We all know the definition. Turns out, it is part of the English language and can be referenced in the dictionary!

Assault rifles, to both questions
-
It is because they were quickly fired and charged.
-
I have already said I don't want to ban guns, just weapons of war. Neither of those cases are related to the discussion at hand. I am asking a pointed question, be courteous and throw out an answer.
-
I want to know what y'all's rights are!! People had a right to muskets back in the day because those were arms. Now we have nuclear arms, chemical arms, warthogs that fire lord knows what. What are you entitled to bear and what arent you entitled to bear?

What is a military class of weapons inappropriate for civilians?
-
I am interested in what class of weapons you feel is appropriate for civilians to possess vs what the military has in its arsenal. Does it stop at assault rifles? Extend to fully automatic weapons? Projectiles of any rate of fire and energy delivered? Missiles? Edit: as for which side will be upset: I don't believe school shootings will be tolerated forever. At some point, one will be so hideous that even moderate republicans will be appalled and drastic gun control will happen.

I am at work.

If a class of guns is designed by the military to be an offensive weapon, it is an assault rifle. Of course they increase the efficiency of killing people. That is their sole purpose. In the las Vegas concert shooting, a more than 60 year old man with little gun experience and zero military experience killed 59 people in under 90 seconds. IDK what to do about all guns. I know if there aren't some creative solutions put forth by all sides, one side in particular is going to be extremely unhinged sooner rather than later. I don't understand how a predictable event can be characterized as shocking. We all know it is going to happen, we just don't know when and where. How is it shocking when the bell tolls for rural KY rather than suburban MSP? The 25th anniversary of Columbine is upon us and we have not made a single change that will get our society past this. Nothing!! Endless crocodile tears, thoughts and prayers.

All words and phrases are "made up". It is the nature of language. The dictionary has a definition. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/assault rifle 18 is a tweener and is too young for guns.

There is no solution, much less mine. I do not want to ban guns entirely. Assault rifles, yes I want them removed from civilian society. We need barriers to ownership that a casual or irresponsible user won't or can't go through - safety, knowledge, responsibility, certification, mental health evaluation. Red flag laws. Sanity in the type of gun sold and owned. Minimum of 21. Federal laws that supercede state laws. Verifiable storage requirements. Out of curiosity, anybody know what is required to shoot the first round in the military? Training? Certification?

It means that we agree on limitations of weapons in society - that the government is better armed than civilians. I think weapons of war do not belong in the hands of civilians. It is not the inanimate object to blame for school shootings. It is the inevitable, invariable fact that they wind up in the hands of people who use them to kill innocents and subsequently reshape our society into a bastardization of itself. With regard to normalization - you are lying to yourself if say you are shocked when 10 kids are murdered in school. We all know it is going happen again and again.
-
I assume you have a weapon or weapon class that militaries can have and civilians cannot. At a minimum, nuclear weapons. My weapon class is different than yours, I think. When did emotions stop driving societies? Why should it? Freedom is emotion. Free will is just pursuit of emotions People don't want to live in fear. Living life in a cage, with three armed guards, one way in, one way out. It is awful. One of the worst things about this epidemic is that we are becoming anesthetized and the shootings are normalized. Columbine shocked the entire planet. Leaders and people from around the world sent thoughts, prayers and condolences. For weeks. Now, we are not even surprised much less shocked. The rest of the world laughs and points out the one thing that distinguishes us.

Agreed, it is extremely complex. Mental health issues, rampant narcissism, the founding fathers having muskets and HS students have AR15s. The discussion is boiling down to whether there is a gun problem in areas that don't often experience gun violence. I say yes and offer an absurdly obvious example. Now waiting for the comparison of heart disease and school shootings......
-
My point is that school shootings are not rare. One is too many. The US has had hundreds of them. Each and every one perpetrated with a gun. That IS a problem with guns.
-
This is a silly discussion, to be honest. Without even mentioning the unique horror involved, school shootings alone produce more gun violence numbers than most of our peers and few of those happen in urban areas.
-
Gun violence
-
Those counties can't do anything about the guns. The rest of country thinks it is their problem alone.
-
Gawd I hate state Penn.
-
Guns are a problem everywhere. You are wasting your time if you lock your door in Newtown, CT. Columbine is in a nice, leafy suburb. Gun violence is different from all of the things you mentioned because they enable the barbarism. They enable terrorism. They are viciously, violently and lethally imposed on others. There is outrage over irresponsible driving. Compared drinking and driving now to 30-40 years ago.
-
It is barbaric and unacceptable.

Manafort provided proof when he acknowledged sharing data with Russia in an interview.

What do you all think about Bidens "renters bill of rights"
Plasmodium replied to mspart's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
My point about real estate being socialist is that every square inch of real estate in the USA is owned by government. This is accomplished through leasing(euphemism is involuntary taxation) and outright ownership. Real estate is also very tightly regulated(zoning and ordinances) and regularly executes involuntary seizure(eminent domain). This is the textbook definition of socialism. It works very well. -
