He may have been a yappy little Chihuahua, but he was our yappy little Chihuahua...

My alma mater (and I assume most schools) have their NIL slush fund setup as tax exempt 501c3 not-for-profits, which softens the impact for those who pitch into the collective when their own finances go south. Donors can still setup their own individual NIL sponsorships, but the collectives comprise a disproportionate share of the funding pool. The IRS or congress may revoke the NIL tax exempt status if that isn't a process that's already in motion.

Bo Bassett Narrows His College List..........From 80 to 73
CHROMEBIRD replied to RandolphTJones's topic in College Wrestling
I thought you were a Lehigh guy? Was that grad school? Anyway long ago I was in Philly for a work training thing and a group of us were making small talk before the session started. The instructor, a local Philadelphian, was trying to convince the out of towners that the city was safe and goes, "all right, let's prove this out: has anyone here ever been mugged in Philly? Raise your hand if so." And just one guy raised his hand. Instructor nods with a smug look on his face. Then someone in the crowd goes, "OK, but has anyone here ever broken out into A FULL-BLOWN SPRINT because you were about to get mugged? Raise your hand if so." And a whole bunch of hands shot up. Lol. The instructor's response? "Yeah? Well, at least we aren't in Camden!" -
It's not hard to image the ways a coach could thwart an NIL deal, either directly or indirectly. I don't really understand why Taylor would NOT want to bring Ayala on board, though. Seems like there's room in the lineup for him. Was it a personality or team chemistry issue? Didn't want the package deal with Dru? Banking the NIL funds for a bigger get? What's the story there

Bo Bassett Narrows His College List..........From 80 to 73

That's pretty wild. How many other 16 year old amateur athletes out there have their own branded product? I can't think of any off the top of my head. Does this deal nudge Bassett closer to tOSU? -
Whatever you do, don't say his dad's name 3 times

I'm not sure where the med school stuff is from, but last I saw, Woods wanted to be an DO, not an MD. MSU has an osteopathic medicine program so maybe he wants the best of both worlds with a DO degree from MSU while training at CKWC? It would be a huge pain in the ass, but doable. He grew up in an age where kids would travel long and far several times a week to go work out and train with the best.

He should be a luchador. El Gebel Esteveson!

What is next for everyone at Sunkist
CHROMEBIRD replied to juniorvarsity's topic in International Wrestling
Yeah, it's kind of odd that they named the RTC Atreus instead of something that might you know, borrow from ASU's brand equity while also boosting it. Why not Sun Devils WC? The same goes for Rising Sun WC, which also trains out of the ASU room. I get the logic behind the name, but it also sounds like it's related to Japan? Or located somewhere out east? -
I see what Askren is saying, but a big shitty aspect in this age of NIL and transfer portal craziness is that coaches have to re-recruit their existing athletes every year. What's to keep a kid from enrolling at Iowa, getting great results, and then saying "hey, I have an offer to compete at another school. How much will you all pay me to stay?" Sad to see it in college sports, but it is what it is.

Day number # of CSUB not kicking out Aj Ferrari
CHROMEBIRD replied to CowboyYe2024's topic in College Wrestling
Is Bakersfield the type of place where a kid could get into a lot of mischief? I am under the impression that CSUB is a commuter school, not much party atmosphere but maybe quiet enough to go looking for trouble around town. -
Master's degree is the norm, but you can grad transfer into any post-bacc program, like a professional or grad certificate programs, once you have your undergraduate degree. The NCAA also had a rule that athletes could only transfer if the program isn't offered at their previous school, but I don't think that's still the case. The grad transfer option is definitely abused, esp in D1 basketball and football, but overall makes life better for athletes and schools than worse.

Maybe he wants to hang with his bro Rags? Also not too shabby of a room to train at. Gomez, Pantaleo, Lewan, Saldate, Lemley, Rags, Futrell? (idk)... learn from Sergei and KJ...

Real Woods to Cliff Keen
CHROMEBIRD replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in International Wrestling
I think he only started competing at the Senior level last year. Won silver at a ranking series tournament at 65kg. Before that, he won silver at Junior Pan Ams. Dunno what else. -

Having either 1 more year or 4 more years remaining is so on brand for Ferrari -
Real Woods to Cliff Keen

It might've been more surprising that he transferred to Iowa while he was in college. Didn't he go to hs with Rags and Lewan? It sounds like he'll have some pretty good training partners at CKWC too. -
Rei Higuchi's comment on weight changes
CHROMEBIRD replied to Mr. PeanutButter's topic in International Wrestling
Flipping your proposal also works. Tweak the NCAA weights to follow the UWW weights. They're already pretty close, though we all know that the extra pound or two feels like a huge difference when cutting weight 126 135 141 150 159 165 174 185 198 276 -
Would be a fun match, but it sounds like a hassle for Sadz who need not prove anything to us

Dude is up to his ears in eligibility -
Thanks. Solid list so far. What's Yianni's status? I'd like to see him keep competing if he's able to, but also wonder if it could clear a path for Vito to grow into 65kg in this upcoming cycle.

Remind me, what is his eligibility situation looking like? 2021: Year 1 (true freshman) 2022: car accident, then dismissed - MRS? 2023: ORS? 2024: RS? Did he get a medical waiver for the '22 season before he was kicked off the team? -
Any word on an entry list or who's in or out? Burroughs yes, Nolf no, who else?
