If you got out of your own way, you might start to understand why kids want to go there. Being an all american or an accolade doesnt define you as a pesron. Fans love it and cant understand the mentality because for most of them, being an all american, would be life defining. Listen to interviews with PSU wrestlers and coaches. Its about being the best version of yourself, growth and what lies ahead in life. Most cant recall who was an all american from year to year. If the true goal is to be a national champ, then psu is the place to be. If you can beat the returner or upcomer in the room, then your on your way. If you tranfer because you cant, then your walking away from the best to get beat by them down the road. If being an all american is your dream, then transferring would make sense. The type of guys in that room and the ones that want to go there are not built that way. The Tom Ryan story of going to Iowa is an example of this mentality.

Folks that are making accusations about steroid use do not understand what happens to the body when you manage weight. As soon as you change diet to grow, and lift to grow, it doesnt take long to add on. You can do the experiment yourself. Lean way out and starve your body. Then switch to a high protein caloric intake with lifting. Granted, 18-25 yr olds will have better results

They need to hold that standard to themselves. If trends continue, they will be out of the top 5 annually. I think they will get 5th again. UNI and Iowa State are better options if you want to be a National champion. The hawkeyes are wrestling so tight and stressed and fear failing more than wrestling free and scoring points.

Woods (4th) and Eireman (DNP) placed lower their last year.

The coaching staff needs to be revamped. They hold a standard for their wrestlers but not themselves. Instead of developing, they get frustrated at their guys and go buy a replacement. They need to hold that standard to themselves.

They knew those guys were out prior to the season starting. They bought some talent to replace. As the season progresses, teams make adjustments pertaining to injuries and performance. At the end of the day, Iowa had a second place team in the room. They opted not to run that team out. It could happen again. So does the individual matter more than the team placement to donors/coaches?

Last year, they kept the shirt on Arnold and it quite possibly was the factor in the 5th place finish. If Arnold wrestles, they take second. Do the donors/coaches care about the individual more than team placement? It could happen again this year with keeping Ferrari sidelined. The Hawkeyes are vulnerable at 125, 141, 157, 174, 184 and HWT, At best, they get two AA from those weight. At worst, if they perform like they normally do at NCAA's, none. OK state, NEB and Cornell could easily place ahead.
