12 weights is over kill. 9 or 10 is good. Maybe keep them the same but get rid of 92 and adjust 86 and 97 accordingly. As for GR, credit to UWW. No clue how a unpopular sport with no women's division continues to survive in the olympics. The only sport in the games that women can not participate in. I'd be interested if anyone can shed some light on this. Unfortunately I think that if/when it finally does get cut, the weights wont go to FS, but to beach wrestling.

57 - No clue. I don't expect much from whoever emerges at worlds. Seems Momeni is the front runner. 61- Javan selected 65 - Amouzad selected. Emrahimzadeh seems to be the best of the rest and will probably go to U23 worlds again. 70 - Sina Khalili, but I am interested to see him wrestle Shakeri. 74 - Emami is still probably the best guy we have. 79 - Yousefi 86- Ghasempour, but I am interested in seeing Rahmani. He is very talented and improving rapidly. 92 - Firouzpour selected and Azimi at 97. Who is even left at this weight? 97 - Probably still Goleij 125 - Zare, but hopefully Masoumi

May 6th

He called him a traitor and Gazyumov ( AZE head coach and 2016 olympic silver) got into it with Mamiashvili afterwards apparently.

That was 9 years ago

Azarpira won't be at the Takhti. Whoever wins the Takhti at 97 will go to some tournaments (without Azarpira) and if they are "successful" in those tournaments they can go to a foreign tournament with Azarpira or directly wrestle him for a spot on the team based off what the coaches decide. In the wrestle off they would need to beat him twice but he would only need to beat them once. And yes, I think it is unfair to Masoumi. They should let him go to worlds if he wins Takhti, especially since Zare will be at the Takhti anyway, but that is not the path they want to go. Zare seems to choke/lose every other year and Masoumi seems about as good against foreign competition but as is always the case in Iran world medalists are protected until the bitter end. They are even protecting Younes Emami of all people.

They announced the trials procedure for the rest of the year now that the Asian champs and other recent tournaments have concluded. Amouzad at 65 and Firouzpur at 92 are confirmed 2025 world team members with no further trial or foreign tournament. They are on the team. With the news of Firouzpour being the world team member I think it confirms we wont see Yazdani return this year. Some other guys like Ghasempour at 86 and Zare at 125 just need to win the Takhti cup to be on the team. So if Masoumi wins the Takhti even with Zare being in the bracket he would still need to beat him in a separate trial or outperform him in a foreign tournament. I heard from a good source Masoumi will wrestle for another country if he doesn't make the team very soon.

I don't think you can pick your sport in China

Masoumi was a cadet in 2021. So.. 2022 , 2023 and 2024? Im not sure if it is exactly 3 times but it could be. Their matches aren't very memorable aside from the one where Masoumi tried to punk him lol

Legit or Pretender- Arash Yoshida (Japan - 97kg)
shiraz321 replied to Wrasslin's topic in International Wrestling
Thought pretender previously. Think he's legit now. He's younger than I thought also. I thought he was mid 20s for some reason. I wonder why we never saw him at junior worlds. -
Yes, better than he ever has. Much improved.
-
We just saw the next Gadisov. Rahmani wins asian champs aged 18. He will be great
-
Peaked at cadets you mean, he has no positive junior results. He turned 18 in January, so he still has a few years as a junior to go. I think if this other guy flops at 61 at asian juniors they may give him another chance.
-
After the armenia junior tournament our junior fs team is set for at least the asian champs. Khateri won't be on it, he flopped and got DNP at 61. The other guy came 5th. Soleimanian came second at 86. I think they will send Rahmani now that senior 86 is filled with Ghasempour
-
Haven't heard anything about him going up. The head coach at the time of the olympic games spoke about the final and basically just said Kiyooka was a bad matchup for him.
-
I dont think Amouzad can beat Kiyooka but we will see
-
Yaz has beat him every time, as Truzzcat said. There was no point in any of the matches where I thought Ghasempour could win, even if the scoreline wasn't too wide in some of their later matches. They are close enough in age where that is not a factor to Ghasempour finally getting one over Yaz. I think the only reason to pick Ghasempour would be Yaz being diminished from his injury, which is very possible.
-
He will wrestle at the Takhti cup at 86. That will be the only trial for him. The head coach in the same interview said he hopes he will win world gold at 86 this year. Basically, outside of a catastrophic weight cut, he will be the 86kg rep this year at worlds. Yaz is also confirmed to no longer wrestle at 86. He will return at 92 or 97.
-
Ghasempour is confirmed for 86kg
-
We came second at 45 and 48 this year at cadets. Our gold medalists were shamsipour at 71 and afshar at 80. I think shamsipour and hosseini are more talented than yousefi. Seems that a lot guys who wrestle at the lightest cadet weights hit growth spurts and don't wrestle the lightest senior weights. Khateri will not be a senior at 57.
-
He beat soleimanian to make the junior team last year and is a year younger than him. Soheili flopped somewhere after nationals if I remember right. Not sure how old him and Norouzian are. We have 2023 cadet world silver Hoseini and 2024 cadet gold Shamsipour at junior 79kg now. Shamsipour beat Hosseini in the junior nationals finals. Hoseini is likely the next Ghasempour and Shamsipour is impressive too. These guys will be added to 86 in the next few years.
-
Hes 18 and they want to send a young team. They have no one better than him in that age range at that weight. They are probably working on him in case Ghasempour doesn't make it to 86, which is why he seems to go to literally almost tournament. I think he is talented anyway. If it's a question if Ghasempour can make 86 this year is there any chance he makes it in 4 years? I don't blame them for giving this young guy some opportunities.

I feel like Sidakov, Ramonov and Kudukhov should be on here

He won at 86 in 2021 in that legendary junior worlds in russia where iran got 5 golds and won at 92 in 2022. I don't think he will go back down.
