  1. Actually, if they all do as well as the seeds, which they may not, they'll score 131.5 plus bonus pts (~30). If Starocci wins it instead of placing 9-12 add 18 more pts for 149.5 plus bonus pts. I think Davis may fall short on his seed, but most others will be close. They don't have much room to do better than seeds when they're seeded so high. And to make adjustments for scoring differences, they'd need 171.5 to tie IOWA.
  2. Vito has shocked most people when he destroyed Fix and RBY. And he's better in FS. Both Vito and Mago have cruised to the finals w/ no close matches. It will be an epic battle.
  3. I prefer the quote. Then you don't need to hit another link. It's right there. But I do appreciate both quotes and links here.
  4. Getting back to Feldman, I think he'll "do alright." I'm not predicting 3 NCAA titles, but I think he'll get on the podium multiple times and maybe compete for a title a time or 2.
  5. Snyder won 3 NCAAs at 285, so "he seemed to do alright." Now, Snyder could not compete on the Senior level at that 125kg. And I'm not comparing Feldman to Snyder, just saying that there are numerous examples of NCAA HWTs who are "not true HWTs." And in my post above I could have mentioned guys like Lou Banach rather than Wojo. Wojo weighed around 245, a decent sized HWT. But I saw him wrestle Chris Taylor and he looked tiny by comparison.
  6. Nor was Kyle Snyder. He seemed to do alright. I guess if by "true" you mean not big, there are several very good "not true" HWTs - Rowlands and Wojo for example.
  7. Kyle Snyder 1 OLY gold 3 World golds 1 OLY silver 2 World silvers 1 World bronze Assuming Mt Rushmore has 4 carvings (it does), Snyder is an easy pick for #4.
  8. IMO Mt Rushmore looks like JB, Smith, Bruce & Snyder. Obviously, this could change as time goes on. But Dake and Taylor are both getting long in the tooth (32) to catch the top four. I'm not saying it can't happen, and I hope it does b/c that's good news for USA wrestling. And Snyder is still writing his resume. He has Sad in his way, but I don't discount his ability to beat him, altho he is the underdog. Cox is young enough (28) to make a run but he has Snyder and Sad in his way at 97kg. And he moved up to 97 for a reason. 92 was too much of a cut for him. Maybe a loss to Snyder this year will force him back to 92 where he'll continue to rack up medals. And Steveson hasn't accomplished enough to be in the conversation. Hopefully, he will. And OLY vs World medals are overvalued IMO. As stated before, Smith and Bruce competed in the 10 wt class era. Is a wrestler's ability to be a world champ only significant every 4 years? I would argue "no." And is a 20 lb gap (w/ 6 wts) way too much to determine the best wreslters in the world? I would argue "yes."
  9. I hate being a naysayer, but I can't imagine him competing at the Olympic or World level anymore. His greatest strength in NCAA wrestling has always been his top game, not his neutral game. I know he is a 4X World champ (2 Cadets and 2 JRs) but his last title was 6 years ago. I truly hope he can make it thru the NCAA season and win his 4th title. That would be a tremendous accomplishment if he can pull it off. A healthy Lee is a shoe-in for 4 NCAA titles and a smart money bet for US rep and OLY or World champ or medalist. We haven't seen that version of Spencer in a while. At this point I can't see him getting past Gilman or even others as the US rep.
  10. And the most important statistic on Voinovich, he's the grandson of former Ohio Governor George Voinovich.
  11. From Wrestlestat: #85 Hallmark, Chaz (0 - 4) (Compare) #70 Cal Baptist 11/12 Iowa State - Cal Baptist Dual 149 W MD 11 - 2 #101 Bianchi, Joseph (3 - 2) (Compare) #65 Little Rock 11/05 Iowa State - Little Rock Dual 149 W DEC 3 - 2 #5 Gomez, Austin (3 - 1) (Compare) #15 Wisconsin 11/05 Iowa State - Wisconsin Dual 149 W DEC 9 - 4 I think you need to have an account on wrestlestat now to see full results, but it is a free account.
  12. Per the rules linked on an earlier post, the WC (Wrestler A) gets 40,000 and another 10,000 for Continental championships for a total of 50,000. Wrestler B hypothetically gets 32,000 for 2nd at WC and another 10,000 for Continental (different continent) for a total of 42,000. One ranking series win at 8,000 ties him for #1 and a second ranking series win puts him ahead. Last year there were 4 ranking series tourneys. So, there is an incentive to do the ranking series tourneys if you care about seeds. Granted, some wrestlers like Sad don't care about seeds. There's a lot of scenarios like this. Even a guy with a 9th place in the WC can eclipse 50,000.
