Biggest difference between what happened to ASU and what happened to the gophers imo is the guys ASU lost are all on their last year of competition. So while it obviously has a huge impact on this season it shouldn’t change a lot of long term plans, they should have already been looking at replacements. When the gophers lost Spratley, Nagao and Jamison they each had 3+ years left and the gophers were left scrambling, not just for the year it happened but also the 3 years following. That’s much more impactful and worse imo. Also, it didn’t just “happen” to the gophers, they did not do enough to keep those guys around and should have, but I love the lessons learned and the way they rebounded.
