  1. Tier 1
Penn State, Iowa, Cornell, Michigan, Ohio State

    Tier 2
Nebraska, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, NC State, Arizona State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Iowa State

Tiers 3 and 4 are very large and up for debate. Northwestern could be in tier 2 as well. These are purely my opinion and not based on statistics at all. Also 99% chance I missed someone who should be tier 2, please yell at me if you identify them.

  2. For the riding time rule, who determines when a “turn is attempted”? Is one attempted turn good enough to get riding time the rest of the match? Who tracks when a turn is attempted? I have so many questions about this rule and feel like it makes being a ref/table worker even more complex. I appreciate what they’re going for though.

  3. Yup, lol so I guess it’ll be a lot of competition for 125 if he does decide to go. They have a couple of studs competing for the spot. That’s a good problem to have

Truth be told, I knew the when/why he’s leaving Minnesota, I don’t know where he’s going. But the why he’s leaving part leads be to believe he’s going somewhere more open.

  4. I think Iowa has more of a shot then OU. OU has Joey Cruz at 125 and Henson at 133 with 2 studs coming in at 133/141 (Zan F. & Anthony S.)

Plus Iowa will need a 133 after Teske leaves. So they can work it out if he and Iowa both want him IC. It’d be a MAJOR get if they don’t get Nagao and land Spratley.

but why are you guessing OU and OKie State? Is it because it’s close to Texas?

I don’t think Spratley ever intends on being a 133. And he isn’t willing to consider sitting out this year. That’s partly why he’s leaving imo. So unless Ayala intends on sitting this year and moving up to 133 the next I think Iowa is a tough sell for him. But ya never know.

  5. Heard he's buddies with Cody Chittum...

Unless Ayala doesn’t plan on wrestling 125 this year, or any of the next 4, I don’t think he’s going to Iowa.

Oklahoma or Oklahoma state are my bet.

  6. He didn't retain Steveson.
While he didn't go to another NCAA school, he has been in school.

I think Gable’s ability to return last year or this year hinges more on his ability to get into grad school at the U than anything. Speculation though.

  7. I think if this happens we could be seeing a sinking ship similar to the one we are seeing at Northwestern at the moment.

I’m not sure how I feel, to be honest. I really like Gavin Nelson and Max McEnelly at 84/97, along with the potential to add Hopke they could be a lethal trio. The retention of some of the top recruits in the low/mid weights leaves a lot to be desired though. Robideau on the horizon as an elite in-state recruit but he’s only a sophomore in high school.

I am biased but I have high hopes for Vance Vombaur, Drew Roberts and Tagen Jamison in the 141-149 range. The key priorities right now - do all that you can to keep Nagao, Spratley, and land Hopke. Get 2 out of those 3 I’ll be happy.

  8. I don’t think he will end in the portal. With Nagao most likely leaving ( I’d be super surprised if he decided to stay at Minnesota) I think it opens up some room for Mitch M. And Troy to decide whose going what weight. Then after this year he can descend to 125 or be at 133.

I hope you’re right, but all things I’m hearing indicating otherwise.

  9. Hopke is in the gopher practice room 4x a week. Good buddies with Gavin Nelson and family. Hoping we can land him but can never count out Cael. Believe he’s considering Wisconsin heavily as well.

  10. I believe Nagao has a Olympic redshirt he could use, so it could fit nicely with Teske finishing out.

Nagao grey shirted out of high school, then redshirted, and finally wrestled this year. I don’t think he’d want to take another shirt but ya never know. He’s dealt with a lot of injuries going back to high school. I also strongly think he’s going to Penn state and I think they’re the reason he’s in the portal.
