These are much higher than the tariffs on the u.s. They're based on trade deficits rather than what we're actually being charged.

That's a lie. They pay it up front but then charge more on the back end so it's a wash. None of them are going to accept a loss. They only sell for profit. The net result is simply that the consumers, mostly poorer people, pay a tax, and as a result fewer imports are actually purchased. We produce a little more domestically to offset that but also export less because other countries kick us back w their own tariffs. We isolate ourselves while rest of the world strengthen their trade relationships.

What I find VERY interesting is that Trump is claiming that 50 countries are now pursuing trade talks. He's got such a bad record with dishonesty that his claims aren't making any difference today whatsoever w the traders. Zero credibility. Zero respect. Keep golfing.

Here's reality. To get our deficit to be more reasonable, the middle class AND rich both probably need to pay moree, AND we need to cut spending. Not just the piddly stuff they're doing now, like laying off workers and cutting programs that are already super tiny. Gotta cut military spending and social security. An easy target there is to cut ss benefits to the wealthy. Ss is supposed to be a safety net only. However, congress is planning on doing the opposite and actually INCREASING both the deficit and debt.

If he doesn't drop his tariffs then other countries won't either. His bullying won't work, especially on countries holding our debt and that allow dollar, for time being, to be the world's reserve currency. Countries are hitting us back. Hopefully even harder. I want maximum impact on this jerk.

Oh yah? Well first, well see if he goes down to 0% for them. 2nd, he hasn't indicated that he would drop tariffs based solely on other countries dropping theirs. Zero infication that that was his goal. 3rd, the tariffs aren't based upon what we're being charged but rather on trade deficits. If zero tariffs are the goal, he's doing a horrible job of progressing toward that.
