Tom Ryan Great Recruiter Shitty Coach?
pokemonster replied to PortaJohn's topic in College Wrestling
Turns out Knox was 1 pt shy of making the finals, so the kid had a great tourney. Bouzakis wasn't the only one upset by him. -
Just caught up on all the consolations... Nice work by Bouzakis coming back. Feldman looked to tweak his leg while almost getting TFed in the consi semis. Let's hope the injury isn't anything serious.
-
He's the definition of doing too much, haha.
-
Don't forget his insistence on calling a pin a "pinfall" every single time.
-
Great points, dude is gonna have a solid freaking education.
-
Shoot, missed the match. Can't find how to do the quad-screen for this tourney in FloArena this time.

DTs and Stieber's podcasts were great, especially if you grew up following Ohio wrestling at that time. The Palmers, Stiebers, Jordans, Jamie Clark, Sammie White, etc. were all incredible athletes. Interesting to see how both Logan and DT didn't think the grueling training mentality they went through is truly the right way to approach it, if anything due to the fact that they were the only 2 to get through it without serious career ending injuries. A lot of the other guys had similar resumes up through high school, but fell out due to either serious injuries (i.e. Collin Palmer) or burn-out. Fun time for Ohio wrestling, though. Also enjoyed DTs take on how Ohio wrestlers typically are worse on top / bottom going into college because the refs are so quick to call stalling there. Really does do those guys a disservice on the next level. Also, the fact that DT lost in OT to Jordan Oliver in middle school, then spent the rest of his years trying to follow him to tournaments to avenge that loss, was a funny take. Never did get to avenge it, but that would've been an awesome match to see back in the day.

Nick Bouzakis looking much more like what I expected in that second bout. Hopefully that first loss to Knox wasn't characteristic of his future bouts.

Terrible camera work by flo. Pretty much missed the takedown and the pin.

I wonder how Paddy vs Andonian went down in the Eds wrestling room. Based on rankings at the time, you'd think Paddy used to put it on him. Also, did Kharchla tech Mekhi in folk?

It's hard to believe that with all the PEDs going on throughout the world, that our guys can come out on top despite it. -

I'm not familiar with the Nike Oregon Project... Were they requiring their athletes to dope? Do you know what they were taking? -

Sounded like he was unsupervised as well. Pretty lame when parents hold their kids back just to be better than other kids, IMO, but not even having the kid repeat the grade and completely withdrawing him from school is wild to me. -

First you write pages blaming rape victims, now you're saying Africans should be thankful for the colonizers who oppressed them because they made their lives better? Something is not right in your head. -

Really good interview. Are parents allowed to just withdraw their kids from school, do no homeschooling, and just play sports for an entire year? Sounded like the sole goal of that entire year was to get an advantage at wrestling when he didn't even need it. Hopefully that's not a trend, lol. -
So here's an article on why it's being dismissed: https://www.stwnewspress.com/news/sexual-battery-case-dismissed-against-aj-ferrari/article_aaedc456-6493-11ee-be16-83d27698e540.html “The young woman who is at the center of this matter has endured in the last year vicious attacks on multiple forms of social media, continuing trauma, blame, harassment, ostracism and indirect threats to her career: a career she has just begun,” Thomas wrote in the motion to dismiss. “She has made the very difficult decision after consultation with her family that her further involvement is much less important than her health, a career that she loves and the ugliness and hatred that she encounters and suffers each time this matter progresses to the next step. The office of the District Attorney supports her decision to be relieved from this further participation in the prosecution of this case by dismissing this matter.” I wouldn't say it's a declaration of innocence by any means. Seems she's been harassed to the point where she felt it was no longer worth it.

Isn't the use of insider information illegal in Nevada? Just because people are unethical and cheating, doesn't mean the NCAA should open up their athletes to doing so. Are you saying if you woke up tomorrow and were the NCAA president, you'd decide to allow sports betting amongst college athletes? Seems like a monumental mistake to do so. You open the NCAA up to a ton of scrutiny for various reasons. Integrity of the game / institution, the fact that gambling generally goes against the mission of developing and safe-guarding student athletes, the fact it's a slippery slope for many many people and can lead to compromising games, the potential loss of trust in the games from fans, etc. It's simply in the NCAA's best interest to keep the rules as they are. Wanna gamble? Go gamble. You just can't do it as an NCAA athlete.

Should the Hawkeyes hire David Taylor as their HC?

Why did Cael want to be a coach instead of coasting through the rest of his life? Because they're extremely competitive individuals and want to win at the highest levels in a sport they've dedicated their entire lives to. Personally, I'd rather coast, but not sure these guys are built like that. -
What a complete moron for tweeting that out. No sympathy - if anybody on the team should know better, it's him. There are reasons athletes are barred from gambling on sports and if an athlete is dumb enough to jeopardize their entire career over a few quick bucks, then they deserve the punishment. For those of you saying it's too harsh, suspending him from a meaningless dual season where half the wrestlers sit out already is not a sufficient punishment. That'd be like Harbaugh's meaningless suspension.

2023 World Wrestling tournament...
pokemonster replied to D3 for LU's topic in International Wrestling
I completely agree it wasn't a fluke as well. I wonder how Sadulaev's coach plays into this - do you think he's going to help Sadulaev scheme against the youngin', or just let the guys figure it out on their own? -
Flo guys talked about this for a bit due to DT's interview saying he's the most dynamic and dominant ever (https://www.flowrestling.org/events/11049592-2023-senior-world-championships/videos?playing=11251509&limit=60), and Ben brought up that compared to 74 and 97kg, 86kg has been pretty weak. They mentioned outside Yazdani, the field basically rolls over and is most definitely worse than our domestic competition. I think that has some merit to it.
