Let's see if they get a taste for poached gopher.
They’ve already got that taste. With Hopke being as high profile as he is already, I think if Cael wanted him he’d have him.
Nagao different story. He was ranked in the 80’s as a recruit and came on as a surprise. Then Cael wanted him.

Honestly psu 2024 looks like the best lineup ever assembled, don't think anyone can contend next year. But 2025 and after that is the goal
Replacing Aaron Brooks and Carter Starocci with Josh Barr and Zak Ryder shouldn’t give anyone else any hope. They’ll be nails right away. Van Ness/Haines/Facundo/Messenbrink have a lot of years left.
I don’t think they have a great replacement for Kerkvliet lined up though so that’s cool.

I see nominally five qualifiers and two placers.
Hamiti and Amos are the two placers. Hamiti as a 'should be' 3rd is highly inaccurate. He is 0-3 against Amine, 0-2 against Griffith, 0-1 against O'Toole, and 0-1 against Carr. If you are going to say 'should be' then 4th is the highest that he 'should be' come NCAAs since one of Amine or Griffith are going up to 174.
I believe Amos has a peak of mid-AA as well. I would welcome being surprised.
I don't see how you see a Top 10 finish here with those expectations.
Man, idk about Amos at heavyweight. He’s going to be smaller than most and there’s already 6 returning that I would give him an almost 0% chance of beating (Kerk, Cass, Davison, Schultz, Hendrickson, and Elam) but I struggle seeing him beat the Seth Nevills and Slavikouski’s of the world too. Obviously I’m a little biased against them but I think UW is in for a brutal year.

Wisconsin, Bono and the Badgers should be top 10 this year
125 - Barnett 2X AA
133 - Rivera Should be a Qualifier
141 Lettini
149 - Zargo Should AA
157 - Model Should be a qualifier
165 - Hamiti Should place top 3
174 - Condon
184 - Liegel DIII transfer, Huge upside
197 - Talshahar Big things from him this year
285 - Amos will move to Heavyweight an AA
Didn’t Zargo just go 0-2 at 141? You must see something in him I don’t, which is fine. I struggle to see Wisconsin jumping from 16th to top 10 after losing Gomez and Hillger, and their most significant addition is a D3 transfer. Isn’t Model out of eligibility as well?

OSU:
125: Spratley/Witcraft Is Spratley ready, can Witcraft make 125 again, I think we see some of both, wouldn't surprise me if it's Witcraft at the end and a R12
133: Fix Finalist again
141: Alvarez They wouldn't have brought him in unless can turn him into an AA, correct?
149: Williams Kid looks great at times, then sometimes makes you wonder, perhaps as full time starter a NQ
157: Mirzo Yeah my wild pick here. They had a hole here so why would they bring in Mirzo & Olejnik unless John plans to do a little weight magic and Khayitov down to 57, he prob didn't cut much in juco. If it happens going out on a limb with R12.
165: Olejnik Its a tough weight class again but AA.
174: Wittlake (Plott) I think its a good year to give Plott his RS and Wittlake a chance at a better weight. AA
184: Thompson/Stika (Wittlake) If Witt 74 then Thompson 84, can use that RS later, but could be Stika, like 125 & 285 prob see both. NQ
197: Surber AA
285: Doucet/Carroll As with 125 & 184 prob see both guys, betting Carroll at the end. AA if option C and NQ if option D.
I think Okie State can count on Spratley to be an AA right away and contend for titles eventually. He’s capable of winning it all and I believe he’s ready now.

I thought the smoke in the air was Sparks at 165 and Carlson at 174?
Also I think Joles has improved as much as anyone in the country the last two years and would surprise a lot of people if he could get a full, proper season back at 197.
Lee used to have senior level aspirations. If they are Olympic I think it would be cool, even if less that 1% likely, to see him.at 165.
Lyden takes both Sparks and Carlson to school now that he’s done rehab. Not sure Carlson will be back?
I’d love to see Joles down at 197 for a year because I agree with you. Think he’s grown a lot and can do some real damage. Crazy athlete.

Alright I’ll do Minnesota, I guess
125 McKee. Finally got the knee surgery he’s been needing for two years, at his height he was a force at NCAA’s. Anything less than AA again would be disappointment.
133 ??? Don’t think Gliva is coming back. Going to need a transfer here. Nagao leaving sucks on so many levels.
141 Vance Vombaur had some really nice wins last year including 5th place finisher Clay Carlson. Tore his labrum at the scuffle last year tho so will be coming off surgery. I think he’s a solid NQ and could surprise some.
149 Drew Roberts I think will be very solid. Comparable to Blockhus.
157 Brayton Lee??? Can he get back to form two years removed from injury? If not, Sebas Swiggum.
165 Hunter Lyden - my bold prediction for the gophers this year is Lyden takes the weight by storm and threatens to AA.
174 Sam Skillings/Andrew Sparks - Skillings would be solid coming down from 184 where he had some nice wins backing up Salazar last year. Sparks finally bulks up
184 Isaiah Salazar - anything less than AA would be huge disappointment. Should be the favorite in the BigTen imo
197 Gavin Nelson? Or Joles if he goes down? I think both could do well
HWT Bennett Tabor is finally healthy, or Joles again after another offseason putting on weight
I think we’ll be lucky to get 3 AA’s, but help is on the way with the class of 2023 imo. Need some transfers to bolster the lineup. Tyler Eischens? Cleveland Belton? Maximo Renteria? Wyatt Henson/Joey Cruz?

This is a point that we disagree on. I think Zare and Geno could both hand Steveson a loss. Gable looked great at the US Open, but he is not knows for being consistent, and he will be facing a long list of good opponents. He could win it all, but I wouldn't put it in such strong terms as you have done here. I mean he beat Geno with two clutch takedowns in a handful of seconds, a match that could have gone either way. He has also been away from wrestling for a year, though you couldn't tell that from the US Open. There's no doubt that the World Championships are a large step up from the US Open.
In what way is he not known for being consistent? Has he even taken a loss since his true freshman year at NCAA’s against Cassar? I guess I could see the argument that he’s looked a little gassed on his way to tech’ing some guys in folkstyle.
He’s been away from wrestling competitions for a year, but he never stopped training or practicing. He’s been ready.

Quit trying to steal my Sooners.
It’s ruthless out here these days my friend. If you ever need anyone to commiserate with I will happily join. But sometimes you gotta steal a guy or two lol

I hate to be that guy that always brings unrelated threads back to the subject of his own team, but… the gophers lightweight room just got absolutely cleaned out. Spratley, Nagao, Jamison all leaving so there’s no depth and little star power whatsoever. Eggum needs to get Joey Cruz, Wyatt Henson, Anthony Santaniello and/or Zan Fugitt on a visit and see if he can seal the deal with any of them.
A team with a potentially elite group of upper weights coming in could actually make some noise if they were relevant at the bottom of the lineup too. Frustrating to watch unfold.
Okay rant over back to Jason Leonard being pond scum.

I think Hopke, Feldman, Carroll, Kueter.
Hopke because I think by the time he steps on campus he will be able to beat the other three.
I think Feldman ahead of Carroll because I think Feldman also will and would beat Carroll.
Kueter at 4 for the same reasons.
If Kueter were to take the wrestling only approach I have him at 1.
I agree with all of this. Kueter being #1 if only wrestling too. I think the margins between all 4 are small, however.
Interestingly, I think all are pretty small weight wise for HWT’s. Success between the 4 may come down to who puts on the best weight and how quickly.

This might be a question worth it’s own topic but open question for all… how would you rank Kueter, Feldman, Christian Carroll and Koy Hopke as prospects?

Any insight on where Tegan Jamison lands?
Oklahoma state
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Spratley transferred to Oklahoma State
Nagao transferred to Penn State
Jamison in the portal
Kleuver in the portal
Marcus Polanco transferred to Purdue
Blockhus and Steveson not returning for final years of eligibility.
All after losing Chittum last year
Oof
I am much less worried about losing Chittum after the things that have transpired over the last few days.
Not concerned about Kluever or Polanco at all. And honestly, not entirely too concerned about Blockhus leaving either. I think he had a PHENOMENAL postseason where everything came together great for him, similar to Jake Bergeland two years ago. I feel like coming back for a sixth year could have played out similar to Bergelands and I’m not mad that Blockhus is going out on top.
Gable leaving has nothing to do with coaching or the program. He’s getting big money to do what he’s always wanted. Feel like he was never going to stick around for 5 years.
Nagao, Spratley, and Jamison is what has the alarm bells ringing. That’s bad.

Damn, Jamison too. If Iowa's offseason wasn't such a trainwreck, Minny would be having the worst one.
Nah. Ours is worse. Northwestern at least has the excuse that their guys were grad transfers and maybe couldn’t get in to grad school. We have no excuse. Iowa only lost one guy.

Did he GS last season?
He greyshirted two seasons ago, redshirt last year.

One step forward, two steps back in Minnesota. Losing Nagao, Spratley and now Jamison is about as disaster level as it can get. Thank god for the Koy Hopke commitment, but the lightweight portion of the team is in absolute shambles.

If not wanting to be teammates with the Ferrari’s is a primary driver, I wonder how Gabe Arnold feels about that as well. Not a hometown kid, not a ton of ties to the hawks, much bigger flight risk than a kid like Ryder Block IMO
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I could see the Chittum family and the Ferrari family getting along like oil and water. And both have proven to not be afraid to exit from a situation they’re unhappy with.

Homegrown is still a thing... but not as much of a thing as it used to be. With the amount of travel these kids do with wrestling they are able to see schools, meet people, go to camps under coaches, etc. A lot kids do not want to stay home no matter what, so it's not always an indication of the program.
Helps a lot that Minnesota and Wisconsin have tuition reciprocity. They can really be treated like in-state recruits financially.

Just practicing a bit of trolling old chap, only way to improve is with some off-season practice.
Just poking some fun at the being beat in the room thing. I know the story behind the lack of final big board rating. Just makes for a "fun" talking point about Brands excellent coaching abilities when he places. I think one thing he's got going for him is 157 is not especially deep.
Chittum lost to Drew Roberts (gopher) his last high school loss. Then he got smoked by Jamison at the US open not too long after. Chittums father has a large influence In where he landed (as with most top prospects) and in their last visit to MN he realized that Roberts was on the team as well. That scared the whole commitment. It wasn’t the sole reason, but it was a big part of it.
NOW, the part that I don’t get is Jamison, Roberts, etc have stayed lower weight wise and Chittum has grown into a 157 (I think) and would still fit the roster. Money/teammate relationships came in to play big time at that point and Eggum couldn’t seal the deal.
