Here we go again. China will NEVER compete against any athlete representing "Taiwan". Taiwanese athletes compete internationally under the name "Chinese Taipei". Perhaps if Israeli athletes competed under the name "Palestine", Iran would be willing to compete with them!
-
Iran supports the establishment of a Palestinian State and views Israel as an illegitimate state. In truth, the Iranians have said that if Israel and Palestine can reach an agreement that satisfies the Palestinian people, Iran too would accept the deal. The issue, often portrayed by western people with an agenda, is often framed as Iran not being willing to wrestle Jews, as Iran seeking the destruction of Israel. Does that surprise you? If it does, you know little about propaganda, media, government and geo-politics. Perhaps you should also be aware of the fact that outside of Israel, the biggest Jewish population in the region lives in Iran, an ancient people. They repeatedly refuse the money offered by Israel to move to Israel, saying that they are proud Iranian Jews. They have a dedicated representative in the Iranian legislature, and in Iran, where the government pays for students to attend religious instruction, the Jewish students are bussed to receive religious instruction from a Rabbi.

Another ignorant clown comment!! Unbelievable! You should be ashamed of yourself, troll. The truth is that Iranians will not wrestle Israelis in international competition. Iranians WILL wrestle Jews, just not those from Israel. Other Islamic countries wrestle Israelis and Jews from other countries. You should stop commenting on things that you are ignorant of!

I liked Bo Nickal after he pinned Miles Martin. "That's what we do at Penn State! If you want to win NCAA championships, come to Penn State." Best recruitment ad in the universe.

And you think that arrogance is going to help him beat DT? -

It hasn't gotten him onto a US freestyle team. Let's see how he does trying to represent the US at 74kg. -

That certainly is cringeworthy. His brand of Christianity has no tolerance for other faiths, even other denominations (Catholicism) in Christianity. He should NEVER make public statements like that. Someone needs to talk to him, especially if he plans to wrestle Senior Men's Freestyle. That statement is not going to fly with open minded Christians. Thou shalt not judge. -

Listen to his interviews. God has given him the platform to spread his message. I think he believes that God helps him to train, stay healthy, and live right. He certainly doesn't think that God favors him over other wrestlers. I feel a bit uncomfortable listening to him, and for once Jimmy is right; Brooks should become a pastor or minister. It seems like he wants to bring people to the Lord. He's a hammer of a wrestler, that's for sure. To be honest, I'm much more upset when I see Starrocci's interviews. In the post semi-final interview, a reporter asked him about what it's like wrestling guys who keep it close. Instead of answering the question, Star took a very aggressive attitude and asked "Which of my matches here have been close?" He displays too much arrogance, as if he believes that this is necessary to be great. He will learn some humility when he wrestles Senior Men's freestyle. -

Good question. A better question might be: what holes are the guys being poached going to fill next year? It's not like they haven't been reloading all along with a strong recruitment program. Cael and co. certainly aren't desperate. -

I don't know, dude. Look at the performers this year: the finalists RBY, Haines, Starrocci, and Brooks ALL started their collegiate careers at PSU. Kerk came over from the Ohio State U when Snyder moved to NLWC, so I don't consider that an outright poach. Bartlett and SVN, both third place finishers, also were recruited before freshman year. Not so much poaching, besides Dean. -

What's wrong with you? Can someone put a muffler on this guy? -

You're absolutely right about Nolf. He WASN'T showing the flashy moves his freshman year. Haines is a monster, and if he comes back at 165 he will be at the top of the weight class with a few other guys. His developmental potential as a 19 year old, both in strength and in skills, combined with his chop wood, carry water attitude towards training, will see him making the MOST improvement of any 165 pounder. "People" saying Haines is not special are still disgruntled about the epic fail of their "got it in the bag GOAT" and the disintegration of the Iowa team, fighting it out for second place, light years behind PSU. Sour grapes indeed. -

Utter bollocks, as my Brit friends say! Haines is just good?? He's not special?? After what you've seen in B1G and NCCAs? -
McGee really brought it in the match with RBY, didn't he? Super impressed.

The worst thing about this is the effect it will have on Spencer Lee himself. Unwilling or unable to face the wrestling public, he forfeits out. Unwilling or unable to compete for third place, he turns his back on the Iowa squad, which he has constantly cited as his reason for wanting to win it all. Psychological problems could be avoided by putting on the singlet and wrestling in the consis. This is called moving on with life. Forfeiting out is the wrong thing to do; it allows the loss to fester and calcify. Spencer should have chosen to wrestle to cleanse it and himself.

Please see the following thread: Where does 1,1,1,6 rank among 3Xers?
-
No, he's not the GOAT. It's past time for the Hawkeye fans to recognize that what Tom Brands said about Spencer Lee being the best wrestler of all time was MOTOVATIONAL. Spencer Lee is a fantastic wrestler, a beast, a hammer; everyone knows this, and nobody denies it. He is NOT the GOAT, not at the NCAA level and certainly not at the global level in men's freestyle. I hope he finishes the tournament and gets third in his usual dominating fashion. It will help him get over this loss. I hope his knees are strong enough to wrestle for the 57kg spot on the US team. I believe that if he's healthy, he has a good shot at it. Rest well, Spencer. Life is long, and in the scheme of things, this is a big bump that you will recover and bounce back from.

Was Haines pinned? Was Andonian pinned?
Pa in Taiwan replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Andonian did NOT want to wrestle that third period. This is the problem with getting up 6-0 early and then thinking that you can ride your lead to victory. NEVER stop wrestling to score points. Andonian became completely passive sometime in the middle of the second period, hoping that he could hang on and win. Big mistake. Haines is fit; he learned to chop wood and carry water from Nick Lee and David Taylor. He will continue coming. -
And the long straps of the harnesses are connected to the pulleys of a mechanism under control of the refs, one that will pull the coaches three to five feet backwards when the refs hit a special button. Button can be used repeatedly if the coach steps on the mat. It would be a joy to watch some of these guys getting yanked back 6 or 10 feet when they get too noisy and aggressive.
-
This seems reasonable. I'm wondering how Spencer Lee is going to put together three wins over quality opponents all on the same day. I will NOT be surprised to see him lose this year. I agree that he is one of the most dominant wrestlers in NCAA wrestling today, but when you shut down after one period the way he did against McKee, people start to wonder. How would he fare in the next match in a tournament? Lee can make all the excuses they want, and whine that McKee didn't score any takedowns, but the third period I just watched had one wrestler creating offense, and it wasn't Spencer Lee. My God, he was staggering. I'm amazed he wasn't dinged for stalling! The earlier comment about Gilman resonates. Thomas Gilman DESTROYS this Spencer Lee.

Spencer - get standing O at Penn State?
Pa in Taiwan replied to Dark Energy's topic in College Wrestling
Listen to the beginning of the video, where Taylor quickly secures his first takedown. "The last two matches, 33-2 in favor of Taylor, two technical falls." The applause you heard was for Moore. He avoided the technical fall. -
And as for Tom Brands and his rating of Spencer Lee, I just wanted to tell LJB that I have both Uguev and Idrisov putting a beating on Spencer Lee.
-
I see Iranians in the brackets. Perhaps not the top guys, but they still represent the country.
