  1. I can envision a situation where he is the ultimate mercenary.
Cash the Iowa check, "enroll" at Iowa, spend all your time training freestyle exclusively in Minnesota with Eggum and Brandsvold, show up at a few home duals, B1Gs and NCAAs and dominate anyway. Never bother with collecting that Iowa post-grad degree.

On that note, he is still training in Minnesota and has been as recently as yesterday. I imagine it would be a little awkward if everyone there knew he was negotiating with Iowa Boosters on his new contract(s) while training in the gopher room.

  2. Personally I'd roll this out there:
    125: Teske
    133: Ayala
    141: Woods
    149: Voinovich or Siebrecht (wrestleoff)
    157: Franek/ Ferrari RS
    165: Caliendo
    174: Kennedy
    184: Brands
    197: Franklin
    285: Oppi

I think flip Kennedy and Caliendo and you nailed it

  3. Tyler Wells- Princeton MN.

Not necessarily rising, but kind of forgotten about because he stopped wrestling national tournaments due to family reasons and committed to D2 St. Cloud state. He’s now flipped to the gophers and will push for a starting spot instantly at 133. Was 164-1 in high school and took third at Fargo in 2021.

  4. His plans are for the future and he believes that the ASU coaching staff is where he will be the best version of himself for that.
It is a surprise to me that it is a surprise to anyone that someone would be willing to wait one year to start at NCAA wrestling when their plans are much further and deeper than that.

I am surprised that you are surprised that I do not know Richard Figueroa’s plans for beyond college. I was merely making the elite recruit riding the bench connection. Apparently I am less perceptive of the inner workings of ASU’s roster than the rest of this board and I will not make that mistake again.

Thank you for making me delve deeper into my arsenal of snappy comebacks.

  5. With the current state of NIL and the transfer portal, is there such a thing as a total "clear path?"  At Mizzou, Zeke Seltzer is probably the projected starter after taking a red shirt in "22-23".  He could develop into a good one, but Zan is a grinder and would have been a quality addition.  I think coach Smith is pretty loyal to his current lineup, but "iron sharpens iron" and competition in the room only makes everyone better.  I'm a Mizzou homeboy and seems like we've lost out on some kids that would have definitely been great additions to "Tiger Style!"

I am of the opinion that especially in todays current NIL/transfer climate, high level recruits such as Fugitt and Seltzer do not even want to consider wrestling less than 4 NCAA tournaments in their careers. Fugitt has a wide open path to that at Wisconsin.

I’m also shocked Arizona State was able to keep Richie Figueroa on the team beyond his redshirt year for this reason. Can’t believe someone as talented as him was willing to wait.

  6. When Oklahoma made the coaching change I was kinda hoping that Zan might stay at home in Missouri and become a Tiger.  I know we can't keep em all home, especially with NIL, but Mizzou needs to be able to shut down the borders for our best.  Zan would have given Mizzou some strong depth at 133.  Is any one in the know why he chose to go elsewhere?  Guess its karma for Mizzou stealing Wisconsin talent.

Did he have a clear path to start at least three years?

  7. Not a bad lineup.... LR putting together a good roster for a newer program. IMO getting Dutton and Bailey were huge for their program. They are becoming a model for starting a program and building from scratch. I hope to see them get an AA soon... the first NC to come from that program will be royalty.

Stephen Little has been super impressive this off-season at freestyle tournaments as well.

  8. Also, Riddle wrestled Barr super tough.
    Any info on him?

AWA guy from Wisconsin, Willie has him ranked in the low 100’s in his class of 2023 big board. Committed to Minnesota in August of 2022 and has really kinda taken off since then. He looked like he belonged in this bracket much more than I expected.

Could be a legit option at 174 leading up to McEnelly, Nelson, Hopke

  9. I can tell you, the mood is less than chipper in Fargo right now.

I hope people aren’t down on the Obe hire. As an Alum, who had a sibling wrestle for Kish, I am certainly happy with the hire. I think people aren’t used to the “open season” mentality that comes with D1 coaching changes at this stage in the game. If a coach leaves for a bigger job, the poachers will surely come out. Blanc was screwed from the beginning. He deserves time and I hope he gets it.

  10. No clue - I keep checking for updates but so fair no rumblings at all on Pentz or Franek.  I did read over on the Bison forum that there was rumor of Caliendo having a firm NIL offer from Minnesota

Gophers have been absolutely fleeced by the portal - I’d kill for some good news. Please be true lol

  11. Shocked no one has done Minnesota yet as it’s pretty good..

    125 Pat McKee former AA
    133 Jake Gliva NQ
    141 Clay Carlson AA
149 not sure - Max Peterson if NDSU maybe?
    157 Peyton Robb AA
    165 Patrick Kennedy NQ
    174 Bailee O’Reilly R12
    184 Bennett Berge
197 Zach Glazier (Gavin Nelson redshirt that I think is better already)
    HWT Greg Kerkvliet AA

  12. Joke aside... Caliendo to OU?  Who sits out?  Nachohouse or Picklo?
Does Picklo go up?  Nachohouse or Caliendo up to 174?

Hearing he’s a gopher. Heard that about two other guys recently though and it didn’t come to fruition. Maybe I need my hearing checked.

  13. Think Hayden could be a good coach, although I’m a bit surprised he would go so far away with Trent still having eligibility. But wonder if Trent will join him there after next year? Does NDSU have an RTC?

The Bison RTC does exist. Don’t believe it is particularly well funded? Not sure on that I guess.
