I thought IMar said earlier that he wasn't done, but I didn't know about his shoulder. That's tough. Also tough to catch shade from Cormier about your weight.
Do you think Nagao could get squeezed out of the lineup? I expect Davis to fill out in the offseason and have no idea if 133 is a hard cut for Nagao. He looks pretty big for the weight.
My guess is that DT's probably on the same wavelength as Askren where he can make good money and do interesting work outside of the restrictions of the NCAA and NIL. He also be a package deal with Jimmy Kennedy.
Unknown, because there was no media deal inked when they left. The current offer on the table was around $25mil per year per school but the Pac schools (except USC and UCLA who already bolted) thought they could do better.
IIRC UW and UO are getting $30mil/year for the next 6 years from the B1G's media deal. Stanford and Cal's distribution will be around $7-10mil/year for the next 7 years from the ACC. That number might change for the better or worse though with all the drama going on with FSU and Clemson.
USC is going to rake in over 100mil clams a year from the B1G with the new tv deal. Stanford was just desperate after the other Pac schools jumped ship and accepted a terrible offer, and now the non-revenue sports will have to live with the consequences. It also sucks for the ACC non-revenue sports that will have to travel to and from California.
Brutal. Didn't Stanford (and Cal) accept a 30% payout from the ACC for the first 7 years (then gradually stepping up to 100% by year 10) in their desperate attempt to join? I think the AD committed to not cutting any sports, so hopefully they can make the numbers work. Thankfully they have that phat endowment.
It would be nice if Stanford could reaffiliate with the Pac for wrestling. It would save the ACC programs a little bit of money, too. WIn win.
The process of rebuilding the neural pathways to his leg is wild. Ryan said Sammy's been learning to wrestle with mostly one leg until the other one is rehabbed
RBY wrestled as a true freshman and exhausted his eligibility. He made a big dramatic announcement his senior year about returning for a final season and wrestled a half ass schedule before lostng to Vito at NCAAs last year.
For the current PSU seniors with eligibility left, NIL $$$ might tip the scales in favor of them staying. I'm under the impression that they make some decent coin, likely more than they'd make if they left. Barlett was in national ad campaigns for Gatorade and had a deal with a restaurant chain; Starocci and Brooks had a deal with a Healthcare network. And son on.
Caitlin Clark has demonstrated the value of NIL sponsorships to companies and brands. She's making around $3mil (estimated) this season and may have opened the doors athletes outside of football & basketball to receive more or better likeness deals. If a wrestler could make just 2% of what she brings in, it would be well worth their while to extend eligibility.
