    Is there generally a similar difference in levels between D2 and D3 the way there is between D1 and D2?

    That's where I'm at. Have the first 10 or 12 teams auto-qualify based on last year's dual season. Then hand pick the rest of the field with a best-guess lineup projection. But no matter what system you use, you'll miss out on a couple great teams at the margins and you just have to accept it.
