  1. He did the opposite in freestyle. He beat the hell out of the senior field at Team Trials and Final X and then skipped Worlds.
  2. Rooting for Vega but I think Bo has more of an advantage in freestyle
  3. For sure. I think that's fair, but I do distinguish between bringing in new high school recruits vs. bringing in portal guys. I think of high school recruitment mainly as building your program and portal recruitment mainly as filling immediate holes. That seems to be how it's generally used.
  4. What you described is recruiting.
  5. I don't know who acted first, but if you offer to pay a kid to come to your school, that is recruiting
  6. Those don't bother me at all. LLWS is super fun and international and doesn't compete with anything like March Madness. It's grown over a long period of time. The WNBA draft was lightning in a bottle with Clark. What I want to know is who in the hell is watching lacrosse and why
  7. IIRC the viewership peaked at 806,000 during Gable-Hendrickson
  8. That's fair! If you're a title contender though, you will find a way to AA imo
  9. @Fletcher and others are criticizing the practice of recruiting over a guy who is a contender with a guy who might be "2% better" in his words. PSU (fans at least) looked at Ryder as a title contender. Kennedy was R16 when they brought Caliendo in.
  10. What were the criteria in the first year of the Hodge (95?)
  11. Pyles definitely did. He said in his little speech that Carter had the higher bonus % and that he beat the returning national champion twice. JD Rader in his final Hodge ranking where he put Carter #1, has Carter listed at 27-0 (this includes the All Star match) and inexplicably lists his bonus % as 85 and Wyatt's as 80. The guys whose job it is to cover the sport and be unbiased cannot get basic facts right while using their influence to make a pitch for their preferred guy.
  12. It lowered his dominance score but they were still well above Mitch and Carter's. But it also added significantly to his quality of competition criteria. I don't disagree with you about humans and their love of a good narrative, but I don't think you can write it off as simply that. And I dont know what you mean that Starocci couldn't have done more to convince voters
  13. How so? It would be silly to give him credit for the All Star victory and then not include it in his statistics.
  14. That doesn't prove anything except that people were ranking based on their assumption that Gable would go undefeated. It's wrong to view the previous rankings as a knock against Hendrickson or his season-long dominance
  15. Yes, it's an exhibition match, but you won't find a person who advocated for Carter for the Hodge that doesn't note that he beat Keck twice (but they all also fail to include it in the calculations)
  16. not if you credit him for his win in the All Star Classic
  17. I think it's his more natural weight and he went up to 197 because of Carter. Without a returning starter at 184, he might want to go to the weight he's best at. I agree with the consensus that it wouldn't be what's best for the lineup, but if we're to believe Cael, he lets the guys sort it out themselves.
  18. Yeah, I don't distinguish b/w which coach brought them in. They committed to the university as far as I'm concerned. Thompson wrestled at 184 at two opens last December and faced two D1 opponents. One was a 6-2 decision over a backup from Air Force. I think he has potential, but there's not yet a reason to get one's hopes up
  19. I don't really consider it getting recruited over unless you've proven that you can compete at a high level, and Thompson hasn't done that in college. I think he has real potential, but he hasn't done enough to consider his spot reserved.
  20. the finals match was a dud, but he was solid all year. Only lost to one dude (twice). I guess on the other side there were only three quality guys that he beat, but he beat them each twice. Spratley, Peterson, and Seymour.
  21. The Locked On Nittany Lions guy thinks Josh Barr may go down to his more natural weight and compete for 184 and that played a part in why Zack Ryder hit the portal.
  22. Ha! Thanks, I knew I would make a goof somewhere. I'll put Blaze as my fourth at 157
