  1. From my research, SVN has only been bonused once in his college career. Lovett beat him 10-2 in 2025.
  2. Minto was given a point.
  3. Zain Retherford went his last three seasons undefeated after wrestling his true freshman season. Maybe he would have been an undefeated 4-time champ if he had redshirted his freshman year? Inquiring minds unfortunately will never know.
  4. I don't think Spencer's personality would be a good fit for a head coach. Spencer has spent his entire college and international career under TnT. His mindset toward wrestling and coaching has been firmly molded by them. If Iowa wants to break free from the TnT coaching philosophy I don't think Spencer is the answer. Also, Spencer's approach to wrestling has been hyper-focused, intense and individualistic. I just don't think Spencer's wrestling approach and personality traits match well with what Iowa needs in a new HC.
  5. Accidental msg above. I see what you are doing ionel. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!
  6. It turns out Oklahoma State had ten shutouts that season. The score for the Central Oklahoma dual is wrong. It was actually 41-0, not 41-3. This changes the 41% shutout rate to 45%.
  7. I posted this over on the Penn state forum: Also, from what I can find, Oklahoma State holds the record for most dual meet shutouts in a season with nine when they went 22-0 in the 1982-1983 season, which is a 41% shutout rate. Penn State currently sits at five shoutouts with a realistic chance to add three more this season against Indiana, Maryland and Princeton. If Penn State gets shutouts in seven or eight of their 15 duals this season that would best Oklahoma State's season. Also, given the dominance of Penn State's non-shutout dual victories this season, there is a very good chance Penn State ends this season as having the most dominant dual meet season of any D1 wrestling program ever. Here is a breakdown of Oklahoma State's '82-'83 dual meet season: 41-3 over Central Oklahoma 27-9 over Nebraska 34-6 over Cal Poly 30-8 over Cal State Bakersfield 32-6 over Arizona State 22-14 over Oklahoma 27-23 over Iowa 44-0 over Illinois 46-0 over Northern Illinois 51-0 over Drake 41-0 over Kentucky 46-0 over New Mexico 38-4 over Michigan State 48-0 over BYU 46 to -1 over Indiana state 34-9 over BYU 38-0 over Utah State 43-3 over Wisconsin 23-14 over Iowa State 18-14 over LSU 47-0 over Missouri 21-17 over Oklahoma
  8. The TV shot of Kennedy almost looked like he had watery eyes. I would imagine he was really bummed at not wrestling. It probably was extra hard on him being a big home dual against Penn State, especially since this is his last season.
  9. The top four at 184 are so close that you could pull any of their names out of a hat to be the National champion and it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
  10. Considering he has a loss at 149 this year, and a tech at that, I am doubtful he gets moved up to #1. On Baschamania the other day Willie said he would not put Larkin #1 at 157 yet.
  11. Per Flo he went 5-0 w/all pins and techs at the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals & Boys National Recruiting Showcase on October 24.
  12. Even though it was two years ago, Blaze beat Forrest in folkstyle at the 2023 Clarion Open. Both are absolute hammers. Their contrasting styles make any future matches amongst each other "must see" wrestling. Video
  13. OK, I really need to get to bed, but I found that the rules do define what a "match" is: Art. 7. Match Parameters. A match begins with the start of the first period and ends with the conclusion of wrestling. The conclusion of wrestling occurs when time expires at the end of the third period, when overtime ends, or when a fall, technical fall, disqualification or injury default occurs. Art. 9. Postmatch Period. The time from the conclusion of an individual match, as defined in the match parameters, until the wrestler leaves the mat. So, besides needing to get to bed, I take back my previous post and agree the punch needs to occur before the match ends : )
  14. Looking through the rules, in the above scenario I think the punch could still be penalized and added to the match score as long as it occurred "during the match", which I would think would apply to actions committed before the wrestlers shook hands and exited the mat. I guess the real question is how is "during the match" defined? That might be a judgment call, as I didn't find it defined in the rules. Art. 4. Wrestler — During a Match. An unsportsmanlike violation during the match shall be an award to the opponent of one match point for the first violation and disqualification from the match for the second violation.
  15. Good point. Immediately after my first response I realized the crying out in pain and the punch needed to be almost simultaneous in order to occur before the referee stopped the match, but unfortunately this site doesn't have an edit function, so I didn't bother.
  16. No. Section 15. Overtime Art. 1. Timing and Scoring. The sudden-victory period and tiebreaker periods shall be regarded as extensions of the regulation match. With the exception of riding time, all points, penalties, cautions, warnings, timeouts and injury time accumulated during regulation shall carry over to overtime. Riding time accrued during regulation does not carry over into overtime. Riding time, however, is recorded during all parts of overtime.
  17. Yes! Wrestler A gets a TD immediately to Wrestler B's back (3 point lead). Wrestler A holds Wrestler B on his back in nearfall criteria for over a minute, thus securing the four point NF criteria (7 point lead). Wrestler B screams out in pain, causing the referee to stop the match. Wrestler A is awarded one point per Article 11 in the NCAA Wrestling Rules Book, making it an 8 point lead. Wrestler B then immediately punches wrestler A and wrestler A is awarded a penalty point per Article 12, making it a 9 point lead. Wrestler A is awarded the riding time point after the match is stopped. Wrestler A thus secures a Major decision, outscoring his opponent by 10 points! Art. 11. Injury — After Four-Point Near Fall Criterion Met. When a criterion for a four-point near fall are met, and a match is stopped for an injury, the defensive wrestler indicates an injury or has excessive bleeding, an additional point shall be awarded to the offensive wrestler. Art. 12. Assessing Penalty Points in Near fall Situations. Points for unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, technical violations or illegal holds committed by the defensive wrestler during near fall situations shall be added to points earned by the offensive wrestler. In addition, wrestling shall continue during a violation(s) by the defensive wrestler if the referee determines no risk of injury exists. Art. 13. Riding Time Point. The offensive wrestler who has control in an advantage position shall accumulate riding time. A timekeeper records each wrestler’s accumulated riding time throughout the match. If one of the competitors has one minute or more of net riding time advantage, the wrestler is awarded one point. An earned riding time point may be awarded no sooner than at the end of the third period and/or at the end of any sudden victory or any round of tiebreakers. The riding time point may be used to win or continue the match. The riding time point is earned simultaneously with any other points when determining whether a technical fall occurred.
  18. The mechanism of injury reminded me of when Suriano got injured against Piccininni his freshman year at Penn State.
  19. The below-listed actions seem to be the ones that get U.S. wrestlers in trouble with the officials. I also think all of these actions stem from how folk style is officiated, rewarding these types of actions instead of how UWW rules reward control of center and maintaining contact with your opponent: Attacking without any direct contact with the opponent Regaining initial position right after beginning an attack Fake attacks (Simulation)
  20. Per the United World Wrestling International Wrestling Rules: If after 2:00 minutes into the first period neither wrestler has scored any point (score 0-0), the referees must mandatory designate one of the wrestlers as inactive (the same procedure described above is administered). c. When there is less than 30 seconds remaining in either period, if all three of the refereeing body agree a wrestler is evading and/or blocking his opponent, then his/her opponent is awarded one point and caution (i.e fleeing the hold). This situation can be challenged. d. e. If a wrestler initiates his action some seconds before minute 2:00 with a 0:0 score, the referee will not interrupt the bout and will allow the wrestler to finish the action. If the action ends with points, the bout will continue without any interruption. If the action doesn’t end with points, the referee will stop the bout and will apply the activity time. For U15, U17 and Veterans age categories, no verbal warning will be given. The passivity procedure starts directly with activity time.
  21. And per the United World Wrestling International Wrestling Rules it is officially referred to as "Activity Time" or "30 second activity period." Interestingly, the word "clock" is used nowhere in the rules, but I still refer to the action as "being put on the Activity clock."
  22. Considering team USA only scored four team points between 57,70 and 125kg., their second place finish was quite impressive, especially having three wrestlers 21 or under competing.
  23. And considering we only received four team points combined between 57, 70 and 125kg., that was a great finish for the U.S.
