Oldest Starting Lineup in 2024-2025
Voice of the Quakers replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
After placing at his first NCAA tourneys, he failed to place in 2022-23. I know he is ranked high, but I also think he may have hit his ceiling. -
Oldest Starting Lineup in 2024-2025
Voice of the Quakers replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
All this experience and Intermat has Illinois ranked 19th in their tournament rankings. There is a downside to having too much experience on a team. Who thinks any of these wrestlers improves on past performance? Pucino? Ruth? And what does next season look like? Hello, transfer portal. -
Campbell Wrestling is about to cut their program
Voice of the Quakers replied to TNwrestling's topic in College Wrestling
Thanks to Jason Bryant for including a link to this story in his newsletter this morning. The school's statement may indicate Campbell has bigger problems. Given Campbell's size, the school's finances should be healthier than this. Maybe not. In a statement, the school said it evaluated operation expenses and made “strategic decisions” to ensure the future of the school, which is located in Buies Creek. “We’ve asked for the cooperation of various departments and units, including Campbell Athletics, who are helping us in this goal of institutional strength,” the university said in a statement. The school said the among the cost-cutting measures are athletic scholarships across multiple sports. The school did not elaborate on which of its 21 athletic teams would face cuts. https://www.wralsportsfan.com/budget-cuts-coming-for-campbell-athletics-school-says/21675210/?utm_source=Wrestling+News&utm_campaign=c7bbfabb03-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2022_09_28_09_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_44607e8210-c7bbfabb03-245377111&mc_cid=c7bbfabb03&mc_eid=e17780a615 -
Short of a fundamental transformation in the personality of Ford Focus, I struggle to see how this helps CSUB moving forward no matter how well AJ does. Is there anyone in the wrestling community who doesn't look at this move cynically? Is there one wrestler, parent or high school coach who is giving CSUB a 2nd look because AJ is on campus? I would guess there are more people scratching CSUB off their list than adding it to their list. I wish CSUB nothing but the best. I saw Mark Cody turn American U. into a program that punched well above its weight at NCAAs by targeting a couple key prospects with high integrity with full scholarships to help attract other quality individuals to the program. Assuming CSUB has at least some scholarship money to work with, I would encourage them to do the same. CA is a wrestling gold mine - keeping just a few top prospects home could do wonders at CSUB.

PK vs Starocci 184 all star main event set
Voice of the Quakers replied to Truzzcat's topic in College Wrestling
Hard to see Keck scoring on Star, assuming both are fit enough for the match this early in the season. Wonder if a negative result here might encourage Keck to move up to 197. -
Who said TMS is retiring from wrestling?
Voice of the Quakers replied to bnwtwg's topic in International Wrestling
Fun match. Not every entertainer has to look the same. Best of luck to the two of them in their development. Wondering if one of Gable's issues was an unwillingness to "lose". TMS seems to be in on the game. -
To be overly simplistic about this, the older guys had more matches because they wrestled more competitions. Much more international travel - if you went overseas, you wrestled several tournaments and/or duals - and many more tours of international/Russian teams here. (I do miss those dual meet tours - those were a lot of fun to watch.) Philosophically, all sports/athletes seem to be moving to "load management". It's debatable whether reduced competition has made any impact on overall performance, health or career longevity. Snyderman (200+ wins at 28 years old) seems to be the only American embracing the old school tour mentality. I love him for it, but I do wonder if it hurt him in the last quad.

Preseason Conference Rankings
Voice of the Quakers replied to bracketbuster's topic in College Wrestling
Thanks for compiling this info. Much appreciated. My only quibble as a Penn fan is that Cross Wasilewski will place no worse than 2nd in the Ivy at 149. But, he's a (gray shirt) freshman so I understand the lack of data in the system. (Same with McGowan for Princeton at 125.) Thanks again. -
Doctors are still much better at fixing elbows and knees than ball and socket joints, and you would think a wrestling nation as strong as Iran would produce a challenger to prevent Yazdani from wrestling in his 4th Olympiad under the best of circumstances. Still, best of luck to Yazdani in his recuperation - he's been a fun watch.

Day number # of CSUB not kicking out Aj Ferrari

Looks like AJ may have gone zero days without an incident after all… -
Donny Pritzlaff new Columbia HC

Yes, the sky is falling at the Big R. My brother wrestled at Rutgers from 1988-91. He would've killed for this type of chaos. Successful teams lose coaches all the time for new/better gigs, better pay, more responsibility, etc., particularly at the end of an Olympic quad. Congrats, Rutgers fan base - you've made it. Enjoy the irrationality that comes with it. -
I just want to congratulate CSUB for this release regarding Ferrari's transfer. It is absolute perfection. It neither acknowledges Ferrari's past issues or admits that the college is selling its soul for a return to wrestling relevance. The photo of AJ is the chef's kiss. Do you think AJ dropped this pose on the first shot or that the photographer ever tried to say, "Hey, how about a simple head shot just for the records?" https://gorunners.com/news/2024/9/4/wrestling-smith-adds-ncaa-champion-aj-ferrari-to-bakersfield-roster.aspx?utm_source=Wrestling+News&utm_campaign=1b69b6afb1-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2022_09_28_09_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_44607e8210-1b69b6afb1-245377111&mc_cid=1b69b6afb1&mc_eid=e17780a615

I think AJ's chances of making it to the 2nd semester are 50/50. Which would be a shame, because I would love to see Starocci hammer him at NCAAs.

My plan is to prepay a ridiculous amount of money on tickets, accommodations, etc...and then watch my son qualify for a killer swim meet that same weekend that forces me to cancel everything.

"Happy" to lay the blame at Bloomsburg's feet if what you say is true. At some point, the adults at Bloomsburg had to figure out that Kemmerer wouldn't accept the job with the terms they offered. No reason this had to drag out so long. No one's looking good with today's announcement.
-
Bloomsburg "fired" their former coach on or around May 8th. A deal to bring back Stutzman, or any coach, couldn't be done before today? Stutzman didn't know he would be offered the Bloomsburg job when he took the Davidson gig this week? (Not absolving Stutzman of blame here.) Bloomsburg needed Davidson to hire Stutzman this week to know it really wanted him back like some sort of 1980s romcom? Again, where are the adults in this process?

Davidson University site already retconned. Nothing to see here, folks... https://davidsonwildcats.com/news/2024/8/13/clothier-joins-wrestling-staff

So, how exactly does Stutzman to Davidson and back to Bloomsburg in the same week happen in a world where adults are running athletic departments?

David Taylor kicks started Jordan Williams off the team!
Voice of the Quakers replied to poke1's topic in College Wrestling
DT setting a tone and letting the guys know there's a new boss in town. Of course, if Williams were a national championship contender there would probably be third and fourth chances. Life isn't fair. -

Olympic Wrestling ... Day 6

No RTCs would mean no RTC money keeping best wrestlers competing after college. The lack of top Americans in the UFC over the last decade is due directly to the fact the RTCs oay better than fighting. And, no, the money wouldn’t flow to these athletes in the same way if they were all in Colorado Springs. The competition among the schools has been a good thing for the RTC athletes -

Yup, Helen was probably 2nd best at this weight.
