Penn State sit outs / breaks from comp
Animal197 replied to pokemonster's topic in College Wrestling
I thought I heard something on a podcast that alluded to an injury. is he planning to go to 92 or directly to 97? I’ve heard that 97 for the next Olympics was the goal. Going directly to 97 would be interesting with Snyder in the same room. With respect to the other suggestion, can’t you look it up if someone is out of the testing pool? -
A pharmacologist and a wrestling coach here. The muscle loss (sarcopenia) associated with this drug would likely negate any advantage for an athlete competing at a high level. One of the unanswered questions is what happens once you come off these drugs? Some of the companies that make them are trying to get a “childhood obesity” or similar label in the thoughts of people needing to be on them for life. As an aside. Has anyone seen anyone use these drugs and lose weight and look healthy afterwards? The folks I’ve seen on them all have an unhealthy “sucked down” appearance.

I consider myself an educated person, but not in criminal law. Before this thread I honestly never really understood why time was taken off of sentences for good behavior. It does make more sense to me now as an incentive to maintain order in prison. Thank you for pointing that out the way that you did.

Anyone have insight as to what happens after a transfer? The wrestler that is leaving still has to finish the semester’s classes. Are they barred from practices until the term ends? Classes are probably less of a concern now with all the online options, but I’m curious if anyone has any knowledge here. Thanks in advance.

HS: 275 (PA did not have 215 until a few years after I graduated) college: 285, 197, 235 (NCWA) made it to 198 last summer on a dare!

We just got back a few weeks ago from the NCWA national Tournament, and Tarleton had a great showing. Teams that are moving to the NCAA or NAIA can compete in the NCWA postseason prior to being eligible for their new league’s postseason (Bellarmine did this last year), but Tarleton is not listed on the NCWA website as a transition team. So I guess they are a few years away from setting that up. I do wonder what conference they are anticipating joining. I believe they are part of the Texas A&M system.

Sorry to be late to this party. Did Gable get a stalling DQ in the second round last night? I was called back into work before I could see 197 and 285. Thanks in advance!

PSU fan (and alum) PSU will always be #1 ISU fan (and alum) current #2. Dresser was just getting started when I graduated and I like what he’s doing. I went to tOSU as well, and root for them when it’s not against PSU

I’m not sure if anyone has brought this up yet, but a good cap to a career by Gavin at Lock Haven this season. 15-2 record, a conference championship and another NCAA tournament bid.

This is a great question. Does post season format prohibit this?

Has PSU ever had someone wrestle + play football
Animal197 replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
Didn’t one of the Nevills play football while wrestling at PSU? -
Agreed. It’s also hard to find at a reasonable price outside of California, or at least has been for me in Iowa and Tennessee.

Not quite the scope of the thread, but I was taught a while ago to specifically avoid red or green as far as colors for diagrams or text in PowerPoints in case an audience member was red/green colorblind. Not really the best response, but I have not posted in a while. -
In the lead up to the all star Carter made a reference to the amount of NCAA champs he has beaten. I was trying to list them out. I think it’s something like this: Folkstyle: -Keck -Lewis (multiple) -Griffin Freestyle (some fft, some consolation at WTT): -Cenzo (fft) -Dieringer -Nolf -Martinez (fft) Am I missing anyone here? My apologies in advance if it’s already been discussed.

It was a while ago, thanks for pointing out the change. These things happen so rarely that it is hard to consider these things when they happen. -

There was a 184 from Wyoming (I think) a few years back that didn’t make weight the 3rd day. He was defaulted to 6th place. https://gowyo.com/news/2016/6/29/577408c3e4b0bdd131ac7726_131479675871300026.aspx -
Curious as to how people on the board are thinking about this one. I understand the decision because it’s in the rules, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before.

Isn’t the Indian wrestling governing body on probation or similar from UWW at the moment? I remember something of this over the past year. -
The Italian said she quit because intense pain from her nose after being punched early on: https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/40697100/boxer-faced-gender-questions-wins-rival-quits-fight It says in the article she was not trying to make a political statement.

Rumor from this spring is that Slippery Rock University has a donor willing to reinstate an NCAA program. I’m from that part of PA, so I heard this from an alum. Has anyone else heard anything about SRU? They have a framework in place with an NCWA team, it would be nice to see this program back, even if it would be D2

I think NIL is tricky for foreign student-athletes. They come via a student visa, which technically does not allow them to work the same as a domestic student. I think this was in the news recently regarding a basketball player from Canada who could not participate in NIL -
