  1. So I'm a PSU fan, originally from just an hour south of Allentown / Bethlehem on Route 100. I like watching some Lehigh matches, but the Nittany Lions are my team. I just can't understand how there's a post on this forum on Christian Pyles and his farting on a video, but there's bupkis about the nailbiter of a dual between Lehigh and Cornell. Excellent dual, with a few take aways. First, Crookham is a beast, and I won't be surprised if he takes 133 as a freshman. Second, Shapiro is excellent, but he's overrated. I don't see him making the finals, but I think he will AA. Third, Foca is a VERY offensive wrestler, and he could go very far this year. Fourth, Beard is wrestling tough, and if he can stay consistent, he will be a threat at 197. Finally, what an excellent EIWA dual!
  2. Yes you can The jewel has facets, and it is possible that many religions are moderately true. Name that book. Then go buy a copy for yourself...and send one copy to Aaron Brooks. Brooks is 23. He will mature and gain a deeper understanding of God, humanity and this world that we live in.
  3. Thank you for posting your video. It's wonderful. I loved it, as I love the Alistair Sims version of A Christmas Carol dearly. Your video is quite enlightening, providing a cool analysis of the beginning of the story, the background story of Laura Bridgeman and Dickens' writing about her. Very nice. One small quibble: I would avoid words like ridiculous when discussing this serious piece of literature that is everything that you so clearly expressed; it is a call to the reader to improve himself, and to do good in the world. It reminds me of some of the writings of Leo Tolstoy, who in one of his autobiographies lays out what he sees as our duty and responsibility as humans: to take this journey and make it one in which we improve incrementally, doing more good for others in the world. Merry Christmas to you and everyone. God bless us, everyone.
  4. B..b..b..but he's Russian. And on this forum that means he's a lying, doping, evil, Putin-supporting propagandist. Actually, it's quite disgusting, some of the disrespect that we see here. Whether it's Sadulaev, before this tournament recognized as the greatest active freestyle wrestler, suddenly accused of or considered a propagandist, or Tadhudinov, the world champion, an obviously excellent technical wrestler with unbelievable fluidity in movement, tall and strong but certainly NOT musclebound, being accused of doping and looking like Boltukaev. What's wrong with people? I mean, the Iranian fans accept losses, and show great respect for David Taylor, have always loved JB. Why can't you just accept that our guy lost and maybe on that given day their guy was the better wrestler?
  5. Taylor and Dake were committed to continuing their amateur wrestling careers. They kept at it, even when JB was beating them. They had firm goals that they single-mindedly pursued. This is what cultivates greatness. You are too focused on early results. Dake and Taylor didn't get the results in their early freestyle years after finishing the NCAA careers, but can you argue that they haven't done well? Gable Steveson won the Olympics the same year he won NCAAs. He missed Worlds that year, and then, after demolishing the domestic field at hwt. and taking the spot in 2023, he dropped out of Worlds again. This is a pronounced lack of stability. I don't know what's going on in the young man's life, so I will not go so far as to say it's a lack of integrity. There may be issues that I am unaware of. One thing is for sure. He's not stable, as he qualified for Worlds and dropped out. Dake and Taylor have NEVER done that, and they never would.
  6. Ross graduates high school in 2026. Perfect timing. He should keep wrestling freestyle tournaments. He has the height and will continue to develop strength.
  7. Looking to the future, my friend. By the way, there was another guy keeping him from gold or silver this year. That guy also took out "the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the world". The changing of the guard. It always comes. Kyle Snyder will rep the USA in the Olympics in 2024. In 2028?
  8. Exactly. Now I'm a PSU homer, but Ben Keuter immediately popped into my head. If he made some jumps in his wrestling ability, especially freestyle, and kept his weight close, he is the kind of guy who could do it.
  9. Maybe some tall and strong light heavyweight in the 230 to 240 range will drop to 97kg.
  10. Captain America would be the first to admit that winning a bronze at Worlds through a forfeit isn't the performance he was looking for. Performing would be winning the golds that he won so many times when he was younger. I know that Kyle Snyder is one of the great American wrestlers. I'm wondering if we have any young guys who will rise and challenge. How can you not wonder about this, especially in light of Tazhudinov and his dethroning of Sadulaev. Where is our Taz?
  11. At this point, Japan has 5 World Champions and two wrestlers vying for Gold. If these two succeed, Japan will have gold in 7 out of 10 weight classes. Even without these two golds, this is dominance. Congratulations to the Japanese Women's Freestyle Team. They are hammers!
  12. Everyone calls either Snyder or Cox for the Olympics at 97kg. for the US. Fair enough. My curiosity is piqued, though. Who is going to come up and challenge these guys in the next cycle? To be honest, we just aren't performing at 97kg. internationally. Yes, Kyle Snyder won Worlds in 2022, when Sadulaev wasn't there. Now Sadulaev isn't even the man any more. Do we have any serious young challengers for the weight?Does the lack of a 220 pound weight class in NCAA wrestling make it more difficult to develop talent for 97kg. It seems that the jump from 197 to heavyweight makes guys from the former too light for 97kg and the latter too heavy. Can a guy like Aaron Brooks wrestle 97kg? He seems too small. He probably makes 86kg pretty easily. Names please.
  13. Because he's been such a stable competitor in Senior Men's Freestyle for the US, right? Let's give him a new nickname "Stable Gable." It doesn't seem to fit.
  14. The issue is not Iowa. The issue is that DT has a life that he loves in State College, Pa. This includes a family that is well settled in the area, two profitable businesses, and a list of friends that includes many of the great wrestlers in the nation and the world. I don't see him leaving for ANY head coach job ANYWHERE. He will slot in at PSU when the time comes.
  15. Only about half a million people now speak Aramaic. Since the Middle Ages it has largely been replaced by Arabic, but it survived as a spoken language in a number of Jewish communities in the mountainous regions of northern Iraq, south-east Turkey and western Iran down to modern times.
  16. I'm in Taiwan. Everything on the UWW website used to be free. Now I cannot watch the live matches without a subscription. They want money. 4 Euros for a 24-hour pass. 13 Euros for the World Championship pass, which is good for 20 days, all videos including live, highlights and behind the scenes.
  17. I count 5 former NCAA wrestlers in the brackets at 65kg. Who will make deep inroads into the bracket? Will this trend intensify in the future? Nick Lee (USA) Austin Gomez (Mexico) Colin Realbuto (Italy) J. Finesilver (Israel) S. Rivera (Puerto Rico)
  18. Whose road is tougher, Dake's or Sidakov's? Dake has Evloev from Tajikistan, and then he may face Kaipanov, from Kazakhstan. Quarters could be against Frank Chamizo, if he can navigate his own tough road. Semis will be against Salkazanov or Kadimagomedov. If Sidakov makes the finals, Dake will see him there. To make those finals, Sidakov will start with Kentchadze from Georgia, then Bekzod Abdurakhmonov, a NLWC hammer. After that it will be Emamichoghaei from Iran in the 1/8 final, and the quarters will be Amine or Olonbayer from Mongolia. I don't know who will reach the semis from the top of the top bracket, perhaps Demirtas (Turkey) or Bayramov (AZE). If he can handle that road, he will see Dake in the finals. What a weight class!
  19. Are the Russians even being considered a squad? I don't think there will be team implications.
  20. No. I want to see Vito actually beat the other tough wrestlers, not get by because they forfeit. Ogawa will give Atrinagharchi (Iran) a tough match. Let's focus on one match at a time. Iliev (Bulgaria) is the only thing Vito should focus on right now. He's no pushover.
  21. I haven't seen any quotes from the actual wrestlers, but I would guess that Dake and Nolf DON'T roll very often in the room. In the recently released video of Taylor, they talk about how Taylor rolls with Dake in the room. I'm not sure how scheduling works for the NLWC, but I imagine it's easy to have guys in the room at different times. I'm sure that Taylor and Brooks have wrestled a lot, but probably not live wrestling so much. Since they are both scheduled for Final X, I imagine that they STOPPED wrestling each other in the room.
  22. The spot belongs to Gilman. Let's watch Final X. I want to address this statement above. I do NOT think that Gilman is still at the top of his game. I have great respect for Gilman, and I hope he beats Richards soundly. That said, there have been signs that Thomas Gilman is thinking seriously about his future post competitive wrestling. I think you mentioned about how he has had to make 57kg for years. This is true. He is married with a child now, and he is thinking about the financial security of his family, as he mentioned in an interview. These are mental aspects of a wrestler that can bring them very slightly below the level that you call "top of his game". Now Gilman may be able to make the decision that he wants to continue and put 100% of his effort and focus on the task at hand: winning Final X and then the World Championship. All the power to him. I hope he has made his commitment and is dedicated to doing everything necessary to win the World Championship. Richards has made some great adjustments. Your homerism is extremely strong. Styles make matchups, and Richards' style doesn't match up well with Gilman's. It should be exciting!
