  1. There are no wild cards in D2 or D3. You either place top three at your qualifier or your season is over. Henschel placed fifth at his weight.
  2. About an hour ago, I saw a clip of Bakersfield's 125 spiking the kid from Cal Poly on a mat return, then pinning him to qualify for Nationals along with AJ and their heavyweight. While the rest of his team was mat side in celebration for this kid, Ferrari stayed seated in the background. I found that odd and disheartening, especially in light of his recent statement (video in this thread) about his teammates.
  3. Let's talk about Caden Henschel not making it to Nationals this year. He was the top ranked kid at his weight almost all season long, and his coach has said that "[Henschel] is a great kid who does everything right." None of that means he belongs at Nationals this season, but it is a bummer to see his career end this way. I, for one, have enjoyed watching him compete, and I enjoy some of his content. He is a great for the sport, and it would have been great to see him make a run at a title. That and I am a fan of Nick Becker and what he does at UW-Parkside.
  4. I'm not sure if I completely understand what you're saying or asking, but if you click on Results, Team Results, a drop down with appear and you can choose the team you want. At that point, all that team's entries and results for that tournament will show up. Does that help?
  5. I had not kept up on that, and I am sorry to read that. I got the impression that he, while a competent coach, was merely arrogant and unlikeable, but little more than that. That really sucks that he his actions, in any shape or form, had such a negative impact on so many people.
  6. I wonder if the administration, seeing that Zeke is long in the tooth, so to speak, goes the Okie State route and makes a play at someone like Dake or Snyder. Mark Perry? It's clear he can coach, but can administrators and other coaches work with his ego? Here's a thought: Tervel Dlagnev? Also, does the program have anyone remotely resembling Art Mortori who could revive Sunkist Kids? Their demise clearly had a large, negative impact on the program.
  7. Yep, go to Events, Functions, Search, add in a date time frame and hit search. If you want it for a specific level, do those same things, but before you hit search, click on Advanced, then scroll to Age Level and choose your poison. Good luck searching!
  8. Regionalizing the tournament makes sense for small schools with small athletics budgets. It's important to remember that most of these schools are enrollment driven and most that recently added sports (including wrestling) did so to bring in tuition revenue. If a school has only 20 to 25 people on their roster, their team budget is going to be tiny, unless the coach can fund raise like no one else or the program is fully endowed, which very few are. One crazy aspect of D3 is that out of more than 130 programs at this time, only five of them are west of the line where Canada meets Minnesota on the western edge of the state, all the way down to Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. Of those five, Oregon has two on their west coast, and there isn't another one east of there until you hit eastern Nebraska. Check out this map: https://content.nwcaonline.com/where-to-wrestle-2/#/qbe/map For MOST results (Track and Flo will be merging platforms in the not-too-distant future), you can go here: https://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/seasons/index.jsp?TIM=1741116886512&twSessionId=sgwitzolqu - click on the season you want to review, find the team for which you want results, then play around in there.
  9. Amuchastegui Dziewiatkowski Older, but relevant.
  10. I'm intimately familiar with the D3 log jam in the two Midwest qualifiers, though I don't know how it shook out with the addition of the seventh one this year. Ranked teams in each D2 Super Region (per the most recent NWCA Coach's rankings) SR1 - 15, 16, 17 SR2 - 12, T18 SR3 - 5, 6, 8, 10, T13, 21 SR4 - 4, 7, 20, 22, T24 SR5 - 1, 2, 3, 9, 11, T24 SR6 - T13, T18, 23, T24 SR3 came on big this season when Glenville pulled a lot of transfers, and Simcoe at Grand Valley is building a nice, little program in Western Michigan to add to stalwarts West Liberty, Tiffin, Lake Erie, et al. SR4 is having a bit of an off year, but the usual suspects of UCO, McKendree, and UIndy are there, along with a resurging CMSU program, run by D2 legend Cody Garcia (with some help behind the scenes from wrestling legend Mike Denney). SR5 is SR5... that is THE meat grinder of D2 year over year.
  11. Does this guy walk around with a flamethrower on his back and matches in his pockets? Be better, man.
  12. Two-time finalist and 2023 National Champ from Glenville State, Gavin Quiocho, wasn't in the line-up this past weekend. His coach, former WVU NQ Dylan Cottrell, claimed that he struggled to make 133 AND that he lost wrestle-offs to the 141 who took sixth at Super Region III. UW-Parkside took it on the chin from 133 to 157. Then again, that SR might be the toughest in D2, if not the second toughest. Coach Becker has to be feeling the results this morning. New Jersey's brand new program, Felician, qualified two to the tournament. Congrats! American International had their final qualifier this year at 157. Sad to see the program fold. University of Nebraska-Kearney had a GREAT second half of the season and look mighty strong heading into Nationals. Can three-time finalist and 2024 National Champ at 197, Derek Blubaugh from University of Indianapolis, make a fourth finals? First, it was Abney from Central Oklahoma who had his number, and now it may be Logan Kvien of McKendree. Either way, Blubaugh is a monster and a great kid to boot. Congratulations to the 50 teams that qualified at least one guy to the tournament in two weekends! With six-plus teams coming to D2 in the next few seasons, the NCAA might want to look at the structure of the Super Regions. You now have three really strong ones and three SRs which aren't as competitive. The coaches want the BEST kids at the tournament, just like in D1, and not just regional representation.
  13. Is there a link to why that decision was made?
  14. Man... I knew something wasn't adding up when the news was reporting a high profile, ethnic Chechen died in Moscow from natural causes. This really sucks, as he was (mostly) great for this sport.
  15. What's Sidakov up to these days? Bring him in for a run. How about a match for Makhachev? That would be a big draw to an event like this, not to mention that it might address the never-ending debate from combat sports fans if MMA athletes can compete on high levels of specific sports which are foundational to MMA.
  16. George Washington
  17. My first thought was that Wade Schalles has laid claim to this distinction for ages now.
  18. I've long liked the method of weights staying as close as possible to NCAA weights, but with a (very) little room for growth. 57 kilos = 125.7 pounds 61 kilos = 134.5 pounds 64 kilos = 141.1 pounds 68 kilos = 149.9 pounds 72 kilos = 158.7 pounds 75 kilos = 165.3 pounds 79 kilos = 174.2 pounds 84 kilos = 185.2 pounds 90 kilos = 198.4 pounds 102 kilos = 224.9 pounds 125 kilos = 275.6 pounds I tossed an eleventh weight in there for more opportunity. I know it will never happen.
  19. I'm going to go with "no." That would have been right about the time I hit my major high school growth spurt. Defying biology wasn't great at that age.
  20. A few good articles, one by @JohnnyThompsonNum1 http://johnnythompsonnum1.blogspot.com/2020/03/gone-lost-forgotten-their-best-notre.html https://notredameclassof1969blog.blogspot.com/2018/10/1965-69-four-notre-dame-varsity.html https://www.nytimes.com/1992/04/11/sports/wrestling-stopped-at-notre-dame.html
  21. JB and Reece for announcers in 2028. That's one hell of a duo.
