If I didn't know the opposite to be the case, I would fire up the PSU fans and say that Blaze went to PSU because he knew he couldn't beat Davino or Mendez! High school Blaze > True Freshman Davino. Now, we get to find out.

True freshman talk is for elementary kid parents. These guys are old enough to go to war, compete in the Olympics and live on their own. They are grown men. It was a great strategy that beat someone who is a great wrestler!

Sorry bro, but no way would Ono be contending for a title this year. The post was based on swap out the backups right now and put them in, not develop them for a couple of years, not by the end of their career - today. Sealy has no quality wins and would not AA at this year's 157. Kasak yes at 157, at 165 likely AA behind Caliendo and Lockett. Henckel could AA just maybe but not in the hunt for a title this year.

At first I thought this is crazy, but then gave it some thought and it could be interesting but the expected points would be better straight up without a bump. But then what if PSU puts in Desmond at 133 and wrestles Blaze at 141 just to play chess over checkers. Blaze, Davino and Mendez know each other really well. Desmond likely holds Davino to a decision and maybe Blaze would hold Mendez to a decision or pulls an upset? I doubt any of this happens but it's fun to speculate.

Crazy to think of the likely rankings (intermat) by time the dual happens. I know upsets happen, but we are track for a real treat! 125 - 1 vs 2 133 - 2 vs 3 (I expect Forest to beat Frost) 141 - 1 vs 11 (Davis might move up a bit) 149 - 1 vs 4 157 - 1 vs 3 165 - 1 vs 18 174 - 1 vs 4 184 - 1 vs 5 197 - 1 vs 10 285 - 3 vs 12 Obviously PSU gets credit for lots of # 1 ranked wrestlers, but its crazy to have 8 number ones and 6 top 5 matchups and 7 top 10 matchups!

His own coach said 125 is a pull for him and he'd have trouble making it on back to back days. His record is at 141 so that is where I slotted him. Discuss all you want, but put some realistic thought to it instead of shooting from the hip.

I really struggle with the questionable takes that PSU is so deep that their backups would be a hammer of a team. Here are the backups and they aren't sniffing a podium finish based on where they are today - not with a year of training, right now! Likely to develop and have some good careers, but these guys are not hammers this year! 125 - Garcia - DNP 133 - Ono - at best 4-7 range, 133 is a loaded weight class 141 - Desmond - 8, likely R12 149 - Pierce - 6 - 8, likely R12 157 - Kasak - 3 (I put Kasak here because this score more points than a DNP Sealy at 157 and a 7/8 finish for Kasak at 165) 165 - Beckett - DNP 174 - Henkel - DNP 184 - Cunningham - DNP 197 - Mirasola - 7/8 285 - Cochran - DNP Based on this, scoring optimistically looks like 45 - 55 points. Based on Flo rankings today, that puts PSU's backup team in contention with Cornell, Lehigh and NC State on the optimistic side.

It's a pretty big disrespect to reduce JB down to blast doubles. He found what worked for him and maximized it. He will do the same for his kids. He has such a great command of the sport when he commentates and he is running a club. I doubt that the club is only full of kids learning the blast double. He has mentioned reaching out to Chance to learn and that what DT was able to do made him interested in coaching. Iowa will either be awesome because it picked up JB, or a long-term failure having been too short-sighted and missed out on DT and JB!

JB is the guy to get. I would think he would go to Nebraska at some point, but Nebraska has had some issues with NIL money for the top guys. JB moves the needle and he is the perfect combination of a fundraiser and technician. There are very few people that can do both.

As a buckeye fan I want blaze and forest to be either 1&4 or the 2&3. We need a lot of bad draws to have a shot.

If you watched the match against Cannon, he did not, it was one sequence. Yes he beat Shapiro out of the hospital. He did beat Taylor pretty good, but he didn't get the job done at nationals. A healthy Shapiro is 100% the likely winner in this bracket, but I don't know if he can handle Duke's power; at best 3rd again behind Shapiro and Duke.

Seally's best win is against Zapeda, otherwise he has no top 20 accomplishments. You guys answered my point on Kasak, good, but not champ at this point. He took 3rd two years in a row which is really, really good, but not champ. He isn't beating Duke, Shapiro, Larkin and I think this year's Cannon is better than Kasak as well. I also think Cardenas would match up well against Kasak and likely win as evidenced by a very close loss to Duke. Based on Flo's top 8, I can't slot Seally in this group and as noted above, I'd put Kasak somewhere in the 7 slot behind Duke, Shapiro, Cannon, Taylor, Larkin and Cardenas which again is not putting Seally and Kasak and Duke as 1,2 and 3. What is this non-sense for PSU and the backups, they are not all champs and best in the country. What place did Kasak take last year? What place did he take the year before that? He is good no doubt, but 157 is stacked, I don't think PSU has the top 1,2 and 3 157's in the weight class. Duke is the real deal and might win it all, but if Kasak was also in the tournament, I'd put him behind Duke, Cannon, Shapiro and likely behind Larkin but we need to see more of Larkin.

Let's not get carried away. Watters had no business being number one and Zerban is coming back from injury and didn't look himself. Larkin is good but he's not there right now.

The norm is to take 10+2 alternates to cover missed weights, skin checks and injuries.

Bouzakis will stay at 125 through 2028 trials. Davino will stay at 133 and drop to 57kg for the trials as well. Both have senior level aspirations and neither can fill out to 65 kg.

I doubt we see Forest in action this year. This is a move to train and get better against college guys since he has outgrown his options in PA.

2028 is not too far away, Bouzakis is likely 125 from here on out. if he struggled then, yes he would likely bump up and or leave to start somewhere at 133. the fact that he is dominating and showing good pop 2 hours off the scale tells me he is staying put and aiming for that natty title!
