  1. Ok, could have sworn it was 4 yesterday
  2. Why only 3 mats today
  3. This is pathetic. Bad look for UWW officials
  4. Japan coaches should have tried to challenge that last sequence
  5. Doing the semis on 1 mat 1 at a time is brutal
  6. Damn this Mamivand guy sucks..wrestles like Goleij except he is a 74kg guy. That match was the worst showcase of the modern Iranian style of wrestling. Guy is down 3 points with 10 seconds left and he is still trying to get 1 point stepouts. How do you make a junior team in Iran and literally not have a leg attack?
  7. I will guess he isn't actually from Hormozgan. Vahabian who just came second at cadet worlds at 71kg represents Gilan but is from Mazandaran. Not 100% but I will assume he is from elsewhere.
  8. Yaz will keep it upper body and try and hand fight with him for 6 minutes. He will never shoot on Sad which is what got Taylor killed. I don't think he will win but I think unless he is completely washed from his injuries he will be able to lose by less than Taylor did against Sad.
  9. He represents Hormozgan. Couldn't find anything on if he is actually from there or just representing them.
  10. They were not happy with Pirdayeh's performance after Asian juniors so they held a mini trial at 65 between him and 3 other wrestlers. This Tat guy won it. That's all I know about him. He hasn't been on any teams previously. As for Khateri, he is only on the team because the 61 at asian champs came fifth. I guess they think he can do better or just want to give someone else a chance. They sent Khateri to a junior tournament in Armenia a few months ago and he didn't do well so I wouldn't expect much.
  11. We should get a gold at juniors. Maybe 86 and/or 79. Will be interesting if Yousefi at 79 can beat that Turkmen kid after the good year he has had at the senior level or if he still loses to him badly like last time. They changed a few of the wrestlers after asian juniors ( 61, 65, 79, 125).
  12. Ok. I thought it looked like someone from the classic Friday the 13th movies.
  13. No one. No one promising coming up either. We have traditionally been weak at HW, our last world champ prior to Zare was in 1989 and of course Ghasemi with his olympic gold. But you can get a lot of years and medals out of a good HW. They have time to produce someone. It's not a big deal as no country has any depth at HW right now except maybe Azerbaijan with their two transfers ( Masoumi and the Paris olympic bronze Georgian guy). And by the time Masoumi is even allowed to wrestle for them the Georgian guy could no longer be a factor as he is 33. Who is that in your profile pic anyway, lol. He looks familiar.
  14. Likely a mix of fluke draws helping us to the finals which made the team look better than it was and some choking.
  15. At 45, 48 and 71 they just came across superior wrestlers. They would have lost to them at any stage of the tournament. Maybe 1 or 2 of the upper weight guys choked.
  16. 0 golds LOL. You got Dabir saying any wrestling tournament Iran enters we should win half the golds. Very bad!
  17. I think iran has to just win 1 match
  18. Georgian kid at 92 is terrible. USA will get bronze.
  19. Well we had a lot of different coaches over the years. Rasoul Khadem couldn't produce many golds either. 2012 - 1 ( ghasemi due to Taymazov and the Georgian failing the drug test) 2013 - 2 ( rahimi and yazdani) - 2014 0 golds - 2015 - 0 golds - 2016 rio - 1 gold ( yazdani) - 2017 - 1 gold and only 1 medal total ( yazdani) 2018 - 0. I know he wasn't technically the head coach in 2017 as it was Talai but he was obviously still pulling the strings and Talaei was a highly accomplished wrestler also.
  20. Yes, it's a shame Cuba's freestyle program is completely dead. They sent a 40 year old Garzan to the olympics last year. They must have cut what little funding they had to it.
  21. I don't think folk gives them an edge. I think, like us, they just have a lot of wrestlers and going off olympic medal counts they also produce the best athletes in the world. I mean we are talking about USA but they flopped in the Olympics also for mens freestyle. We flopped too with that ridiculous 3 silvers but not as bad as them. I think Iran's main problem is winning olympic freestyle golds. We have 3 olympic champs since 2000. 1 of those was due to half his weight class failing the drug test. We are now at back to back olympics with no freestyle gold. That is really, really bad for a country that considers itself a major wrestling country. I don't like Dorostkar either. Guy randomly resigns a year prior to the Olympics then randomly comes back the year after. But it's not all his fault. As for the coaches, we have weight class coaches, Taghavi is is the coach for the lighter weights for example but yes they work under the federation and head coach. Difference is in the USA they mostly train at their own wrestling clubs with their own coaches for the majority of their preparation whereas in Iran they all train at the national camp almost year round. You can't take that system and put it in Iran because while the national camp is certainly an impressive facility, we only have one of those. They have comparable facilities throughout the country. As for wearing guys out, not all their guys are like that. We currently have and have in the past had guys like that too. Zare wears guys out. Firouzpour wears guys out and will likely be a world champ this year even though he has a terrible style of wrestling. In contrast their 86 this year struggles to wrestle 6 minutes. I think that is more to do with the individual athlete.
  22. Japan sends the trial runner up to asians, you will see they have a totally different team between worlds and asians. They do the same for juniors also. I think it's a good way to let more guys get international experience. Russia also sends their trials runner up to euros. USA is wrestling pan ams which is a terrible continent for wrestling.
  23. Actually I forgot the 92 guy. He should win. Ukraines 80kg must be a national war hero. He beat Iran and Russia for gold.
  24. Also we have 0 chance in any of the finals. 0 golds this year for cadets fs
  25. Damn lol I see even the 80kg kid lost to Ukraine. Thought he would get gold. As windows said, its 3 - 1, but yes. We may underperform considering how well funded the federation is lately and more importantly the amount of wrestlers we have. USA is lucky all their more talented guys wrestle freestyle/folkstyle, our talent is split between greco and fs. We would do better if Sourian, Saravi, Esmaili etc had all done freestyle also. Japan probably overperforms the most in terms of medals compared to total number of wrestlers.
