  1. I am bipolar about feelings on Askren. He always comes across as this self-righteous guy, making fun of youth tournaments called "national" tournaments, or getting on parents how they treat their kids. I have a good friend that wrestled at Syracuse, his 14 year old is wrestling at a tourney where Askren was at. My buddies kid loses, and throws his head gear across the gym, almost hit another kid. My buddy snatches his kid up and says, you go walk down there and get that headgear and apologize to the kid you almost hit. Kid starts throwing an even bigger fit "NO!" " I don't want to!" buddy says, if you don't, I am going in the hallway and bust your a$$. Askren, catching part of this discussion, must have overheard "I am going to bust your a$$" part walks up to my buddy and says, something like "hey you cannot do that to your kid after a loss, parents like you are why kids stop wrestling" etc....my buddy tells him he needs to mind his own business, there were a few more words and then the day went on. BUT then, I read some parts of his book, and I love his mindset on certain things. So, again, I have mixed feelings on Askren.
  2. Poulin has looked pretty good thus far. The tourney has been fun for me to watch, tons of young guys that I know and seeing them do well is awesome. We had (3) guys out of our highschool room that competed and are doing pretty well.
  3. They are tough, Jason Kraft coached them some while they were younger. Kraft coached several of those kids in Cali
  4. maybe?
  5. Got it. It take anything a mom says with a grain of salt. My only issue is IF Lee was pissed that Ayala wanted to wrestle him. Lee was going to beat Ayala under any circumstance. The argument that Lee could have got hurt by wrestling Ayala is my debate.
  6. So, a match with a teammate is dangerous, but wrestling everyone else is not? you cannot have it both ways, someone touched on this earlier. You WANT the young buck to say, lets go, kick my ass or not, I wanna wrestle, don't ya? I get it, two major knee surgeries, but if there is doubt, wrestle in the room until mid january, no real matches. He has been there for 5 years, he does not need the experience. At the end of the day, however anyone feels, Lee should respect that Ayala wanted to wrestle, IMO. Maybe after everything calms down, he will ask himself if he would have felt the same way at 20. I am not an iowa or lee hater, I am a wrestling fan. I understand armchair coaching is stupid, and it is just an opinion.
  7. that makes sense, and makes the comments see even more petty. No matter what, parents need to keep everything in the room, good or bad. I know my kids would murder me if I took to posting comments about the program on social media. Anyway, I did not know what was going on with these two.
  8. who is the professional hater of all things Hawkeye? A mom that her son wrestles for the Hawkeye's?
  9. Ok, explain the difference to a dummy like me. From what she said, I took it as, Lee does his own thing, and is not in the room with the team. How do you interpret her comment?
  10. I have said this many times, and this is a great point. Take it further, little Johnny who is 8, wanted to go watch the scuffle to watch his favorite wrestlers. Mom and Dad save up, this is a mini vacation and let's face it wrestling is not cheap to watch, and none of little Johnny's heroes are there. Complete dud. How do you grow this sport by doing this? Is it the weight cuts, is it I don't want to give that guy a look more than once? Pretty frustrating overall.
  11. Rumors are, Lee was feeling it after his semi's match, knees were sore etc. Ayala wins his semi's and Lee thought it was a lock, don't wrestle just forfeit. Ayala wanted the match, I don't think it was a disrespectful move, but let me see where I am at move. Pissed Lee off, and Brands could not tell them NOT to wrestle. Lee gets the fall, pushes off Ayala's face, says some stuff and then gave it to the corner. Mom takes to social media. I think what I am most shocked about, the comment that Lee does not practice with the team? Maybe it is BS, but that is shocking. Armchair QB moment, and with Portals and NIL deals, it would be really hard to take this stance...but you cannot let these kids run your program. I know for a fact AJ Ferrari was killing the poke room. Not many liked him, it was about AJ and not the TEAM. Smith sold his soul to the devil, and all he could do was watch it all unfold. I am not at all comparing AJF and Lee, I am only saying, these coaches need to try to control the room the best they can. Again, easier said than done, I know.
  12. What is the deal here? Lee pushed off of his face after the match and was saying something after he pinned Ayala. Ayala’s mom got on social media saying Lee doesn’t practice with the team and her kid is smart etc… what’s up!
  13. all good points. My son is a freshman in college and he said the mental part is the biggest challenge. It is a full time job, practice and then school, then lifting, then "extra" when you are not where you want to be.
  14. I just watched the Dresser interview. Sounds a lot like a coaching decision on Coleman and Carr. "resting because they are old".
  15. No, I agree there are wrestlers that feel that way too. BUT, you hope there are coaches out there do not allow it to happen.
  16. I agree picking and choosing tourneys to wrestle if healthy, is hurting the sport. IMO too many coaches put themselves first, because they need that national placer, or even national champ. So, they think, rest, dodge, rest and wrestle. EVERYONE is doing it. RBY was taking off, and I believe he had some comment about, wrestles when he wants? I am sure that is out of context, but something around those lines. Brands ALWAYS "rests" his guys, Glory is laying out and the list goes on and on. I realize college is much more of a grind, and tougher on the body. There has to be a better way of continuing to grow the sport. I got challenged by an ex OSU Poke about a comment I made that there are little kids that go to a dual to see Spencer Lee wrestle only to find out he is "sitting out". Now, that could be a bad example, because Lee just had two major knee surgeries, but there are examples out there. My view is different. I want my kids to get a look, or even a couple of looks with a kid that might be better. There are wrestlers out there, that are going to wrestle every weekend if healthy. I wish everyone would have that mindset. Easy for me to say this, as a fan now, but damn we need this sport to GROW vs true fans losing interest.
  17. Arizona St lifestyle getting to him?
  18. I am not worked up, lol. My only point is, if OSU calls CP is answering and would leave in a heartbeat. Your point of finishing higher than Okie State, is my point, Okie state is on a downward spiral
  19. Gfeller MAYBE, no chance on Mastro or Wittlake IMO. I agree Plott could AA, he has wrestled well.
  20. Okie State has not been a power in YEARS. OKIE State is and has been declining for years. Right now, tell me how many AA's are on that current team. Fix is a lock, but who else? Would you be surprised if they only had Fix? I wouldn't. John sold his soul to the devil when he sign Ferrari, that whole room hated Ferrari. Now, to my point of why I don't think he is gone after this year. He has a pretty good recruiting class with Carrol and Thompson leading the way. Both, I believe could start as freshman.
  21. Again, Neutral here. Do you actually believe Oregon ST is equal or a better job than Okie state? If so, stop dude. If Chris P was asked to take the Okie State job, he would leave IN A HEARTBEAT. NO QUESTION. Oregon ST will never be a power 5, whereas Okie ST is and with a more aggressive coach, they could be battling the Iowa's and Ohio St's of the world. I am not sure anyone will catch Penn St, I think they are a tier above, BUT there is that second tier
  22. 100%. Building houses etc.
  23. I love this type of info, I have heard different, but certainly not doubting. They continue to pipeline these highschoolers through Stilly, lots of rumors Jax Forrest could be in Stilly next year, and all roads lead to being a poke. Just as Beric Jordan this year, move in, and road lead to OSU. My point? Smith is the driver here, so it would shock me if he road off into the sunset after this year.
  24. Not an OSU fan, but John Smith WILL NEVER be forced out, he will leave when he wants. Next, If and when he does leave, what has Coleman Scott done to deserve the OSU job? Whoever said Henson, come on. Pop would be a good fit, but to someone else's point, he has a pretty good thing going on where he is at.
