Flo did a lineup breakdown with Zeke and there are some interesting lineup notes -
Sounds like Valencia/Negron was a wrestle off for 184. Valencia will go 174, Negron 184
No mention of Montalvo, sounds like It’s Meissner’s job at 197.
In my opinion, they recruited Ramos, Yas, and Larkin primarily because of their preference to stay close to home, rather than due to ASU's actual need for them.
Could very well be Teemer again next year at 157. Have to figure they have Chlebove, Yas, Vasquez, Ramos, Parco, and Larkin for essentially 3 weights with no redshirts to play with next year. I’d think somebody leaves.
Wow, what a tough landing spot for Teemer after a year without any competition. Don’t think he wins this one, but he’s definitely a candidate to be a benefactor of the 3 point takedown.
Opens the door for Kilic or Larkin to hop into the lineup. I think both are more formidable 157 than McLane is at 165, and it probably makes more sense for the program long term.
Stanford was fresh off of being dropped. It doesn’t get much worse than that. They joined the ACC a day and half later and I’m sure he was privy to that.
Koll never wanted to be at Stanford. It was a paycheck until he found something he liked better. Hope the program/next staff can retain most of its recruits and continue regaining traction after almost being dropped.
May be a biased take, but I’d imagine his coaching staff/class of ‘23 has to feel a pretty shafted. Made his “recommitment” to Stanford then jumps ship a couple months later the week before school starts and it’s likely too late for others to find new landing spots.
Would love for it to be Merrill, but my guess is Zepeda. Willie floated the possibility of him transferring to Valiant last week, so I assumed there was some link to ASU.
Negative side of the Covid year imo. Guys like Bernie wouldn’t leave if they didn’t have the additional year after completing undergrad. Makes sense to move on for grad school, but it makes for bad optics for smaller programs.
