1. Cougar Clash from what I can gather is going to be as of now.
Northern Colorado
Missouri
Illinois
Minnesota
Northern Illinois
SIU-Edwardsville
Little Rock
Army West Point was here last year and they wrestle in St. Louis the night before vs. Iowa. So it is possible they will be here as it is a 30 minute drive to SIU-Edwardsville from where they are wrestling.
Little Rock duals Central Michigan the day after the Cougar Clash and since they will have already wrestled Mizzou and SIU-E at the Tiger Style Invite. Plus they dual Mizzou two weeks after the Clas. I think they might bring a backup and true Freshman. But they could bring starters since it is only an 8 hour drive to Mt. Pleasant, MI and Edwardsville and Mt. Pleasant have International Airports within 45 minutes of each other. They might wrestle both.  Eirsman has been known to wrestle anyone, anytime.

‘‘Twas a good tournament last year, but not streamed (it was, but only one of three mats and no scoreboard). Hope ESPN+ handles it better this year.

2. Its kind of like arguing about Iowa vs PSU wrestling.  Whats the point in having a forum if we can't discuss and argue.  Its the Non Wrestling Topics, what are we supposed to do just sit back and watch WrestlingRasta and mspart argue about whats best on the smoker - fish or squirrel?

But I also agree with this. Forums are for bantering and arguing, who am I to complain about what the arguing is about. Go nuts I suppose!

3. There’s a way whiting would make 165? I doubt it?
Roberts is hurt? How bad?
197 - salazar should handle Nelson I would think? Hopefully Nelson doesn’t transfer

Whiting at 165, I doubt it will be necessary but I don’t doubt he can make it.
Not sure on Roberts, just heard he has a hurt shoulder. We’ll be much better off if it’s not serious.
I think if they felt that Salazar was for sure going to handle Nelson, Salazar would’ve been named a captain. Instead it’s Askey and Vombaur. Salazar is still able to transfer in season as long as he does it before wrestling attached. I think that wrestle off is much closer than people anticipate.

4. There is a lot of intriguing matchups with Minnesota vs SDSU this year with all the transfers for both teams.
Flynn vs Jordan
Askey vs Siebrecht
Sparks vs Rhodes
Whiting vs DeVos
McEnelly vs Berge
Salazar vs Glazier

Wells vs Cardinal rubber match too

5. Hard to imagine Whiting down at 165. I can see 174 but man, 165 would be quite the cut even is he is walking around at 180 now. This will be a very balanced dual team for Minny. TBD  on how well it will translate to march. The could have 5 AA's with a couple of high placing AA's (Flynn with the insanity of 125, McEnelly being the most likely to make a high podium push in my mind) or they could walk away with 2 or 3 low AA's total. Have you heard anything on how Wells has been looking? I would not be surprised to see him make a leap this year.

Looking at Flo’s rankings, they have eight guys ranked in the top 13, but only two in the top 8. Seems like that’s been the story of the team the last few years. A bunch of really solid guys, but no absolute stand outs (except Gable obviously).

FWIW, I don’t think Sparks beats Whiting in a wrestle off and think Sparks will go 165.

Haven’t heard on Wells. I’m a little nervous he can’t make 133 again, but we will see. He was a split second from AA as a true freshman, I’d love to see a jump too.

6. Has Whiting been cutting for some time.  I know at Mizzou he was 184 and didn’t look like he could drop 10-20lbs and keep his strength/stamina.  Just curious.

Been told he’s walking around below 180

7. Minnesota
125 - Cooper Flynn
133 - Tyler Wells
141 - Vance Vombaur
149 - Blaine Brenner maybe, Drew Roberts hurt
157 - Tommy Askey
165 - Sparks/Whiting loser
174 - Sparks/Whiting winner
184 - McEnelly
197 - Salazar/Nelson wrestle off
285 - Tabor, Hopke redshirt

149 is a hole, HWT TBD. Hearing Tabor finally put on some really good weight.

8. Nope. The transfers fit nicely in for SDSU. Cobe can fill in for Swenson while he rehabs his knee and we really did not have anyone of note at 165 or 197 with Sloan and Cook graduating. The SDSU coaching staff values have a tight knit team and would not bring in guys at the expense of team chemistry. Go Jacks!

Jordan
Cardinal
Gross?
Siebrecht
Siebrecht
Rhodes?
Devos
Berge
Glazier
Rasmussen?

Are the starters in stone at 141, 165 and HWT? I wonder if Logan Swenson can’t push for a spot right away

9. You would have to think he would have landed somewhere by now, which makes me wonder if there is still an injury concern.

Hasn’t he dealt with at least one season ending concussion? I could be misremembering, but if so, those don’t just go away. I’m inclined to believe there’s still injury concern.

10. TBD on if Swenson or Alek Martin are wrestling this year. Both sustained knee injuries. We will see.

That would be a bummer. I enjoy the Swensons quite a bit.

11. Glazier would likely (easily) start for them at 197lbs.  The Siebrechts would likely need to head to a different weight to start, unless the SDSU incumbents 'decide' to head to a different weight (school)?
Swensen has been 157lbs his entire career, whereas Siebrencht went up from 149lbs the year before his suspension (two seasons ago).  If Cade intends to start, he will have to supplant Alek Martin.  Martin is clearly better right now.
Another option is both drop in weight, with Cade going 141lbs.  A much easier path, where the scale is his biggest opponent, and Cobe going 149lbs... which would be with the intent of replacing Martin then.
Cobe is probably the better wrestler at 149 or 157, so he likely gets choice.  So Swensen to 165lbs, then?  Cade hasn't had his shot, yet, but has been in the room, so he could be right there with Cobe as far as skill and aptitude goes.

I think Swenson to 165 has been the plan since NCAA’s ended last year but I’m not 100% on that.

12. My least favorite thing about freestyle is the chest wrap or head pinch off a shot to a cheap tilt to score. Just feels like it’s rewarding bad wrestling and the non-offensive guy. I know that’s technically not true but it drives me nuts watching it.
