  1. Minnow is that one dopey guy you'd see around in college who would literally ask every single girl if they wanted to hook up, get slapped a few hundred times, but loudly declare victory the one or two times it actually worked
  2. Flip it around. King of the portal will be the wrestler who ends up with the best deal, degree, and NCAA hardware.
  3. Brings back memories. I'd scarf down tons of sugar-free Jello when cutting weight. It was a godsend.
  4. It's going to get worse. Conferences and programs are already entertaining pitches from venture capital and private equity firms. Up front cash in exchange for an off the books loan and/or equity interest, which is a little bit of a red flag. Big 12 is particularly aggressive about this because Yormark wants his conference to keep up with the big boys. B1G is working with Evercore and taking preliminary bids from institutional funds/PE in advance of the House settlement. https://forbes.com/sites/joemoglia/2025/04/02/private-equitys-next-big-shopping-spree-college-football/
  5. Is Rin not adjusting to folkstyle?
  6. Remember, non-P5 teams have until June 15 to confirm whether they're opting-in or backing out. Some of the non-power conference teams on the OP's list are a little surprising, though. Unless there's some deep pocketed booster pushing the athletic department around, I can't imagine that revenue sharing will be worth the tiem or effort for FCS programs like Morgan State, Sacred Heart, Davidson, and Mercyhurst (currently transitioning from D2?). They'll all end up being feeder schools on the wrong end of the transfer portal, and I can't imagine they'd have the staffing or resources to deal with whatever overhead comes with revenue sharing. At least the math makes a little more sense for schools like Drexel, Hofstra, and George Mason who don't have football. But still.
  7. I figured it was just due to normal rotation and attrition. On the women's side, Icho and Yoshida held their spots for a long time but now returning medalists move on because they're stacked with younger talent.
  8. Amazing. Also, Koll & the UNC staff at dinner last night:
  9. Maybe the UNC staff tried to sell him on the THWC but he heard THC and signed right away
  10. Wondering more along the lines of whether it could've been an old football injury or a wrestling injury. Recovery in time for next season?
  11. Correction to my previous post, NIL deals coming from boosters and similar collectives could be prohibited. It depends on what happens on Monday's House settlement hearing. It looks like the P4 conferences are creating its own LLC and proposing that it be the entity that enforces NIL, salary cap, and investigations within its own subdivision of the NCAA. Under their proposal, collectives would have strict limits for NIL deals. Everything is still up in the air though, and many seem to doubt that the judge will approve terms of the settlement on Monday. So who knows.
  12. What exactly was the medical issue with his hip?
  13. Nothing a few backyard vodka shots wouldn't fix
  14. Btw, I just noticed that Hoke is no longer listed on the WVU roster. Did he transfer?
  15. You just described a cult, but okay.
  16. Looking forward to seeing Ramos coach Terukina up
  17. I'm going to be so pissed if Ryder was poached away with a bag and PSU ended up saving money because Welsh doesn't care about getting paid
  18. I think Sam Cartella (NU) is underrated and would be a strong addition to any team, though I hope he stays put. Also, I thought there were rumors that Stevo Poulin would transfer. Is his name in the portal or nah?
  19. Welsh is exceptionally good at dodging wrenches, and if you can dodge a wrench...
  20. 285 looks fine. I like Pindrickson, but if he and Gable were to wrestle another folkstyle match I would probably put my money on Steveson. Part of the hangup with rankings is that for some they are a recognition for athletic performance throughout some period of time; other rankings recognize performance and are meant to be predictive of future performance; others are something else. Happens all the time, even in other sports. Look at all the fussing over the CFP rankings, for example.
  21. It's assumed that programs will setup their own NIL deals with athletes if the House settlement is finalized as planned. Most departments are already making anticipatory moves and signing MOUs with recruits now. Third-party collectives and direct sponsorship NIL can continue to co-exist with the new framework. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6197275/2025/03/14/college-football-transfer-portal-nil-contract-buyout-clauses/ Also, about getting details of NIL transactions out in the open: there are pending bills in congress right now that include reporting of NIL deals (among other reforms), sanitized of personal information, to provide athletes with a better idea of their fair market value. Agents are now becoming a thing in college sports, and since none of this is well-regulated with little to no uniformity, a lot of kids are expect outrageous numbers and end up signing predatory deals disguised as high-interest loans, or that take a cut of the athletes future pro salary, and who knows what else.
  22. Also, this year's tournament was the third highest NCAA wrestling championship finals ratings over the last 15 years. The broadcasts with the highest ratings are the 2013 (highest) and 2017 (2nd highest) finals. 2013 was the year Dake bumped up to challenge Taylor. Anyone know what drew viewership in 2017? That was the year Zain - Nolf - Cenzo - Hall - Nickal all won titles, but I'm not sure if that people tuned-in for that. Was because of Snyder winning the Olympics?
  23. Thanks for sharing this. A 70%+ bump from last year is great, especially when ESPN has started to promote WBB harder since the Caitlin Clark hype (and because they have broadcast rights). Maybe not surprising, but the 18-49 and 25-54 y/o segments are just about a third of the overall (P2+) viewership. If the demo of this board is any indication, I am guessing the numbers skew older.
  24. Oh, I thought maybe you had some juicy deets
