snyder didn't need to cut off his best friends from Ohio State. Obviously he felt cael was the secret sauce. He was wrong. Clearly.
  4. I would argue the synergy between Snyder and tervel is the kind you really never see between a coach and athlete. Think of any others ? I can't think of any The kind that gives you a competitive edge
  5. 100 percent. The synergy with tervel was great and if anything Snyder has a coaching edge with tervel. Countless interviews of Snyder talking about how much tervel helped him, mentally as well. Just not sure how you go from that, including being best friends to just completely cutting everything with Ohio state off Sounds like karma.
  6. Wow just saw Snyder lost , as a favorite again. We still don't think he's regressed since going to Carl ? Been saying he's more average then elite all week but even I thought he would pull out a bronze. Boy.....RETHERford was the best performance by carl this week. Sometimes your just outclassed and that's ok.
  7. very likely 35 % or more of the p f p best in world were not present at his worlds.
  8. 1 amouzad 2a sidakov 2b semen novikov 3 Lopez Cuba 4 yaz 5 jap women 6 David Taylor 7 sadulaev 8 yazdani 9 uguev 10 rashidov
  9. Couple more thoughts. Snyder had an admirable loss. Zain too. Can live with those. Dake - post interview he was like "yea I scored Everytime the jap got in on me'. Too stubborn and won't change Why is the USA coaches too incompetent to develop technique like the Japanese to expose dakes weakness ? I may have to give carl a pass here as why would he think dake needs to be concerned when nobody has threatened him there ? Well except for takatani last year who looked good in the same position ( Jesus USA coaching) How are there ppl pretending like Taylor wouldn't of run through this bracket ? Would of easily teched that guy (whatever the hell he was doing) in the bronze medal match for brooks. Never seen someone with such bad offense. He would of teched the Bulgarian too. No doubt.
  10. And expectation wise one of if not the worst (without Russia) No getting around it. We shit the bed. Tactical coaching errors. Mental preparation. Did not live up to our talent. Unacceptable. Except for brands. Who should replace zadick
  11. How does one become an ioc member ? Be a rich guy with power ?
  12. The white haired ioc guy at every wrestling event just handed the gold to USA basketball. No idea of the ioc structure. But 111 members. Guess he's pretty high up ? Thought he only did wrestling.
  13. I can live with this Snyder loss today and Spencer's. Prbly zain too. Everyone else you can easily say there tactical mistakes that were easily preventable with good coaching. And that is unaccepted and cannot be tolerated by USA wrestling.
  14. Japan technique just another level. No USA coach even got close to technique to expose dakes chest wrap Mind numbing really how that's possible
  15. Actually gonna give cael credit in the Snyder game plan. Nothing stupid really . Snyder was wearing him out. Should of just started attacking sooner Solid loss.
  16. How damning is it that no USA opponent had the technique to expose Kyle's chest wrap after studying him ? Burroughs included The Japan opponent obviously was in the lab Actually he looked adept against it last time he faced dake Also why is Carl not seeking ways opponents will attack dake and be ready for that ?
  17. There was more weights back then but versus expectations this tops them all I recognize Snyder's ability to play up to his competition but frankly he hasn't done it in quite many years. Taz will roll him. Zain is going to lose a Metcalf grinder with a lack of freestyle fluidity. Both are coached by Sanderson. Just something to monitor tomorrow. Specifically zain late in matches.
  18. Kyle "bronze" medal Snyder is not getting gold. Snyder is solid not spectacular and he is always in a bronze medal match. Zain ? At 65 ? ......I see him losing a "tough hard fought battle" as is the status quo with him ....likely at the end of the last period with a lead. Blowing the lead with a lack of innate fluidity in certain positions and practiced awareness of how to close out matches from nittany lion wrestling club.
  19. JB is great. And a a+ ambassador for the sport. Did anyone catch the comment about his dad giving him a gold necklace was like a wrestler bearing their flag ? I may have butchered it just walked in the room from doing some summer cleaning but I swear I heard him talking about gold necklaces.....and it may have been an apt comparison but it seemed rather strange.
  20. First I didn't notice anymore palpable excitement or feel watching it from regular worlds. I was told the Olympics was different ? I couldn't tell. If anything it looked more watered down and worse then worlds without Russia. Second - 0 golds is not an abject failure due to simply no golds. (Without Russia). It's not fair to criticize coaches or competitors based solely on wins and losses as it is the manner in which they win or lose. Example Spencer Lee and brands. That's a GREAT effort in a loss and silver medal. Another example is Serbia basketball vs USA. It is an abject failure tho in the case of mason parris. In the case of Aaron brooks. And Kyle dake tho takatani may have just been on a heater. When you get praised beyond belief for winning you DESERVE the likewise when you don't win. Insert cael Sanderson. Insert Bill zadick. Insert USA training system. When we praise the rtc system based on results it must be re examined and thought if this is the best method when results turn to losses instead of wins (without Russia). 3rd - imagine if Spencer Lee went full throttle into freestyle after winning junior worlds instead of going to folk ? How many senior worlds would he have ?...Gilman looked like the little engine that could. Played above his talent. Lee looks like a 5 star. 4th thinking USA could get a medal at every weight and multiple golds was completely over the top. Especially for guys like brooks who deserved to lose to Valencia and hasnt dominated opponents internationally. And a guy like parris who is not near as consistent as gwiz was. The best years have been when we have guarded optimism with a chip on the shoulder and something to prove to the world. The lack of Russia and recent success may have taken it away. Came in on a high horse. 5th greco gets a bad wrap. Watching some of those middleweights was sheer athletic excellence on display. The Bulgarian who won gold in greco has insane hips. Way more action then I've ever seen in greco. Such a shame USA sucks in this sport. That Bulgarian may be one of the best pfp wrestlers overall basing this on one match and no other background info. 6th We know Snyder isn't winning gold. Book it. He's far more average then elite. Bad move turning on his boy dlagnov. 7th cael is a GREAT folk coach. Free - overrated. The lack of tactical awareness and training displayed by brooks and cael after it happened to him with Gilman will be one for the record books and should be one of the first things brought up when discussing cael Sanderson for the eternity of time. It's on his record. No idea what zadick does. The system feels broken.
  21. Kind of feel brooks is on level of that krugeliv amine match
  22. Burroughs just compared his dad giving him a gold chain to the pride of wrestlers putting their countrys flag on after the match
  23. As good as Gilman was at international, Lee just has so much more punch. A real blue chip.
  24. 0 golds without Russia Lee wrestled a match to be proud of Brands coaches a match to be proud of Brands is greater then cael If your gonna go down. At least go down like that. No dumb tactics.
  25. Zadick has say. He has the ability to have the conversations of what needs improved worked on scouting of opponent and staying in contact with rtc or calling players personally and implementing training regiment. And he holds team camps in Colorado.
